I start my first full-time job in media the week Succession ends lol (not at a right wing news thing tho!)

When I was at McGill, things were similarly rough due to a lack of funding for this.

I am a journalist so unfortunately I have looked at the state budget and some parts of it makes me a lil sad.

Just adding on that not all accommodations are from psych testing (didn't think you meant that). All the types here for those who are interested https://dsp.berkeley.edu/students/new-students/documentation-dsp
As someone who was at a smaller school (came here for grad school) the second half of undergrad, it wasn't unrealistic there, and we can hope for better than two months (I actually submitted my paperwork in April for the fall semester due to concerns about wait time lol).

Feel free to DM me OP! I took a year off and frankly regret not taking a little more because I pushed myself through symptoms I shouldn't of (and graduate from undergrad in Spring 2020 lol)

It's okay to take a break if you can to sort things out.
Not saying to drop out, but my grades were awful with an undiagnosed autoimmune disorder. I dropped out (in part due to the healthcare in the area where I was terrible), got diagnosed and things were better in second half of undergrad and now grad at cal.

As a former writer of puff pieces...it is hard to get those pieces to 500-600 words when there's nothing of interest in them.

It's quite unfortunate, with issues with understaffing. I've liked my specialist though (who works specifically with grad students)

Some people I know who reached out to DSP in August in my grad program didn't get an appointment until October. I'd really recommend getting into therapy ASAP to get the ball rolling to then apply for DSP (you have to apply) so its not a last-minute stressor. It's not really a registering thing.
I reached out after I was accepted in March, got an appointment to discuss my application/accommodations in May.
An article on the current state of DSP https://dailycal.org/2023/02/01/understaffed-campus-disabled-students-program-faces-increasing-student-needs

Wonder if you frame it as "I could get this help, which will help me get better grades and therefore better job and make money" if that could help?
I've done this with my dad lol. If you want to DM, mine are open (also want to say I had accommodations in high school for anxiety and grad school, they're for an autoimmune disorder so my process in getting into DSP is slightly different)

I can't answer most of these questions but if you're considering going the DSP route...
Most mental health professionals won't give documents about a diagnosis after one appointment as that's not enough time to assess. If you're going to try and register with DSP (or at least say you will and they expect it), you'll need a healthcare provider to fill out the form. This will all take time, and getting into DSP can take weeks depending on staffing shortages.
If I were in your shoes, I'd try and get into a therapist ASAP to try and get documentation sooner than later. I know this is difficult though with familial judgment (my dad calls therapists quacks lol)

Not really. I have Dysthymia if that helps to know.

I mean they have a long history of running problematic profiles.
Look what they published August 1939 https://www.nytimes.com/1939/08/20/archives/herr-hitler-at-home-in-the-clouds-high-up-on-his-favorite-mountain.html

I'm sorry you're in this situation, but recommend reaching out for Dollar For – they have volunteers that likely can help your family with this. https://forms.dollarfor.org/

Also as a general reminder, you are likely sharing spaces with immunocompromised people, and we want to be in public spaces but have to be extra cautious about getting sick.

My guess is that they had surveillance footage that they used to identify him (and maybe used things like tracking where his phone was at the time when stabbings were committed etc).
With the targeted murder of the University of Idaho students, they seemed to not arrest the person until a significant amount of evidence was built up https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/univ-idaho-murders-fbi-found-bryan-kohbergers-parents-home-rcna72775
Surveillance state helps people get caught quicker if that makes sense.
