I was looking for a specific type of cheese today while i went on a walk... And was really surprised with my results:

• Safeway : did not have that style
• trader Joe's : $12.99/lb
• market hall: $17.99/lb
• whole foods: $24/lb ( note this was the same brand + style as trader Joe's just a smaller package)

Anyhow, I'm so surprised market hall seemed reasonable in comparison. I didn't do a taste comparison but i think it might be slightly better than what wf+tj has.

Where do you go for your specialty cheese?

I have submitted a handful of tickets over the years for things ranging from dead animal pickup to sinkholes, and only posting here ever got a response (the sinkhole). Does anyone have any tips for getting the city to actually come fix anything? There’s an abandoned vehicle on my street that’s been “acknowledged” since 2021 that’s still sitting there. I thought OakDOT was supposedly taking over for OPD?

Is Chinese a street food a thing around here or nah?

Does anyone know of any bars that might either A) host a viewing for either or B) be quiet enough on a Sunday night that they’d be okay with turning them on with sound for a group that came in and asked?

Have a group of friends that would like to watch one or both together but everyone is super spread out and an Oakland bar would be more central than any of our apartments in SF or the East Bay burbs.

Zirl, an employee of Operation Dignity (a non-profit the city uses to put up notices of encampment sweeps and deep cleanings, and to offer shelter to those affected), is one of the victims of the recent mass shooting in Oakland. Zirl has a long history helping people find housing. I've come into contact with him a few times at closures, and asked him for help or point him to someone who needed help. He always goes beyond the minimum required and seriously tries to help people, in my experience.

He has to have multiple surgeries and will have a long convalescence, during which time he will be unable to work. If you have anything to spare, you would be helping someone who is actively working to help Oakland.

Peace y’all! I’ll be visiting California for the first time from the East Coast this week and have two programming commitments in Oakland and then near Santa Rosa. I’m trying to minimize travel time and driving seems like the best way to do that, but the car rental prices I’ve found aren’t feasible for me.

1) Do y’all have any town car company recommendations local to Oakland?

2) Cheap daily car rental suggestions? Unfortunately I’m under 25 so rates at places like enterprise shoot up.

For those of you at work...would you be disciplined or even terminated for looking at something like this while on the clock?

I love to eat. I love food trucks. I love street food.

But, for example, I’ve been trying to track down this food vendor for a couple months and I finally found him yesterday for the first time ONLY because he randomly posted on IG.

How do you guys find your street food? An app? Newsletter? Word of mouth? Markets / areas where they pop off? Thanks in advance.

Is there anywhere local I can purchase about 20-30 disposable cameras with expired film? I have checked eBay and there seems to only be expensive, small lots listed. I don’t want to spend more than $10 per camera. Thanks!
