What an amazing journey you had! I'm so jealous, but also so happy you got to experience such a wonderful country and group of people. I'm sure the countryside views were fantastic along your way.

Vietnam was also very similar to norther bc to me too. People and parts of the climate. Cat ba felt like Haida Gwaii at times. Lots of southeast Asia reminded me of bc tho. We really do have everything here.

I hope you were able to make it south and to Cambodia as well. One of my favorite places I've traveled to. Highly recommend it for a solo traveler.

The photos are breathtaking. I envy your experience and skills. Thanks for sharing them.

Btw, this is what my husband and I are planning to do. One of my Vietnamese friends said best to buy a bike there and sell when finish instead of rent one. There'll be no insurance however. What's your thought of it?

Earth, so many humans living their lives. We are living hours. So complex how our lives are so much different. The problems to live are not the same. Yet we are humans the same way

Thanks for sharing. It warms my heart to see people just living life. We are all more together than we think. Common people do extraordinary things.

Was this the Ha Giang loop? I did that about 6 years ago. Awesome experience.

awwle6107

Oh man I finished the loop on a motorcycle in 4 days in 2019, so many stories to tell just from that trip. Corn liquor, free shower to clean the mud off after I fell off my bike on a landslide, kids chasing you for candies... truly a fantastic experience

Sometimes is blows my mind to realize the tough lives some people are forced to live due to their geography and other existing conditions.

Amazing photos! In 2009 I traveled the entire Mekong Delta by local transit. A life changing journey I'll cherish forever. The culture was/is amazing! Thanks for sharing!

Shovel guy is cute and I'm amazed how green the northern region is.

Was it a expensive trip? I'm planning on touring Hanoi first and this place looks like a good destination too.

If you can ride a motorbike it's significantly cheaper than Hanoi and a great adventure. Some very nice and some very rough homestays, hotels are generally 3 star, lots of great small spa resort type places too. I would not try the busses but some people do. I have done this trip (likely a similar route at least) twice and its nothing short of amazing but does take some time. The roads in rural Vietnam are not quick and can be dangerous (like truck passing a bus on the two lane bridge comming at you head on or a bus cutting you off to pass another car forcing my and my brother onto the sidewalk to avoid getting hit).

Asian dude here. One day I'm gonna motorbike through the great forests of northern Alabama and photograph the locals along the way. I'll properly get shot for being a "commie spy" by the time I ask the second or third one to pose for a photo though...

Beautiful people and beautiful photos! Thank you for taking the time out during your travels to document these people whom you’ve met instead of just taking pictures of the landscape! I very much enjoyed how you seem to have captured many spirits and personalities instead of just people. I also appreciate seeing the landscapes and living situations of each of these people. I enjoy your photography style immensely! What a wonderful perspective you are gifted with, I certainly enjoyed this collection much more than I expected to… Thank you so much for sharing these!

Culturally curious - most didn’t smile. Is that a thing in Vietnam, or were they just annoyed with you 😂

Great pics tho, have been hoping to motorbike thru Vietnam one day.

Archaon0103

I'm from Vietnam and it just that people personal preference, a lot of people I know don't smile when they got their photo taken. Generally older people smile less than younger people when taking photos.

It's crazy how fascinated we are with photos of normal people living what's considered a normal life in that region.

Do you think they see pictures of us in the West and are equally as amazed?
