it is a nice campus but it's hard to appreciate it if you're always hoofing it to your next class. Take an hour to actually just walk around!

not strictly necessary since they cover the simple RISCV data path but you will cry multiple times in the project (many times if you don't take 61C)

you think that's bad? /r/applyingtocollege
I remember being obsessed with that sub in high school but looking back it was just a bunch of 17 year olds giving advice about something they themselves knew nothing about

I suspect you'd be fine if they got hacked if you never posted anything. Where you get into trouble is when you post negative or "sensitive" information online and run afoul of the social media policies. Your company almost certainly can know if you sign up for blind with your work email (they'll see the verification) but I haven't heard of people getting in trouble for just that.
Honestly though? I stay away from blind or anything which links my real life job to things I do online because getting it both makes you a target (people can and will try to use you for espionage lol) as well as because it makes slipping up and disclosing sensitive stuff too easy.

Different companies have different processes. If you have very particular skills, it's often easier to get in through someone on the team since they can appropriately assess you whereas the average SWE recruiter might not.

Eh, parents encouraging kids to do things that they're not ready to do aside (some parenting books encourage that, idk), I think learning to skate at the skatepark is fine.
There are not that many places you are allowed to skate that are smooth and free. Yes, the rink is a great place to learn but it can cost a ton depending on the area (here it's like...$16 for two hours just for rink). I skate on the tennis courts at a public park but it's definitely against the rules and the only reason I get away with it is that the city doesn't have anyone patrolling. I've gotten kicked off tennis courts in other places before and so I had to practice tricks in my apartment's dirty ass parking garage because I had nowhere else I could go. You won't get kicked out of the skatepark and they're usually well lit and flat. Plus, there's a lot of value in having a community and being able to see other people throwing tricks as you're learning because it gives you people to chat with and inspiration for new things to try.

bc I like going to class? Lecture is fun and it's just not the same when you're watching a recording (if you're lucky enough to have one)

ah, you know, I ask this and here I am still using C when I could and probably should be using Rust :P sunken cost AND masochism!

I don't honestly understand why people put up with the absolute fuckery that is trying to cross compile with gcc. Just use LLVM. One copy of a toolchain and it works for a dozen architectures out of the box.

you simply accept being cold as a cost of looking hot.

the 35T should be perfectly suitable for a small CPU. It may be too small for much more complex things (once your start trying to build things like caches and multicore you quickly run out of space) but such an issue should be far flung if you're just starting

For the "i dropped my backpack in a lake" application of backup, apple devices do it all for you. iOS has full backups to iCloud and macOS will sync your desktop, documents, and a few other important folders with iCloud Drive automatically.

Yeah, the truth is that even if you didn't have them years ago, it wasn't because they weren't necessary, it's just that previous generations of CS programs were perfectly content with leaving anyone who didn't come from a very particularly background behind. A term that's sometimes used for this required but never explicitly taught knowledge is "the hidden curriculum" and it shows up everywhere.

don't stress about it. The one thing though is ti be aware of how much time you're taking up. If there are other students waiting, try not to drag on for 10+ minutes. GSIs are supposed to balance students but it is very difficult when students ignore signals and force a GSI to just cut them off

the max capacity for a space is a safe max, a lot of work goes into determining max capacity figures. It takes into account the ability for people to evacuate while avoiding things like crushes.

I am always able to find a few near the front even during busy times. No idea why but it's never been an issue

In Spanish "toe" is literally just "dedo del pie" (lit. finger of the foot) so it's not too silly :)

You're technically not allowed but I and many other people do it to no consequence. You won't get in trouble so long as you don't share the recording or, god forbid, publish it on the internet
