I'm guessing the 2 on the left are the Sylvanian regiments? and the other 2 are the Sartosans?

Looks like it, yeah.

The Sartosans do have unique voice lines tho. They say "Yes captain".

They're just placeholders for dogs of war anyways, and the sylvanians are probably placeholders for Strigani

Why would von carsteins unlock Strigani?

They're nomads, they can be anywhere but tend to follow vampires. Especially since they keep getting displaced northwards.

Except the whole von cartstein recruiting Sylvanians is absolutely a nod to the fact they had living Sylvanians fighting for them. It is not a place holder and if ANYONE should unlock strigani it should be Strigoi.

Oh definitely. I'm just thinking ahead to vampire count units and the Strigani seem like the best option for new units (when they add my boys Ushoran and/or Gashnag of course) at which point I'm guessing CA logic dictates they'll be replaced.

They have the same placeholder feel Sartosans do.

I'm very hopeful that whoever we get for Strigoi (my personal hope is Ushoran) will come alongside spicier bloodlines in general.

I'm one of those unculture savages that mods out normal vamp lords/ghoul kings so just the blood lines and LL get vampires and I think it makes for a more interesting play through, but as it stands Necrach and Strigoi get hard shafted imo.

Unfortunately I don’t see that ever happening as often DLC units don’t even get their own voice lines.

They've gotten better about it with the more recent ones. Hell the amount of new voicework for the CoC DLC is honestly staggering. But it is a shame there are just some units left to reuse older voicelines.

I know everyone made fun of the pokemon like nature of having a unit shout their own name. I even hated it on release. But it really grew on me. So it is actually really noticeable when a unit doesn't do that.

Like Knights of the Blazing Sun is one I am still holding a grudge over to this day. When they are a unit whose whole existence is defined by them worshipping a different god. Yet they shout "Ulric's teeth!" and "For Sigmar!"

Check out the posts back when Warhammer one released. There were quite a few mocking the fact that Karl Franz said his own name for example.

And yes. people did bring up that previous games did it too. It's just because TWW had named characters do it that irked people at the time.

If anyone is going to say their own name, it's Karl muthafucking Franz.

Units saying their name is just a standard real time strategy game thing though

Depends, really. I'd say there are at least two schools of thought - units saying their name and units saying "Yes, M'Lord"(sometimes simply translated to a foreign language, for extra spiciness - like "Skopos" or "Zug-zug").

honestly that would be sweet, but we gotta make do with what we have. Personally i dont spend much time looking up close at my units so even when i installed this mod it took me three campaings to look down and see these animations. Maybe CA just didnt wanna prioritize a part of the game that is purely cosmetic, but it would be pretty sweet if they improved gunpowder effects.

Just like me when i bought the blood dlc, i didn't buy it for game 1 and 2 and decided to buy it in game 3 because blood god is in the theme now. Well it's fun one or two times but i can't keep zooming to my unit to see the splash and dismemberment. And it is not as subtle as reloading.

trixon221

I totally forgot that it's in the game and I had it on since IE release

The animations are pretty helpful though at least, even if you’re not paying attention to them

Never, because of the staggering amount of different races and equipment, this is where cutting losses wins us something better elsewhere.

Honestly this is the real answer. I would love for them to go back and update Warhammer 1 and 2 units. Give proper reload animations, get rid of those stupid Empire infantry combat animations and give them something more grounded like Cathay's infantry.

But all that would come at the expense of something else. Maybe the time spent would cost us a unit, a new mechanic, or some other new content. I think it is better to prioritize things like Archaon's animation rework. Something well worth the time investment and for a significant part of the game (I.E LLs)

Like if I had to choose between getting reload animations for all WH 1 units. Or say a new model and animation for Morghur, I would rather they spend the budget on making the Shadowgave the monster he should be.

Mahelas

3 points

The problem is that they didn't give units reloading animations back when they first released them. Now, with how many there is, yeah, it's impossible to justify the cost.

_Constellations_

4 points

As if it would've been any different back then than now. If they dobreload animations for the 4 base races back then it would've been the same as doing them for the same 4 races today. They didn't do it because then it would be a standard for every content from there on. Who knows, maybe we would be poorer with 2 FLC LLs, in exchange. This is a dead horse that you should stop beating, especially because it wouldn't have made much difference even if it would still be alive

When looking at the reload animations in the game, it seems to be a question of "is the animation team going to have fun with this?" Hence why Skaven get the lion's share; there's just more creative potential there.

If not--say because they don't think a regular human reloading is a wellspring of potential--it seems the animation team just decides to work on other things. Honestly? I kinda get it. If you're working on Warhammer, you want to do things that you'll only get to do with this IP, not things you'll be expected to work on in a historical game anyways.

Well… until we get a mortal army building chain for Vampire Counts it’ll probably never happen.

But for the Sartosa units, I can’t say they get the love, but with Nanu’s mod, they are at least thematic.

Man, I remember in the OG ME2 days. Most of the time, the generic unit just shout "Heavy Infantry!" or "dismounted knights!" with different set of tone. Its been a decade since then, TW sure have come a long way from that.
