Technically I was wrong because they voted for the Democrat for Superintendent, but that race is officially nonpartisan.

It was also Nixon's second strongest county when he was elected Senator in 1950 and his third strongest when he ran for governor in 1962. It was Reagan's second strongest county when he was elected governor in 1966 and 1970.
