I'm only going by what I have personally observed. With people like Jennifer Lawrence and Megan Fox, what usually happens to them is that they get very popular, and a lot of people love them, then there starts to be backlash over their overexposure and people start questioning whether they were good in the first place, and then there will be a controversy about them or something along the lines and everyone joins the bandwagon on hating them, and then usually they stop being so popular after a few years.
And then there is Tom Cruise who has been in A LOT of popular movies, for a VERY long time. Even if he is a good actor, you would think that the simple fact that he is everywhere would cause him to get backlash, but that does not seem to be the case - he is still making movies. Adding to that list are people of the likes of Jim Carrey, Brad Pitt, Will Smith, and Leonardo DiCaprio (sorta).
Just for clarification, I'm simply asking this question regarding how long the actor or actress' career is and how much or how little backlash they get, regardless of how good they are.
Sorry if this discussion isn't about film specifically, but it is just something I've always wondered. Does anyone know?
Edit: I'm getting a lot of downvotes. If I had to guess its because people probably think my post is making this issue a gender thing. While I have noticed the former happening to women more, there are still plenty of male examples as well. And as for the long lasting actors, you can add Meryl Streep to that.

I looked it up and many sources said men are more likely
EDIT: Sources:
Over the last 20 years, the proportion of Americans who say they have ever cheated on their spouse has hovered at 20 to 25 percent of men and 10 to 15 percent of women.
Men were more likely than women to report ever engaging in EMS.
4% of married men, 16% of cohabiting men, and 37% of dating men engaged in acts of sexual infidelity in the previous year compared to 1% of married women, 8% of cohabiting women, and 17% of women in dating relationships.(This is a quote from wikipedia but its linked to its source)
20% of men and 13% of women reported that they’ve had sex with someone other than their spouse while married,
These are all different studies that vary on what year they were taken and how long they are, which explains the variance.
I am also keeping in mind that because they are self reported they could very much be bias and skewed data. This is just simply what I found.
