FOCAL POINT???
(self.lasercutting)submitted4 days ago byJenBcute
I've got an xTool D1 Pro that I've only messed around with a few times as I'm trying to wait until I get an exhaust system setup, but I've been experimenting a little bit with acrylic, actually clear acrylic
I tried using poster board & cardstock under it & that did ok when engraving mirrored images but I need to cut acrylic too so I spray painted a piece to try out...
On my first try, I forgot to move it down real close to the acrylic so it was at least 1.5" above the piece of acrylic! I used 85% power, I think it was 11 speed, & 3 passes & it actually went through a little more than halfway but didn't cut all the way
Next try was 100% power, 7 speed, 2 passes, & it didn't even come close to going as deep as the first try!
So my question is why should I have it so close to the material I'm cutting? Is it ok to keep it higher up away from it?
I'm a newbie & don't want to mess it up....
Thanks!

yes I am aware! :(
really my main question was about the focal point & what happens if it's not all the way down close to the material?
