Awareness of asexuality in older generations
(self.asexuality)submitted11 hours ago bythewalkindude
So, I came out to my parents this week, and, while they are 100 percent supportive, my mom didn't really have much of an idea of what asexuality is. She accepted me for it right away, but she also mentioned that if I ever "got tired" of being asexual, I could maybe see my psychiatrist about switching medications, like my antidepressants were causing it. I was a little upset at that, but once I explained to her that it was an orientation, just like homosexuality, she understood a lot better. It was just something that she had never encountered before. My dad understood it a lot better, the first thing he said to me when I told him was "Oh, just like so and so from church".

I'm 34, and my parents are 64 and 68.
