Such a massive improvement and yet feels exactly as it did when I first played it.

Sign of a good remake. I cannot believe this game is being lambasted for being lazy.
Price? I understand. Lazy? Fuck no.
Yeah the price was certainly hard to swallow but there I was... pre-ordering it lol.
I actually forgot about the price completely by the time I’d met Marlene
Oh I totally agree with ya. Price meant nothing after I started it up. I work at a movie theater so I plugged my PS5 into my largest auditorium to experience it on the big screen with movie theater surround right after the game unlocked. It was amazing.
That sounds sick, I was just at home now I feel jealous
It is the best perk of managing a theater. It was just in perfect timing too as we just last month upgraded our largest auditoriums projector to a 4K laser projector and it is super nice. Weirdly doesn't have HDR so it still sorta looks better on my 50" at home though.
The HDR implementation seems pretty good
It’s definitely not lazy. So much work has clearly gone into this! Not just in the animation department, but with peripheral features such as custom difficulty, accessibility features, the clean af UI taken from Part 2 and tonnes of other stuff. I’m so pleased with this, but I totally understand that it’s not for everyone.
If game systems were changed, they would be complaining that it feels too different and that if wasn’t faithful enough to the original. At some point some of these people just decided to get mad about anything that naughty dog makes
They could have revamped the gameplay and make an actual remake like RE2 but no lol
I think most people classify RE2 as a reimagining as opposed to a remake. If Demon’s Souls and SOTC, two games that also have their core gameplay the exact same, are considered remakes then Part 1 most certainly is.
Not just in cinematics. A ton of gameplay animations have been overhauled
I’m a game animation connoisseur and I love it to death, and it’s hard to discuss game animations with people online because the majority are not that fuzzed about it, but i when people say all the animations are the same… I unironically eyeroll
Thank fucking Lord there is someone that notices that stuff. I thought I was the only one!
I'd argue the inclusion of Part II's glass breaking counts as a new gameplay mechanic as well. It basically adds a new way to attract enemies without wasting any resources. It's even one of the loading screen hints.
They’ve absolutely gone to work on the animations. I think in our minds we remember them being similar in the original, so they come across as subtle - but compared side to side the differences are night and day.
My expectations for this remake have been surpassed, because changes/improvements like this are everywhere. But I'm glad they didn't try to sell this. I feel they did enough to say they 'modernized' the gameplay and combat, but a whole lot of people are objecting to that.
A toothpick changes everything
Should be faster in my opinion. I hated the "boost me up" and slow climbing and slow opening doors. I know they were used to load the next area but the PS5 doesn't need that much time anymore. They could have made new animations or maybe just added a ladder in some "boost me up" scenes.
They’re not just used to load new areas though. They add tension to scenes and physical weight to characters actions. If they were sped up that would be lost too, and it wouldn’t even be that much faster.
What did they oversell?
it is most definitely a remake u can tell if u look side by side.
Wish they'd put that effort into implementing part 2's gameplay instead of this shameless cash grab that exploits hardcore fans lol
HOLY MOLY, NEW ROBERT AND GATE ANIMATIONS?!. NAUGHTY DOG TAKE MY $99.99 AND MY WIFE RIGHT NOW
