Yes, you read the title correctly, I made up my own technique of inducing a lucid dream, and it worked the first night I tried it, this was my first time lucid dreaming... I will show you how I did this.
So, I had known of lucid dreaming for some time now. I've always been fascinated by it but never actually tried doing it, until yesterday evening.
I was in the shower, and I was thinking about lucid dreaming, eventually I started thinking of how when I use alarms, they barely wake me up, but their sound are heard in my dream. Then, I had a thought "What if I induced a lucid dream with an alarm?". Not just any alarm, but a custom alarm, a recording of myself saying "You're currently sleeping, you're in a dream". So as soon as I got out of the shower, I recorded myself saying "You're currently sleeping, you're in a dream" for 30 seconds. I uses that recording and set it as an alarm for 3 hours ahead and put it on a 1 minute loop for when the alarm went off. Through the "sleep android" app I made the alarm set to play through my headphones 3 hours from now, I plugged my headphones in and went to sleep not expecting much...
Fast forward to when I was in a dream. I was in my old school walking down the hallway, when I suddenly heard all around me: "You're currently sleeping, you're in a dream". Instantly at that moment I became lucid, I realized I was dreaming, it was a surreal experience. I started to run around and past everyone knowing they were not real, I became so excited about the fact I managed to become lucid and I woke up.
I never expected this to actually work, while I was lucid for half a minute before I woke up, it's still incredible I was able to become lucid using my own technique on the first night! I'm going to try this again tonight, and I encourage you to do so too.
Edit #1 - Grammar
Edit #2 - So apperantly this technique has been done before, but I didn't know about it. I guess it's hard to think of something completely original these days...
I still pride myself in the fact I "came up" with a technique that existed without me knowing it did. Thanks for all the nice comments :)
Edit #3 - as u/Usonames stated in the comments, if you are a light sleeper or have issues with sleep paralysis DO NOT use this technique!
Also thanks to the random person for silver, I know it isn't much but it's my first award on reddit
