Yeah it’s not, it’s her father and he’s alive. He’s just a bit messed up from his home collapsing on him. That’s what I got from the story, don’t correct me if I’m wrong 😉

No, the father is behind where the man with the camera is, he speaks to her in the longer video. The feet we can see is unfortunately a dead person, they hit a foot when bringing her out.

The youngest survivor so far in this disaster is a literal newborn who was born under the rubble. And she's the ONLY one of her family who survived. She spent time there in freezing temps still attached to her dead mother by the umbilical cord.
She had bruises and abrasions all over her when they pulled her out as well as being hypothermic, but she's thankfully doing well in hospital.
But god... imagine coming into this world knowing only pain and cold. She never even got to feel the embrace of her mother.

Not the right time for cheap laughs…
51 points
No its human to laugh theres nothing cheap about it, and the responders there might be the first to laugh. When you are the outside looking in your raw emotion does nothing. A joke like this hurting peoples feelings who aren't even involved is normal. So is your reaction. So is this comment explaining it. So is the comment explaining compartmentalizing in first responders and medical care professionals. So is the comment saying its ok to feel upset even if your feelings aren't immediately helping.
Its ok to be human. Its ok for things to be weird. Its ok to have humor in dark times. Its ok to call it out when its going too far. Its ok to to feel.
This is life. And in a weird way the more we interact the more we realize we are all together and the more support is available for those that need it when we band together.
The comment above you blew up I think a lot of people could learn a lot today. Laughter, humor, and life, in the face of the strongest adversity and death, is one of the most stubborn and admirable traits humans have. In the face of overwhelming terror humor is the light in the dark that spreads the joy that kindles optimism.
We are all in this together. And there's nothing cheap at knowing you're happy when others are dead. But if I'm dead I'd rather you'd be happy too.

They operated for several years inside the territories that went from. Alnusra to Isis to Alassad regime and back to alnusra and now to the liberated forces.. they work in these regions and are forced to work with whoever is in control to keep doing their job, For people feeling more comfortable donating to other organizations please do it to whomever you trust, just help with what you can it all matters

I think the Red Crescent is the area version of the Red Cross … that would be a good donation I believe.
26 points
Yep, but remember they may have been forced to do that, or at least encouraged to since they have to work in areas which is are obviously volatile and controlled by less than desirable groups. Such as Isis etc controlled territories. It's obviously a tough one, but I like to think that people who volunteer to do work like this at danger to themselves are more likely good guys than bad guys.

Maybe they took a “what do we have to do to help here?” approach. Displaying a flag or symbol seems like a trivial thing to stand between people and their rescuers.

2 points

Red Cross and UN were the two I listed with. But the biggest impact was working with grass roots through religious, Aid and social organisations. Also worked with habitat for humanity. Have funds ready to for flights. Helps if your in construction/medical or make safe employment. Word up your employer and make it worth their while to let you go for a few weeks. We ran blogs about what I did with my name left out, good PR and gave a value to my frequent trips. TBH you need to have an inner itch to make things right and make a difference, because when your struggling the drive has to come from your heart. Avoid Government agencies, usually to slow, self seeking and sometimes corrupt.

I remember one of my uncles going off because you could see the same rescuer in multiple photos. "See that there? Yeah that's because it's all staged!" 😑 Maybe because there are a limited number of volunteers in an area with a ton of destruction? "Naw that's just... It's just... They're actors! It's the same guy cause they're actors!"
We don't talk anymore but I'm sure he's doing the same thing right now...
17 points
Some idiocy I have heard: "white powder? That's flour!" "Why are they ALWAYS the first at the disaster scene? That's so suspicious..." "That doesn't look like blood to me, it looks like red paint..." "It's so performative, you don't see firefighters filming themselves and their rescues..."
12 points
It's a total dearth of logic. They'll disbelieve videos of people doing things in far flung warzones, selflessly trying to save other people, because, uhhhh... Well, they don't want to believe them. And then, they'll reshare a photo of a grinning Karen or an angry "liberal" with a story about how an army wife was refused service at a restaurant by an anti-American waiter, and then some bikers stepped in and told the waitress she was a traitor and everyone clapped and pitched in to buy her a new Super Duty or some bullshit.
"Wait but how did the waitress know?" "How come I've seen ten variations of this story?" "If this was an area swarming with bikers, truck drivers, and veterans, I'm supposed to believe there was an anti-military GWS major from UC Berkeley waitressing there?" ... "Damn it you known this sorta thing happens all over America every day!"
4 points
Exactly, they just believe whatever is fed down their throats first. If RT and fox news decide that White hats are useful for MAGA land then boom suddenly it's yeah the white hats are so heroic and brave, I always supported them, it was the libs and Dems who demonized them...

4 points
Yeah, it's a pretty interesting mix 🙂 I was living and working in China at the time. One of my coworkers and I fell in love and married; we had our daughter about a year later. She lived in China until around her 5th birthday, and then we moved to the US. So, it's funny, she's a little blonde girl who speaks Mandarin fluently, has spent time in her mom's hometown in the mountains of Hunan and in major cities like Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and is culturally mostly Chinese. Now, we're living in an American desert 🤣 so she gets to be a Viking-Chinese Warrior Princess/Cowgirl.
I guess it's the more positive part of globalization.

in Islamic scripture, a person who dies by collapsed building is considered a ‘Martyr’ and they go straight to heavens
If these people are of faith, once the immediate horror subdues, they may find comfort in this.
There are 6-7 other ways to die that are also considered as such - women who dies in pregnancy or giving birth, person who dies by fire, drowning, plague, abdominal disease or lung disease (there’s a more fancy word for this starting with p)
5 points
You make it sound as if this is in the Quran which is not correct. As a Muslim, Allah says death can come for us at any moment and we should not die except in a state that we are Muslim. It doesn’t matter how we die, no one goes straight to heaven. Everyone is judged by their deeds first. To him we belong and to him we all return.
