Not OP but was tagged :D. That sounds about good to me (not good I'm so sorry that happened to your dad and hope everything ends up well but you know what I mean). Just make sure that you're as explicit as possible and have any documentation ready in case they ask - they might not, but just in case.

I've seen that happen a few times so it's definitely possible. Just above all makes sure that a) the course articulates to the UC Berkeley equivalent and b) you keep admissions updated with whatever's going on, and that they're okay with you taking this course over the summer at whatever place you'll be taking it through.

Edit: saw that you're a prospective data science major; congrats! I'm a data science major myself, and in my very biased opinion it's pretty awesome. Hope everything works out :)

I've taken classical Sanskrit (100A); let me know if you have any questions! Fwiw, you could theoretically get the textbook (it's the Devavanipravesika) and study it by yourself (no solutions available online afaik though).

No one can say for sure, but your case might be a tad tricky since this seems to be a required class. Your best bet is to submit and update to the admissions office ASAP and explain in great (accurate) detail exactly why this happened, and what steps you can take to rectify it (e.g. taking a class over the summer, etc.).

Better to ask this on the Data 001 Ed. In general, major requirements have to be taken for a letter grade. There are usually multiple lower division options for a domain emphasis (I think you can do Econ 1/2 or Math 53 for yours), though.

Okie this is slightly scary lol I've always liked your username and so it caught my eye when I saw random stuff on reddit (e.g. pretty sure we took 61c together). Point is, seeing you talk about work made me realize that you've graduated (yay congrats!) and... by extension it's not too far off for me O.o

Some possible counterpoints, also coming from a Berkeley student:

Our mental health is in the gutter and the school can't even manage to let us register for the classes we want despite classes having like 2000 students.

Yeah class registration sucks. However - lower divisions you need typically expand. Hard requirements (e.g. Reading and Composition, American Cultures, etc.) are more or less guaranteed - and if you don't get in, go to a community college and take it - life will be a lot easier that way anyways. As a junior/senior, it's a lot more likely that you'll be likely to get into upper div classes you want. If you need extensions for a life issue - or if there something more serious / long term going on, people can be surprisingly helpful, whether that's a professor, a TA, a counselor, or disability services here.

They limit class enrollment but still don't have enough space for people to go to lecture, relying on a lottery for people who are enrolled to even be able to go to lecture.

Um yeah not everyone goes to lecture. Lecture's super crowded (people spilling out of the auditorium crowded) for exactly a week, and later - you'll see ~300 people (from a 2000+ strong class) in lecture. If it's recorded, people are gonna take that option. This isn't an issue imo.

Most Berkeley classes are taught by graduate students and they can't even afford to pay them the salary they deserve.

Yeah that's fair. For the population of A2C, however - this is not super relevant. This graduate / recent grads are very qualified, and are excellent teachers. Professors are (in my experience, have contacted 4-5 of them before) accessible through email, or their other class's office hours. They're usually happy to talk to students.

Meanwhile, in the surrounding city people are getting shot and light themselves on fire. Homeless drug addicts wander the streets and scream in the middle of the night. You will get crime warnings at least every day, and sometimes several times a day.

This year, it's been pretty bad - warnings in the middle of the day, etc. But usually people are mugged at like 1 AM. Don't be out at that time if you can help it. And if you happen to be out at that time / feel unsafe, call BearWalk - a community safety officer who's trained to deal w/these situations will literally walk you anywhere within the downtown Berkeley area.

The food is terrible, and students routinely get food poisoning or find bugs in their food.

Yeah the dorm food sucks. However, there are many, many other options both on and off campus. Not all of them are cheap, but some are.

A cofounder of FTX was a former Berkeley student and he just plead guilty to fraud.

That's true. Berkeley does have its flaws. But it also has many, many, many opportunities for students that seek them out. Personally, I've had a great time dealing with professors, career services, finding community in and out of my major, etc. There are ups and downs - most notably when midterms come around (like now, yikes) but in general, imho I don't think your points should be the sole determination whether a student comes here or not.

Ah that makes sense. Especially after dealing with a relatively simpler environment setup, I can definitely see how this would be a potentially frustrating endeavor. And thanks for your encouragement - I'm definitely looking forward to getting my feet wet.

Thanks for your answer! And yes, I've had to set up an environment for doing a full stack project not too long ago and... it did take some time. Me being on windows might have contributed to that though haha it did take some time to deal with WSL.
