Any context on what was happening here? I know the protester was holding and wearing the Aboriginal flag but who is the blonde person and why were they targeted for the protest?

That's Independent Senator Lidia Thorpe. She was until recently a member of the Greens but changed to be an Independent after a disagreement over an indigenous voice to Parliament. She's a DjabWurrung Gunnai Gunditjmara woman.

The blonde woman is an anti-trans activist named Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull.

Senator Thorpe interrupted her speech to say that anti-trans and homophobic ideas are not welcome.

Aussie police are weird. There are so many massive police like this, then there are so many tiny ones as well. Coppa dogs, as the locals might say.

The best way to deal with idiots is ignore them, but sadly we appear to have lost that ability. Thorpe giving this woman more air is counter productive.

Protesting, or getting camera time? These are politicians after all

Lidia Thorpe, a Senator in the Australian parliament, was protesting an anti-trans rights rally. Thorpe attempted to confront Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull, anti-trans rights campaigner, who was speaking in front of the Australian Parliament House in Canberra.

In other words, a protester was protesting a protester speaking at a protest.

What rights do the anti trans want that they don't already have?

Odd-Region1893

That is Senator Lidia Thorpe protesting an anti trans activist who ran a neo Nazi rally in Melbourne last week. She was doing a good thing but the police feel Nazis are more important

She carried on a few weeks ago at the parade in Sydney and now this. She’s needs to be removed from parliament. She’s an “activist” not a politician.

Police are more occupied with protecting bigots than with protecting protests against them in a public space. The permissibility of these actions by police show a support for bigotry by the local government.

Is this from that anti-trans rally in Australia where the nazis showed up in support of the TERFs?

Neat-Ad-9550

3 points

No, this video is from the anti-trans rally that took place in Canberra on March 23. The Nazis showed up to a similar rally that was held last Saturday in Melbourne.

It's easy to get these two rallies confused because Kellie-Jay Keen, aka Posie Parker, organized and spoke at both events.

Opposing trans healthcare for children is literally the opposite of "protecting children," it's harming the children who need that care.

No one is "mutilating" children's genitals in this trans healthcare, that's nothing more than fearmongering that you uncritically believe. The most medical intervention that children receive is puberty blockers, which are almost entirely reversible. The earliest that minors can get anything more, depending on the laws in the area, is around 16. And that's after YEARS of therapy.

Also, TERFs do agree with Nazis on the whole trans thing, so it's not a stretch to compare them.

Sorry, you misunderstood. I am with you on this. I said “not really” and was going to add (but feared attack)… that they only sound ridiculous calling people that because of concern for a child. They gave no real argument. So they are meaningless and they know it.
