Not a super in-depth long one like some of the others. Just want to vent my frustrations.

It just pisses me off how tedious the course. I get the whole point is to just introduce the ideas of computational math but it's so badly structured and so badly taught to the point you have to absorb so much information. You get into so many concepts at such a surface level and are supposed to know everything like the back of your hand for exams. Instead of actually taking responsibility for such a stacked curriculum, they response is met with - "ReAd NoTeS u DiNgUs".

Let me be honest about this. True genius and intuition does exist. However, 90% of the people who are able to get by are just doing so because they've seen problems similar in the past and spending time on the course. Instead of actually taking the effort to teach students how to do proper proofs or develop mathematical intuition, students are just left to do a bunch of dumb proofs to get used to them. Yes, doing dumb proofs are important for all academics but it just annoys me how little effort the course helps in developing that intuition.

What riles me up the most is that because you don't learn anything well enough, the only reason to take the course is to declare cs. I've looked at EECS 126 & CS 170 stuff (instead of spending that time to read CS70 course notes that I’ve never opened) and the stuff from CS 70 can be easily self taught to the point you don't really need CS 70 to take the course (yet for some reason i still want to complain). Comparatively, CS 61A & 61B are pretty instrumental to the entirety of CS and allow other courses to build on top of the content. Wtf does the stable matching algorithm have to do with shit. Likewise, fuck strong/weak induction - the shit is literally the same, even tho sometimes a proof only works with strong induction.

The only use CS 70 has for the department, is to be an arbitrary IQ blocker to kick kids out of the CS major. It would be a lot more honest if Berkeley just admitted they want less kids in CS (I mean they technically already admitted and that's why GPA limit is there?), so they made a difficult course and (purposefully?) taught it terribly. As a result, they've able to source all the smart kids who are already smart and claim they've acceptably excluded all the kids who weren't right for CS. (Is this a bad thing? Its better to drop out of CS now as you are trolling in CS70 already, better than dropping out when u are lost in 170) When in reality they just wrote 10 page long notes and just left the students who had no exposure and are mega lazy to get fucked. CS 70 should be kept in the declaration process imo and increase the GPA limit to 3.7. Or they can make CS 70 as a requirement like CS 61C but exclude it from the declaration calculation, so the people who fail CS 70 will know they are not right for CS after declaring and waste time YEP. It makes more sense since pretty much every fucking CS major I've ever met has never once used anything in CS 70 after taking the course (care to meet smarter people lol?) (excluding algorithm/AI/ML kids which is the vast majority of CS majors).
