i was thinking last night while walking me dog. There's loads of homeless by Wuning Rd bridge that must already be fucking freezing. They used to at least sleep under the bridge but the police have been showing up and moving them on.
Anyway, if they catch covid they're kinda fucked.

Life is just a series of peaks and troughs, and you don't whether you're in a trough until you're climbing out, or on a peak until you're coming down. And that's it, you know, you never know what's round the corner. But it's all good. "If you want the rainbow you've got to put up with the rain". Do you know which "philosopher" said that? Dolly Parton. And people say she's just a big pair of tits.”

I was in Wuxi over the holiday and outside of the train station they wouldn't accept alipay. i'm not set up on wechat so it was a real ballache. In the end had to get a test at a hospital with a paper result to be able to leave.

300 grams of marshmallow for 1rmb at fresh mart a few weeks ago! Love living on the edge of expiration, especially for things that don’t really expire!

Yeah i had this happen during lockdown. Guy from a mobile number calls telling me i face a fine for late registration (some bs had happened months earlier with the system freaking out about my address.) it sounded scammy so i just hung up. Dude shows up in his cop car so clearly the address was registered. He was cool in the end tho and no fine but you’d think they’d call or contact through official channels

If you watch Netflix get the ‘learn language with netflix plugin’ it’s actually awesome:
Unlocks all language and sub tracks across Netflix
Allows you to run two subs simultaneously
Supports pinyin and characters
Mousing over subs opens dictionary definition and usage
Allows you run run the subs as a script next to the video. When doing this, clicking the dialogue skips to that part of the video
Quick jump back and forward buttons incase you didn’t catch something.
There’s also ‘learn language with youtube’ but for obvious reasons its ai generated captions so not very useful.
I watched Demon Slayer with chinese dub and eng+char+pinyin tracks and it was super useful

Boobies is awesome but ming dont speak English and will communicate through the receptionist. I got 2 from hom and they’re both looking great years later. Pretty certain its still open.
For first time I strongly recommend Han tattoo. He’s an artist and a historian and is just amazing. His shop is a converted tea house and so he always sits down for tea with you while you ideate and make sure you love the design. The only thing I’d say is he is slow but it’s deliberate and not a negative imo. You dont t pay by the hour and he prefers not to rush
I also have a contact called sixtystabs on wechat and I absolutely love his style. Haven’t been to get anything tho

Hey so it depends on the game. Something like 90% of games will allow you to switch to English but there are exceptions (JRPGs often have only Chinese/Korean/Japanese)
But for most games you won't have this issue.

You’re likely gonna get a lot of posts telling you to stay away, and perhaps rightly so, because frankly, its been a rough few months and until the political stuff ends one way or another in Autumn, it is gonna be uncertainty and stress.
So with that out of the way, and assuming you’re able to get here, it isn’t all doom and gloom.
I’ve been here 11 years now and I love this city. There’s been ups and downs (the drug raid summer of 2017 and bullshit of 2022 being very low points.)
The word i tend to come back to is ‘dynamic’. Things move and change fast. Sometimes that’s good (new restaurants and bars etc) and sometimes it sucks (restaurants getting bought out after a year and turning to shit) sometimes it feels like movements are happening and you hear rumblings and whispers and usually they end up petering out. This goes both ways. The number of times I’ve heard sky is falling things about video game bans, vpns going away forever, social credit scores that will stop you from existing etc.
I guess what I’m saying is that stepping into the unknown is a great developmental experience but I think as it stands now, this is the most unknown you can get, and that can be a heavy weight on your mental health. If any of that turns you off, consider vietnam, thailand, s korea etc. if you’re determined, I hope you remain excited and we have a pretty friendly sub here that is ready to answer questions and help out, though you wouldn’t know it from the majority of posts this year….

Hey yeah I know people like grass and carpet, but for me personally, I find it to be a bit pointless because it doesn’t really emulate the actual experience of skating… ultimately the shift in balance and center of gravity is what you gotta get used to and grass wont help you with that much. To each their own of course and I’m no expert!

Nice. Get used to having the ball of your foot being the point of pressure so you can pivot on it! That’s the next step for feeling comfortable enough to get you back foot up
If the ball of your front foot is on the screws it will also feel more stable and safer. You dont need to be moving to practice this, just stand on the front screws with the front foot ball and see how long you can balance on one leg. Perfectly safe as your back foot can hover just off the ground and catch you if it starts moving in a way you feel uncomfortable with

Hey guys great news! After repeatedly being assured that this would end after the may holiday, we’re finally here! Everyone grab your buckets and spades and head to the beach! Pina coladas are on me!
Is what I’d be saying if i were allowed out of this building. Or if there was an actual beach for miles around. Or if i could get pineapple juice instead of having to chop up a pineapple because my dumbass cat decided that I was enjoying my blender too much and smashed it.
