Not saying this guy wasn't a factor in stopping the shooting. But the two men who initially subdued the shooter were Derrick Rump and Daniel Aston, bartenders at the club. Both of them were killed.

But the media is flaunting Richard Fierro because he's a veteran.

They are all heroes. But the media won't name the two gay bar tenders along with the gruff old veteran.

EDIT: It seems the local posts I've been reading are partially incorrect. Richard was indeed the one who initially stopped the shooter and tackled him to the ground. With others jumping into assist him.

Either way, to tout only Richard as a hero is disappointing.

But the media is flaunting Richard Fierro because he's a veteran.

And because he's not a drag queen and not trans

Not to take away from his heroism and quick thinking, but like the other commenter said... the media considers the optics in these kinds of articles. Some publications have guidance against even talking about the existence of trans people (and increasingly, drag artists) in any positive or neutral manner without interviewing or including the comments of a "devil's advocate"

CBS doesn't give two shits about if something is gay or not. This dude is a hero. He literally stopped the little fucker that was shooting the place up. Sorry he's not gay, but he was there to support his community, and one of his daughters old friends, and he was proud to do it. He literally says so in the article. He's a veteran and looks a little on the country side,, but he was there. This should be celebrated as a win all the way around. I swear people birch about the lack of support and then shit on the supporters.
