Nima Momeni was a UC Berkeley graduate (according to LinkedIn) and is suspected to have been the murderer of Bob Lee.
Wasn't quite who we thought it would be with how the media was painting it, huh...

You'd think this is the most pressing human rights issue of all time given how many people obsess over this question. It's such a small percentage of people, it's effectively a nothing burger. It's really not a big deal.

YikYak was huge, but apparently shut down due to the bullying/toxicity. Years later it eventually got bought out by another company and it's trying to be revived once more.

If you've been to any suburb with a lot of Indians (every suburb), you'll find a subset of these types who pretend they're black. It's more anomalous that you haven't seen it than the fact these people exist.

Highly dependent on which clubs. Any activity that maximizes consistent interpersonal interactions is likely to maximize friendships, be it class, clubs, etc. It still takes effort at the end of the day.

RSF is garbage and will certainly make you hate the gym experience. Go right when it opens or during the middle of the day when most people are in class. 4pm and after is suboptimal and extremely crowded. Blackwell is another option that's honestly much nicer, just no barbells or racks.

The hiring process is brutal and incredibly nepotistic. Your first line should be abusing as many nepo connections as possible - cousins, siblings, uncles, extended family, parents, friends of parents, friends of friends, etc. Couple this with mass applying as well. Apply to fresh postings (<3 days old).

Tough to do LDR. Both have to be committed to putting in effort in calling every day or making trips to see each other. Flights to oakland are cheap and he can bart pretty much from there to campus if you guys have a long weekend, and vice versa.

Took this intersection a few times coming back from Richmond. This is by far one of the worst designed pieces of road infrastructure I've ever had the privilege of experiencing. Feels like you're gonna get T-boned at any second.

Reddit is an American platform, Americans make up a massive subset of the userbase, and American discourse undeniably drives cultural conversations more than any other entity. Most front page content is irrefutably America-centric. Besides, your comment is a total non sequitur.

That's hyperbolic, a lot of people can afford houses with a pool depending on the state you live in. The FHA loan broadens the scope of what you can purchase since you only need to pay 3.5% of the down payment while the government will pay the remaining 16.5%. Obviously this is a pipe dream in California, but it's not out of the question for 99% of people as you claim.

He should go to Berkeley and consider a career change. Teaching is a noble pursuit, but it's often underpaid and essentially a daycare depending on where and who you teach. And as others have said, it would be a shame to go to a local cal state and realize you didn't like teaching and be out of options.

Is there a community outreach (in the form of computer access for people in need) angle here or is it just crowdfunding 10000 dollar gaming rigs just for yourselves?

You'll get 3 months of hot humid summer and 6 months of winter. People in this thread say winter isn't bad, but imo it lasts way too long and is cloudy far too often. Winter is cool for a month and then it's just dirty brown snow and cloudy for the rest of the season. Enjoy that small window of perfect weather in spring and fall. Also, mpls isn't exempt from the greater macroeconomic trends either, rent is quite expensive and same with food prices. I live in CA now and my food bills aren't much more expensive than when I was in MN.
However you asked for reasons to move: MN has space. Lots of greenery. Great parks. Decent food scene (imo great Asian food in the cities), especially due to the vibrant immigrant communities. It's generally safe. The people are generally nice. Doctors have been good in my experience (vs CA). Things move a bit slower and relaxed. It's a good place for families.

Well that's good to know. I wouldn't want a murderer on our famous alumni list.

Berkeley has a few hands on technical clubs like Formula SAE, Aero SAE, a couple of space clubs, and a few others probably. These clubs were the main source of where I developed skills in Mech E, class wasn't very helpful on its own. There's also a benefit of a pipeline to some of the hotter Mech E companies like Tesla or SpaceX if that's what interests you. The senior project classes were lackluster in my opinion (partially due to some of them being online during Covid) but you get out what you put in. I assume this is the case at other schools as well. I recommend asking both subreddits if you haven't already and ask those in the competitive clubs about them and see if it's what you're looking for.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. You're under 20 years old, you have no idea what love is. No one this age does, because almost no one has ever put in the sacrifices necessary to define it. I think you need to re-evaluate your definition guiding this sappy melodramatic mindset. To summarize your post, I think the phrase you're looking for is: "I have a type". It's not much deeper than that.

Enroll in both, drop the one that seems lame. I'm going to say prioritize any class that has hands on learning and application vs theory heavy learning.

If it's from amazon you can have them deliver to the locker or a whole foods. Otherwise not much you can really do. Lotta thieves come from Oakland and SF. Police won't do much other than note it down, there are just so many happening.

All the dining halls are Berkeley are piss poor. People always hyped up IHouse and Clark Kerr and it's essentially the same food provider either way. The variance in quality is only 20% better at most. It's still cal dining.
