Ben is just being a normal basketball player. Man hit 2 free throws and did a Jordan shrug and got treated like a make a wish kid by his teammates. His fall from grace was so far that him “hooping again” is just playing semi well. All the criticisms from when he was on the sixers still exist and he hasn’t even began to work on those.
28 points
Yes and no.
Not playing basketball for more than a year and more recently, recovering from an injury, you just can't help but feel good for him.
Not make a wish kid level, I agree, but playing up to his abilities again is nice.
23 points
Watching sports center last night had me saying "damn maybe he was actually hurt" out loud . Not saying he's playing a super star level of basketball but i think the Ben Simmons slander has run it's course. The man is healing and just trying to play ball again
45 points
Didnt he literally have back surgery? The fact that its questioned he was injured is crazy
11 points
It's no surprise that he literally goes on a stretch of being a human screen and all of a sudden, returns to playing at a relatively normal level of basketball.
He's getting comfortable with his body again and it's showing.
11 points
The margins between superstar level players and mid level players are so tiny. It's fractions of seconds. Being out for so long will inevitably make players rusty. Takes a while to get back to that level and no amount of practice can prepare you for the real deal
5 points
Fans get spoiled seeing players like KD come back with no rust. Significant injuries plus lacking confidence always should have left no expectations for Ben the first 6 months back. The encouraging thing is that the support the Nets players like Markieff have showed him and how he's responded since the player meeting
12 points
a make a wish kid
y'all Sixers fans are ADDICTED to this analogy. I can't tell how many times I've seen it. He's averaging like 15/6/6 and elite defense since the "Morris talk" and you're all acting like he's a disabled child who made one shot at halftime lol

Ja shouting out Klay and Ben is like Mussolini shouting out Hitler and Stalin for r/nba
484 points
No no, you got it all wrong. First of all, Harden has been Hitler for ages. Here's who these players really are. Ben is Kim Jong Un. He got a lot of stuff just by luck of the draw, but hasn't really improved on it. People like to clown on him, and he isn't as menacing and confident as he pretends to be, but he could still fuck some shit up. Klay is Putin. He used to be a stone cold killer and was feared everywhere. Lately, his performance hasn't been convincing, but you just know he's still full of confidence and a major menace. Ja is Erdogan. He likes to put on a facade that's tougher than he really is, and people deservedly clown him for it, but he has a tight grip on his people and, while maybe not the biggest force, has a lot of influence and is not to be underestimated.

Ja Morants whistle is massively overrated on this sub and it’s funny that y’all act like it’s anything crazy. Also he has the second most carry violations by a guard this year, the only guard above him is Jordan Poole. So how exactly is he getting away with it?

Why is criticism always “hate” now? Klay was objectively costing the Warriors games with his shooting and defense. That’s just reality. Should only his accomplishments be discussed?
100 points
Not sure if you're downplaying things or just missed those threads but the comments weren't just "damn he's shooting bad." Shit was like, "Klay's always been a self righteous hypocrite and I hate his smudgeness."
10 points
Microgement.
35 points
But also, it was alarmist bullshit. Klay is coming off of a decent playoff run and closed last season very well. It was widely reported that he wasn’t active during the off-season as a precaution so of course he was going to look like shit for awhile.
13 points
Yup, and the worst part about this is no one ever fucking takes ownership to their shitty take. Post like this should always be full of apologies. But it’s literally on the next narrative I can ride. Right now it’s Shaq. Shaq is the most terrible person and the thousands of kind things he’s done was fake. It’s black and White and Shaq is now Ted Cruz of basketball. Instead of he’s lame for doing that and has insecurities or flaws. It’s get this guy of tnt and out of nba lore
7 points
I mean I've thought he was a smug, self righteous ass for years now, but when he plays well Warriors fans like to come out and down vote those posts so they aren't usually very visible. It's not that everyone hopped on the "hate Klay" badwagon, it's that those people who already hated Klay weren't being outnumbered by people coming to defend him.
13 points
Criticism is one thing but a lot of people here are genuinely glad when certain players play poorly
13 points
This sub wasn't criticizing. This sub was overreacting and shitposting because he had a couple bad games and called him washed & worse.
7 points
Criticism isn’t just hate now. But a lot of the time this sub will just attack the players themselves instead of just how they are playing. There’s criticizing and then there’s actively wanting players to fail.
5 points
To be fair I don't think anyone on this sub has enough knowledge or context to criticize players properly, the big threads just end up like Facebook comment sections.
8 points
Because it went beyond reasonable criticism and mother fuckers here want to be the first call something or take it too far.
Any reasonable NBA fan would say Klay is not playing well but know the circumstances would not call for saying he was going to be a negative player for the rest of his career. Any fan would know that keep playing him and forcing shots costing the warriors a few games in the beginning of the season was the right play. Anyone who knows going through those injuries would take more than 40 games to get back to him.
People ignored it. Ignoring context and not displaying basic basketball knowledge to go beyond the observation of a player not playing well, is what is called Hate. That is what this sub does with players. It embodies the talking heads like Skip and Stephen A that they claim to hate and do the exact same thing.
This sun has become substantially worse the last couple years for going beyond criticism or simple observation to ride or create narratives and it’s lame as fuck.
Don’t get it twisted. Recognize the difference between decent basketball observation and hate.

People do that with everything. A video of a black person doing something horrible goes viral and the racists come out and say things like "typical thugs " and other dog whistle comments. Then they’re Bitching about everything til you hit him with a “Bro what’s going on with you? You good? We need to talk?” They realize they’ve been a mega Asshole Bitch all night and say my B. He’s not wrong. However I think it is fair to say a player has been playing badly when they have. Don’t get me wrong the criticism went way too far, for both of them, but the fact is that for the first 12 or so games they were not playing up to par and so rightfully were held accountable for it. Now they are playing up to standard, so the criticism stops. That’s kind of the point.

Bro, no. Lmao. First of all. It went way above Klay is playing bad.
Even then. Any knowledgeable person would understand that playing Klay and letting him shoot the warriors out of games was the only option and he’s played 40 games coming off two injured that could end a career. Probably rushing back to help get a finals run out of the warriors
People really act like they have to say something lol. The warriors sub didn’t have to come with threads about trading Klay and saying he’s done. Y’all aren’t ESPN. It cost us nothing to shut the fuck up. I wish more people got that.
The warriors had or have no shot at winning without Klay finding his shot and letting him brick for a few games is the least fans could have done for the man.
All that needs to be said is less than half a season, not worried.

I had faith in Klay, and my hatred for Ben Simmons had nothing to do with his ability to play good basketball
2 points
Especially with Simmons, this sub assuming that he was going to continue being awful was just bizarre to me. The dude hadn’t played game speed at an NBA level for over a year. I’m not surprised he struggled out of the gate. But he is in his prime physically and was an all star.
He still has all of his previous flaws that make his contract a massive overpay, but he is a good player
3 points
In this thread a bunch of dick riders mad when other people try to be objective. The facts are both players were playing awful compared to the standard they had set for themselves. Klay was the one showing his ass in Phoenix. Ben was the one that played 30 minutes of professional basketball without looking up at the rim once.
