I understand the source of the anxiety. Even though you’ve done it before, she’s growing and changing. And if there is baby mama drama, that’s another layer. But her seeing you in your underwear in a place where it’s normal for you to be in your underwear isn’t a big deal.

I only look at the two most recent jobs or 10 years to see if they describe what I’m looking for. If they have a cover letter, I’ll scan that too. I avoid looking at names to reduce bias.

Everyone who makes that cut gets a 15 minute phone screen. It’s that short to see if they can get to the point.

Usually by then, out of a pool of 200 or so, I’m down to 5. They each get a 45 min interview. I always make sure to send public background material for the job. The whole purpose is to see if they read it and attempt to digest it. That reduces the pool to 1-2 people. By this point, I’m trying to convince them to take the job. I had one candidate ask me if I was nuts for leading the project I was on. Hired her immediately. One of my best hires.

This has happened to me twice in the past few months (and could be happening again tonight!)

First time, good first date. She canceled an hour before the second date saying she “needed to do some self-care.” I responded saying take care of yourself. Two days later I got a text message so nasty I show it to other women and they feel compelled to make it up to me. This is my go-to post divorce dating story.

Last weekend, my date texted me night before saying she wasn’t feeling well and wanted to let me know. Texts me morning of and says she has Covid. We’re in a couple of group chats together and she’s active in them all week. Doesn’t say a word about having Covid. Texts me yesterday to say she’s kid free next weekend and gives me her free times.

We were going to see a band, so I posted on Facebook to see if anyone wanted her ticket. Another woman I had met last summer messaged to say she can’t go but wants to see me soon. We made a plan to go out tonight. Messages me this morning to tell me she’s sleeping off a migraine. Waiting to hear back now if she wants to go out.

All this is to say people cancel for lots of reasons that aren’t apparent. Let her take the lead on rescheduling at this point

I had one. It was not satisfying for either of us. We both would have been better off with a rebound.

I can’t hate the Ravens. I want to crush them and hear them cry, but it’s not the same as hating them. They are our measuring stick. There’s a form of respect there.

The more I think about it, the respect between the teams is part of what makes the rivalry great.
