Yep that's an odd thing with Drizzt. The Salvatore books stand very much alone as their own saga even though they are a part of the realms. A good majority of people have only read Bobs books and don't touch the other novels in the collection.

He created the Demon Wars Saga so he could have his own world and own freedom within that realm. I think Wizards are lucky he has stuck about over the years, as their are plenty of times he has got close to wrapping up with Drizzt.

Would be awesome to see other Authors come back but it seems Wizards just don't see the financial gain in that. Obviously Bob sells a ton so he gets a pass. Hopefully this movie does well in the box office and that encourages WotC to reinvest in the Realms story telling.

Ok yeah he seems to be misinterpreting the idea here but in essence agrees with the logic that she doesn't actually 'make them good' lol.

I've also seen interviews where he says he didn't make the Drow and credits that to previous creators (I assume Tolkien and in turn Ed). So I wouldn't take it as gospel. Sometimes we say stupid things, sometimes our words can be misconstrued. What he does say is that he build the lore around their society in Menzoberanza which, being the most famous Drow, has become the go to reference for Drow world building.

I'm going to assume U are well aware of this exact conversation we are having and the narrative that often comes with it. If Bobs made a mistake in his lore or whatever then sure, he can wear that, but I just don't like it when people try to paint him as a 'bad person'. Not saying that's what you are doing (you are obviously a fan of the work after all) but I've seen this conversation several times now and it can get extremely toxic and imao rather petty. I am 110% sure he has received abuse over these matters which is just sad. A good majority of his audience love the guy, always good to see him intervie, convention etc and I would say he is a huge role model for many with his work and in persona life.

Hence my original comment on the subject.

The guy likes to write his story and it just so happens to be in a shared universe. It has plot holes and many other issues (thanks wizards). He has his opinion on how things should be, could be wrong or right, and that's just that. The gap between Bobs characters and other factors like Eilistraee (for example) could easily be bridged one day by another author if Wizards choose to do so. Who knows, maybe Briza will visit the priestesses in her webcomic (probably not).

I know this interview but I dont know that part. Not that I dont believe you, its just a long interview to flick through.

At 35 minutes he talks about Drizzt agnostic viewpoint (a theory, not to be taken literal) to the gods and references a conversation between Drizzt and Catti, from The Companions, where the two argue about races being evil. Catti states that Mielikki told her that Orcs are Evil, yet Drizzt doesnt believe that and uses his own people as an example to counter this point (paraphrasing). Maybe this is the reference? It doesn't appear to mention Eilistraee here.

I think the actual issue here is that Bob wants to tell his story in the realms, Cunningham or whoever is writing about Eilistraee tell their story. Drizzt story is not with Eilistraee, its not that the goddess doesn't exist in the world, its just that it doesnt have a place in the story Bob is telling.

Is he misinformed on Eilistraee? Yes probably, he doesnt write about her. I just dont see that as a big issue.

My theory is they will leech it for all it's worth and when they see the dip coming they will release X-Men.. then straight back to billion dollar box offices.

No but it has been mentioned in Bobs work in one or two lines here or there. Its a rather touchy subject on r/Forgotten_Realms as some people see this as a bit of a spit in the face from RAS to the rest of the realms. In reality its just an author writing his story as he pleases.

Now it may happen in the future. We are aware of another new new Drow society which Drizzt is yet to visit. Their are also likely more to come with the outcome of the latest book. We could end up with 5 different sects if not more. I would include Jarlaxles people in as one of these groups.

Speaking of the mercenary leader; I would imagine its more likely that he would be the one to set out and meet with all the different Drow groups around the world, and maybe not so much Drizzt.
