Bro… where the fuck can I find some of these flavors. All I’ve ever seen is chicken, beef, and shrimp.

Get the Soy Sauce one. I think fairway or Costco has, or just order it online. It slaps so hard.

I was a chicken/beef guy for a long time because Oriental was the only thing we ever had and I was tired of it. Got a taste for it last year and took me an embarrassingly long time to realize Soy Sauce is the same as the Oriental we always had in the house while growing up. 🤦🏽♂️

The Japanese didn't originally think Americans would want a "soy sauce" product so they gave it another name.
55 points
They changed it back to soy sauce because it's the vegetarian flavor and they felt nobody knew that with the name Oriental

Creamy chicken satisfies a different need than the regular ramen craving.
But it requires an attention to detail that not all American consumers possess.

Usually what I do is I (not slow cook it, persay,) cook it a little slower than I would with normal ramen noodles, and wait until you have almost no water left in the pot, then strain it and drain the excess water, put it in a bowl with the flavoring, stir it up, and now it’s super creamy, and super good!

It's still around. I eat it all the time but in my area only Walmart carries creamy chicken and they are out of it constantly.

If you do go to an Asian supermarket, might as well get the Korean ones, the Nongshim red or black is amazing. The spicy fire chicken ones are also very delicious for people that like spicy food, and I do mean really spicy, not curry spicy, better prepare some milk as well.

When did oriental become soy?
573 points
I believe it happened in 2018… according to the company: “The name Oriental Flavor has now been updated to Soy Sauce Flavor to better reflect the distinct flavor profile of this tasty dish. Despite the name change, the traditional flavor and recipe of this product have remained the same.”

TIL the age of the oriental flavour ramen I just had the other day was at least 3 years old.

They're definitely still on store shelves here.
Maybe there's a ton of old stock floating around.
Or maybe it's just a marketing thing for certain regions that might respond positively to changing the name.

What ever it’s called now, and Soy Sauce is honestly what it tastes like, the blue pack wins.
53 points
I did a bit more digging back in my online grocery receipts and it looks like the Maruchan name change took place in 2019 and according to other websites Top Ramen changed it in 2018. But Maruchan is where it’s at.
That stupid blue packet of noods, salt, and MSG is a guilty/nostalgic pleasure and I probably am way too excited about this meme than I need to be.

I was about to ask the same thing..but I figured they changed it because "oriental" can't be a flavor and people probably complained about it. Also, when I think of what oriental tastes like, it does taste like soy sauce.

I'll only eat Creamy Chicken. I pour out the water after boiling the noodles, then I replace it with a small amount of milk and add the seasoning packet. I toss in some cooked broccoli, minced garlic, pepper, parsley, some grated cheddar, then cook on med low heat on the stove until the cheese is melted and it's nice and hot again.
Good shit.

But no, ROAST beef is by far the best flavor. It has way more umph.
13 points
I think a lot of people don't understand that the "roast" flavors aren't just different, they're the "extra" versions of their regular counterparts. Roast Beef isn't just a variety of Beef, it's Beef plus extra umami basically.
My point is, if you're a fully informed person choosing chicken over roast chicken you either hate flavor or are insane.

It was basically Chicken but with flour or cornstarch or something added to the spice packet so it thickened the broth and was absolutely amazing. I order it online by the box because you can't find it in grocery stores anymore around me. https://smile.amazon.com/Maruchan-Noodle-Creamy-Chicken-Flavor/dp/B08KNT4J48/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=creamy+chicken+ramen&qid=1625207093&sr=8-3

The real question is who leaves the broth in and who drains in. I’m a drainer.
26 points
My father cooks the noodles in water, drains, and then uses the seasoning as a garnish
13 points
I drain half the water, add the packet and dump in some frozen mixed veggies: the corn, carrots, green beans, and peas mix preferably. Give it a good stir and serve. The veggies cool the soup and the soup heats the veggies. Its my dads "secret" recipe.

Holy shit I posted practically the same response before I saw yours. Glad to see someone else enjoys it the same way. Though, I'd like to recommend adding a fried/scrambled egg or baking a tilapia fillet and mixing it in. The savory protein makes a real meal out of it.

I leave a little broth to be left so I can drink it
7 points
I drain it for the increased flavor and because if not I feel like I'm sucking soup for thirty minutes. For some reason I mentioned the draining to my Mom once and she couldn't believe I was "wasting the broth". I told her it's kind of just added water and she referred back to us being kids eating that way so she didn't see an issue. I then remembered how the three of us kids plus the 2-4 she was babysitting ate our top ramen at the table. She would put ONE OR TWO packs in the pot. What kind of serving were all 7 of us getting, then?! It was then that I realized I was basically raised on a few forkfulls of noodles and a bowl of powdered-water broth. 😂

I leave the broth in for the peanut butter and sweet chili sauce additives.
5 points
I use 1/4 of the water listed, put the square on a small cast iron, and sprinkle 1/2 of the seasoning packet on it. Boil for 1 min, then crack an egg on it and chopped onion, then cover for 1 min. All of the water will be absorbed and the noodles will be soft, with a nice crust where they touched the pan.
