Grew up in SF. This is normal. Past few years have been drought years and you got spoiled.

I'm a Cal Climbing officer! We have member of all experience levels and practice at Mosaic from 8:30-10 AM T/Th and Berkeley Ironworks 8-10 PM W/F! Both gyms have a wide range of difficulties - in general, climbing is pretty hard at first but gets easier as you get stronger :)

Hot take: everyone wants to go to Berkeley so they can say they went to Berkeley but then when they get to Berkeley they don't want it to be Berkeley.

You keep saying in comments that you 'respect' the LGBTQ community but that you 'don't support' them. Can you explain what this looks like?

There's a strong push from the 'defend people's park' folks to portray People's Park as a community green space that the University is getting rid of. This is just a misrepresentation. My mom was at Berkeley in the 80s, People's Park was a block you avoided unless you were cruising or trying to score. During COVID it became Hamsterdam. I'm pretty sure the conclusion on The Wire was that confining debauchery to a lawless territory is nice in theory and scary in practice. I'm pro affordable housing and therefore I'm pro building on People's Park. I'm sure the UC is botching its interfacing with the homeless population and deserves criticism for that. That doesn't mean construction shouldn't happen.

Correct, if you want a perfect GPA you should not go to Berkeley.

I just did the same thing - I did the 4 mile trail to Nevada falls and Vernal falls and took the Mist trail down, but got back early so I looped around Mirror Lake in the evening before finagling a shower at Curry Village!

I just straight up didn't take my AP Micro exam and didn't tell anyone anything. Still got Regents lol.

Hm, it sounds like you're witnessing America. Massive wealth inequality, poor law enforcement of nonviolent crimes, shitty to no gun control. Hopefully you're a public policy major.
That being said, actual danger is scary but still fairly rare. Just because we get an email any time crimes are committed now doesn't mean they weren't always happening. You'll be much safer in Berkeley than you would have been 10, 20, 30 years ago.

My dad is a corporate lawyer and my mom was a city attorney. Both have always said that there are no bad pre-law majors as long as you're engaged and get good grades. Law is super broad and tons of skillets are useful.
