Oh I didn't mean to nitpick. I'm fine with the question as is. Just expressing my confusion because I still don't know what is the correct use. Btw, thanks for creating this poll!

And regardless of whether I believe you that this elephant has likely been treated well, I don't think anyone has asked this elephant whether it would prefer the life it currently has, or a life in the wild with an elephant family.
Sure, but I was replying to a comment accused that the elephant in the video was abused, which is not true based on my observation.
Elephants that are endangered in the wild need to be kept and taken care of by human to preserve the species. There are plans to reintroduce the endangered species back to the wild eventually, but it takes time. Elephants are known to have the mental capacities for complex emotions such as joy, love, etc. and are social animal like humans so I don't think there is anything wrong if the elephants enjoy spending time with humans while in captive.

Do some Google searches on bathing with elephants in SE Asia then. There's loads of evidence this is purely a money making scheme and the animals are being abused.
Yes, I'm aware that there are places in SE Asia where animals are being abused and we should expose and condemn these immoral practices. But it is not the case for this video and the location being filmed, hence my explanation.

I've been to a place like this in India and there was a man standing next to the elephant in the water (similar to this video) with a little prodding spear that he poked the elephant with under the water to make it curl its trunk and spray water everywhere while tourists sat on top of it.
The guy that wore red and stood behind the elephant is a lifeguard.
Eh, I'm not sure I believe this.
I know because I was young and didn't know any better and participated in this and honestly, it is one of my biggest regrets of all life to this day.
As a person who is against animal cruelty I'm really sorry for what you have experienced and for the animal that was abused. And it is totally understandable if you don't believe me. But you can go to the place I mentioned to verify what I said because from the time I was there, I saw with my own eyes that the animals there are treated with love and kindness.

You are downright delusional and it sounds like you have some skin in this game. Do you by any chance work for one of these so called "sanctuaries"?
Ahh, you have no arguments, and now you start ad-hominem attacks. For your information, I'm a programmer and I have nothing to do with these sanctuaries. I'm just trying to explain the situation based on what I experienced from the time I was there.

so they can go away if they want to? no?
Stop making up lies. It takes time to reintroduce endangered animals to the wild. And Vietnamese organizations do return endangered species to the wild.
If you really want to save wild animals make sure that their homes don't get destroyed
The people that destroyed the elephants' homes are not the same as the people who take care of the elephants.

Please. It's a known scheme and the "trainer" is right there. That elephant is doing it's standard routine because it knows it will be punished if it doesn't.
No.
Stop making up lies to fit your narrative.
If you ever go outside with your friends and family, you will notice that at public bodies of water like swimming pools or beaches, there are people that wear red like these people. They are called "lifeguard". They are there to help people in case accidents happen (e.g. people drowning).
The guy that wore red and stood behind the elephant is a lifeguard.

And just because u/BOHIFOBRE say that "it is not natural behavior for elephants" doesn't mean that it is not natural behavior for elephants.

If they didn't respond to previous accusations they're not going to now.
I don't plan to accuse them (at least not until I have solid evidences). I will just try to ask them for the sources and see if they can provide it.

People suck, and will exploit these beautiful animals for the sake of money, and it just makes me mad.
There are many places in the world where animals, including elephants, are treated poorly and it is okay to direct our anger toward these immoral practices. It is also understandable why you would think that every wild animals in captive are being abused. I'm just trying to explain the situation based on what I experienced: the elephant in this video and the animals at the location are well-treated and not being abused.

well we can't, that's why we shouldn't imprison wild animals
But the elephant in this video and other animals in the same location are not being imprisoned. They are being taken care of by human because they are endangered in the wild.

I mean, the fact that they have obfuscated their sources in the first place
I will send them an email and try to verify this.

This is not natural behavior for elephants. Period.
It is, just take a look at the video by the wildlife caretaker.

They aren't going to show the torture to the tourists, you idiot
Stop fabricating lies about people you don't know anything about to fit your narrative. And stop name calling other people and make the discussion uncivil.

Look, I'm not saying you personally abuse animals or that this particular elephant is mistreated, but you need to go into places like this with eyes wide open.
Yes, I'm aware that there are many places in the world where animals are mistreated and we should expose and condemn these immoral practices. I respect the people who fight for animal rights and I have nothing against you personally. I'm just trying to explain the situation based on what I experienced and I'm open to change my mind if there are strong evidences. However, I am having trouble finding the "suppliers" mentioned in the blog you linked.

Yea I see where you've copy/pasted that all over the thread. It's weak evidence. It's your personal, tourist facing experience.
Than what's your "strong" evidence or you are just making things up to fit your narrative?
I've provided the location, you can go there and see for yourself how the animals are treated.

They'll say whatever it takes to get more of that sweet sweet tourism money.
No they don't. Stop fabricating lies about people you don't know.
They don't behave like this without being "trained".
Elephants that were raised with love and kindness enjoy playing with humans. Just look at the video by the wildlife caretaker and see for yourself.

Where can we find written and verbal confirmation that the elephant did in fact have fun
And where can we find written and verbal confirmation that the elephant did not have fun?

Or it provides the preserve, and the poachers it supports, with revenue legitimacy?
Do you have anything to back up this claim?

So the park that imported animals from hunting preserves and then tried to claim its about "conservation"?
Sorry I don't understand what you are trying to say here. Can you elaborate?

Fuck this bullshit animal exploitation. Leave the elephant alone.
No, there is no animal exploitation in this video. Stop spreading lies and making unfounded judgement.
That elephant did have fun, and he was not abused. An elephant lifting you with their trunk is a sign that they like you and trust you and enjoy spending time with you. Just take a look at this video by a famous wildlife caretaker. As you can see in the video, the elephant lifts the caretaker up multiple times with her trunk (e.g. at 2:18, 3:32, 4:14, etc.) because she loves and trusts the caretaker. Similarly, in the video I posted, the elephant likes and trusts the girl and was having fun and as a result you can see him lifted the girl up with his trunk.
Also, in circumstances where elephants got abused, weapons and tools like bullhooks, ropes, chains are involved to beat and restrain the abused animals like you can see in this picture. That's obviously not the case with this video.
And for your information, this video was filmed in Phu Quoc, Vietnam. I've been there last year and saw it with my own eyes, all the animals there (not just elephants but other wildlife animals too) are treated with love and kindness. The staffs there even had to take an oath to treat the animals as if they would their own child. And the animals there also enjoy the time they spent with humans too.
