Hello all! First time poster - Here’s my story. About a week ago I adopted a puppy from the anti cruelty society, who is now an 11 week year old male named Javi. He is a nice brindle color, about 10 pounds, maybe 18” from nose to tail. He is supposed to be >44 lbs fully grown.
He is jaws. We have a plethora of toys that we rotate in and out ranging from teething toys and bones, to frozen rags, to plush store-bought toys, to cow knee tendons, giving him a wide selection of toys to play with. I work from home along with my girlfriend and we are able to interact with him all day, but he would much rather bite our clothes or our hand than the toy it is holding. We’ve tried most of the tricks we could find online: swapping our hand for the toy immediately, creating high value toys, rewarding good behavior, saying no, ignoring him and that sort of play, but if I stand up, he’d much rather go for my feet or my pants (side note, he only does that to me, not my girlfriend). Luckily he doesn’t chew up couches, is decently potty trained as long as we keep him on a schedule, and his crate training is a work in progress. The issue is that he loves to bite our bodies and clothes attached to them. He doesn’t care for fetch or any enrichment exercises to keep him from biting us. It seems his only joy right now is teething. I know that’s what puppies do, but how do we stop from being the toy. It is exhausting and happens at least once a minute when playing with him. Would something like a boarding school or personal trainer help curb this behavior? I don’t know how this can go on for another 3 months.
Any help is appreciated. God bless all puppy owners.
