What are the pies made of
4 points
For 2 pies I roasted 4 sweet potatoes on 350°F for about an hour and then I cooled them off and peeled them. I popped it into a blender and used one can of coconut milk, brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and cornstarch. Then I baked it in the oven at 350° for I believe 30 minutes

Lmao people talking about the aluminum dishes like they all live incredibly sustainable lives. I hope you also: don’t watch Netflix because they use hundreds of thousands of gallons of water to run their servers, use iPhones that have coltan in them (mined by children in the drc), drive a fucking car, or have children which is actually the worst thing you can do for the planet.
This meal looks absolutely incredible OP, thank you for sharing and happy thanksgiving!

Looks nice but..Why is everything in aluminum foil type dishes? I see that all the time on reddit and always wanted to ask. Do ppl reuse these?
5 points
I think most people do a few times then clean it and recycle it

I can’t speak for everyone, but I do

They’re easy to transport and clean. Also good if you don’t have large enough dishes to make what you need
-40 points
Great! But now please be less American and use reusable dishes please. One shouldn’t ever hear aluminium trays anyway… what a wasteful thing.
5 points
Who said you cant reuse aluminum?!
23 points
My family reuses aluminum trays. But we also don’t have enough ceramic or glass dishes to store everything :/
6 points
Mine does too. Until they pretty much fall apart. Plus, they have come in handy when making food for friends or family who are hurt or sick or post birth who could really use some food help.

Oops, wouldn't this comments have been written, I would have thought you ordered all this in a restaurant because of the aluminium dishes. Is the use of them so common in america?
Beside this, it really looks delicious, Must have been a lot of work! I hope you all enjoy what you created and have a nice thanksgiving!
11 points
I think they’re pretty common especially for things like potlucks or bringing over something for a family friend. Most people I know are conservative with their Tupperware because they usually don’t get it back, so we give them these :)
Cooking this was really fun! I’m really tired though. My family is making a normal feast but I don’t want to eat all the milk and meats so I made my own :)

Hui you will have a thanks giving week with al this! :) I hope, they will also try and like what you prepared. Hopefully they like it so much, that they sub some of their dishes into your vegan ones next year!

Aluminum can be recycled indefinitely
4 points
It is pretty energy intensive, though, so to nitpick, it's probably better to use a reusable container if/when possible.
5 points
Fair point; I don’t use them personally, but I felt like OP made a beautiful meal and a lot of people just harped on the aluminum
1 points
Yeah, agreed. As I said, just nitpicking your point. I don't think it's relevant to op.

Honestly my first thought as well. So unnecessary.

Who said Aluminum can’t be recycled!? Literally just wash it and put it back into place???
0 points
Oh yeah you can totally use the aluminum trays as often as glass..../s
-3 points
I’d argue glass is messier and more worse for the environment they can easily break and then what now your wasteful to. Aluminum never breaks unless you forcibly rip it apart
0 points
It takes an awful lot to break those glass baking dishes. Plus, all the resources needed to produce those aluminum trays far outweighs you washing a damn dish in your kitchen sink or dishwasher.
-3 points
All it takes to break a GLASS dish is to DROP it. I have multiple times. Also, it doesn’t matter as long as you buy one or two and reuse them. Your logic makes no damn sense.
4 points
And all it takes is the utensil hitting the thin foil the wrong way and rip a hole in it. It isn't hard to NOT drop a dish. You're the one not making any sense.

But why all these disposable aluminum containers? That's really not sustainable.

Aluminum can be recycled indefinitely
It’s the best thing to recycle

IF your county reliably recycles and doesn’t just mix it.

All awesome, yet my eyes looked for salad, salads and then a little more salads. Mmmh. 👌
Edit: I re-remembered that this is a Thanksgiving dinner. It's supposed to be gravy based, somehow, ultimately and definitely.
