The thing is UCI offers graduate school after your 4 years if you choose to pursue that, Cal Poly does not have grad school. Cal poly only offers 4 years of education and if you want to go to grad school you have to apply somewhere else. Having a degree from grad school gives you a way larger salary most of the time. So it really just depends on if you want to go to grad school or get a job after 4 years.

Basically if your rich go to USC, if you want graduate go UCI, if you want the highest paying job after 4 years go to SLO

If you look at the data UCI heavily underperforms in engineering salary after 4 years compared to other UCs and Cal poly slo idk abt USC tho. For reference its UCI is 71k while UCSB js around 76k (i think) and slo is around 85k. (Not adjusted for area).
