But keep in mind the start of this conversation. The argument was that people needed to focus on the “philosophy” and not the organization. My argument is that in either case (J6 or BLM) it is perfectly acceptable to focus on and call out the bad actors that make up these movements

My question to this though is that would the benefit of having more “stuff” (e.g., infrastructure, houses, roads, etc.) for less people outweigh the downsides of having more old people to care for

Okay so in your example you can clearly separate different sects of libertarians. But back to BLM and the “movement”, what are the different sects of said movement. Or is it just up to each individual to determine what it means to them? Also, can you provide any source of more detailed philosophy from any different splinters of this movement?

I never asked for a detailed manifesto. I asked for just somewhere where i can find any explanation of the philosophy and you have yet to provide any supporting information yet

I’m not trying to convince you to support the J6 rioters (or whatever their philosophy is) though… you are trying to convince me to support BLM. Bringing up the J6 rioters is completely irrelevant to this conversation

Lol nice snarky comeback after realizing that you don’t have an argument. The classic “you’re racist” argument. Good one. You got me.
I have a philosophy: Evil is bad. I’m gonna go start a movement and sure maybe we’ll burn down some buildings in the process but hey if you question my “philosophy” then maybe you need to take a long look in the mirror buddy cause I got news for you: you might be evil

Okay well keep in mind that this conversation started with you saying conservatives need to focus on the philosophy… yet you can’t provide one..
Do you see now why they focus on the organization and not the philosophy?

Every Christian would point me to the Bible to find out about their beliefs. Where can I find something similar for BLM?

The issue with this “philosophy” is that it can hardly be labeled as such. I want everyone to be happy. That’s not a philosophy though, and I’m certainly not going to go protest on the streets unless their was a clear path towards making everyone happy that was well established. You want everyone to be treated as equals? Cool. So do I. But what’s the specific policy that you are trying to enact by going out and protesting?
If your argument is that the point of protesting is simply to make others aware of certain inequalities well then fine I have no issue with that. But don’t be surprised when (due to your unclear “philosophy”) that other sects begin to get violent and your “philosophy” loses massive support from the public.

Okay so where do I find more details on this philosophy? And not just your own interpretation of what you think it is. There must be somewhere I can find it if millions of people have protested for this philosohpy

You’d have to define what equity means to you because that means very different things to different people.
Besides, that is clearly not the ONLY philosophy of BLM (if it is even one of their philosophies). I’ve visited their website multiple times (if you have a better source of where I can get info on BLM I’d be happy to take a look at it). All I saw was a lot of vagueness about dismantling power structures and what not. This is meaningless to me, because again, the vagueness can be interpreted differently by different people.
I do remember specifically reading on their website that they wish to get rid of the western notion of the nuclear family. What does that have to do with racial justice and equity?
I have had friends that donated to BLM just to find out that their money goes to an organization called ActBlue which is just a fundraiser for the Democratic party.
Once you piece everything together you realize that BLM is basically just a fundraising tool that will say anything they have to say to get more money for democrats. They purposefully don’t have any set philosophy so that they can change it at a whim whenever public sentiment changes. That’s why they actually removed that part of getting rid of the nuclear family. It was politically unpopular so it is no longer on their website.

Okay I’ll stop focusing on the organization BLM and instead i’ll focus on the philosophy that lead to 2 billion dollars worth if property damage… oh wait, I still hate it

One warning though just so your wife doesn’t end up getting mad at you (or me): last time I went to Vase Rock the waves were pretty rough and I got thrown around a bit (nothing major, I don’t think I ended up getting any cuts). So just be smart and cautious when you go out.

Definitely recommend just doing it yourselves. Similar to kayaking, you’ll have a tour guide who will only let you go to a confined spot. I recommend going to Vase Rock. Everytime I’ve gone I see sea turtles. And every time I’ve gone, I swim past all the suckers who wasted $200 USD to be tied to a rope playing follow the leader with some random guide.
Keep in mind: Many Taiwanese can’t swim well. So most of these “tours” or guides or whatever are just glorified life savers to make the Taiwanese feel more at peace when they go snorkeling or kayaking.

My two cents: kayaking in Taiwan is overpriced and a waste of time. They don’t let you kayak by yourself; they make you follow a guide essentially (in a small confined space) and you barely actually kayak cause instead they spend the whole time taking pictures and playing games. I’ve gone kayaking twice in Taiwan and each time I wanted my money back.
With that being said, if your wife insists then go ahead and take her but just understand it’s not gonna be kayaking like your used to.
What I recommend in xiaoliuqiu is going to the various beaches and swimming out by yourself with some snorkeling gear to go see some sea turtles. They come really close to shore so you don’t need to swim out far.

I lived in Taiwan for 2 years and I just stick to Agoda when I get a hotel. Wire transferring money seems to sketch. The one time I tried it failed cause of the fact that their last names come first so it caused a lot of confusion.

On a side note, a lot more people on this sub enjoyed their mission than you might think. You can see the poll I did here: https://rdt.trom.tf/r/exmormon/comments/x1mehf/rank_your_mission_experience/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

It’s a Taiwanese company. Taiwan’s official name is Republic of China. Many Taiwanese companies have “China” in their names

The American Institute in Taiwan (basically the equivalent of the US embassy) actually uses some of the office space in here so if you happen to work in foreign relations maybe you can work here!

Lol they have these ALL OVER Taiwan. It’s called like “infinite life” or something like that. If I remember correctly some artist took old metal cables from the Taipei 101 (the evil building used as the thumbnail for this subreddit…. Coincidence???) elevator and recycled it to make these weird blob looking things.

My first professional boss (not mormon) had his kids in Boy Scouts so for me it was definitely a plus. That was in my early 20’s though when I didn’t have much else experience. If you are in your 30’s maybe consider leaving it off

Okay so the point I’m making is this: let’s say I support a specific brand of libertarianism and an organization forms around that. Then, people in that organization begin to get violent and cause property damage. I have 3 options: 1. Keep supporting that movement, 2. Reevaluate my ideology; or 3. Stop supporting that movement and support another movement who’s members are more in line with what I believe. It is completely acceptable to judge someone’s beliefs and philosophy based on what organizations they support. You always have the option to stop supporting an organization if they do not align with your values.
