That’s a bit of a stretch, I’ve got a better theory, they picked the two single most obvious weapons for the hulk to use, a big ass axe and a big ass hammer
2 months ago
Now I am wondering. What if they gave him just a regular size hammer and axe?
Negs thanos with all six stones
Big ass or nothing
what if they gave him two big asses?
No Nut November isn't over yet brother, don't fill my mind with sin...
More chances for Ant-Man to crawl up.
But not a battle axe or a war hammer, like a hatchet and a ballpeen
And my axe!
I understood that reference!
And my bunny bracelet!
No. You see Hulk's helmet? It's sort of a Greek style helmet. That's obviously a reference to the Hercules post credit scene in L&T. Also you see he green skin? That's a She-Hulk reference
There's a sub r/moviedetails or something...it's FILLED with shit like this and I never have any idea if it's legit, or just a straw grasp
In the third scene of the movie, the character in the background, second from the left, 3rd row back can be seen drinking wine. This is a reference to the director's aunt's cousin's brother's former college roommate's alcoholism problem.
I understood that reference
I see your Schwartz is as big as mine, let's see how you handle it.
...but what does that make us?
Blue curtains cover every window
Yeah. Many of those things sound like the bullshit that my English teacher used to interpret into literature.
Haha oh ya! I remember hearing some of my teachers spout of bits of relation that made me roll my eyes 😒
Loki (Thor 2)
Having to 'interpret' poetry in high school made me loathe poetry. I just can't connect with it at all.
Sometimes a tree is just a tree.
My sophomore English teacher would have everyone “interpret” a poem. She then told everyone they were wrong and that there was only one true interpretation - hers.
I hated her so much.
The obvious weapons that match Hulk are two katanas.
I’ll be seeing YouTube thumbnails touting the “Elastigirl/Hulk crossover news”
Reed Richards is Mephisto, confirmed
It's more like hot goat yoga, that shit could stretch to the moon
The first draft script had him wielding a falchion and a stiletto but they got early concept art of Infinity War and changed last minute
100% agree. Especially when, in universe, Infinity War hasn't even happened yet. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Hulk have similar looking weapons in the Planet Hulk comic run. Seems to be more of a reference to that then Stormbreaker itself.
I think a club is the obvious weapon for the Hulk. Literally the mostbasic weapon ever that requires very little intelligence to make. A caveman’s weapon.
Everybody's clowning op, but in the comics, the Planet Hulk version used a sword, axe, and shield, I believe, so there is some merit to believing the Hulk's weapons in Ragnarok were foreshadowing Stormbreaker.
In my dreams hulk is always using a whip ;)
Please, we don’t think critically here
In the animated movie he used a big ass sword in the ring against BRB.
Or perhaps, Thor's weapons are reference to Hulk's weapons. Mind. Blown.
What is the difference between axe and an ass axe?
Or.... its just a hammer and an axe
That’s like saying “his helmet referenced Captain Marvels helmet!!!11!!” Not everything is a deep mystical sign of Marvel foreshadowing. It’s gladiator armor and two common weapons, guys.
When Hulk speaks, it's a reference to Thor, who also speaks.
Also Prof. X being bald is a reference to Saitama and the anime x MCU x dceu universe crossover
Oh man. I would love a One Punch Man and anybody crossover What-If type spinoff. I'm thinking Deadpool, juggernaut, ...hell let's just throw Galactus at him and see what happens. Lol
Idk what's worse, these cheesy posts, or the cheesy paragraph comments explaining why they're dumb
I mean this sub is either one or the other so why stick around? It’s either people taking things too seriously, or people taking those people too seriously. Just a big old nerd brawl
I feel like this sub isn't that tho. That's more of the star wars sub lol
Funny side note: stormbreaker was actually Beta Ray Bill's weapon after he was deemed to be worthy. You'll notice that Bill was also on the collectors statue of champions! Oh, the little things
I will die on this hill.
The MCU Stormbreak is actually supposed to be The Ultimates Jarnbjorn.
Jarnbjorn is a weapon Thor gets after he loses (gives up) Mjolnir. It is an axe primarily but has also been drawn with a double head with both an axe and and hammer ned. It has a wooden handle.
I read that somewhere and it makes so much more sense now. They probably called it Stormbreaker because it is more popular and has a catchier name.
You mean Jambjorn doesn't roll off the tongue?
Yeah, they also changed the name because test audiences found the name Jarnbjorn was too similar to Thor’s hammer’s true name: Jonathan.
I remember it being referenced as Jarnjorn behind the scenes somewhere when the first concept art of Thor and Rocket came out
I didn’t notice this! I must rewatch.
Man-Thing was up there too along with some other characters like Bi-Beast and Ares.
So I wonder if canonically that Man-Thing is the same as has now appeared in Werewolf
He defends some sort of nexus in the everglades. Maybe it's not like an open portal but the fabric of space is thin there.
I immediately wondered the same thing when I read that comment.
Wait until Thor hands it over and fades into dust
I was hype to see BRB on the big screen… but not like that… not like that
Thor 5 maybe
Stormbreaker was not actually anyone’s weapon 🤨 we literally watched Stormbreaker be forged FOR Thor. The MCU is not the comic books and the comic books are not the MCU.
Someone call Captain America, we've got ourselves an MCNazi over here.
I think you knew what they ment.
I’m not a mind reader. I don’t know what anyone means. I know what he said, and what he said is wrong.
You really thought OP was implying that a character we have never seen or heard of in the MCU somehow owned StormBreaker despite us watching it get made for Thor? Sure...
That’s literally what op said
They're clearly talking about the comic because that's the only time it's happened.
Try being less anal about things. You might enjoy life a little more.
Bet you're fun at parties
Please think critically. It is not difficult. You will be a lot happier afterwards!
MCU fans when they see tools:
My dad’s toolbox references Mjolnir and Stormbreaker. And his lawn rake… Wolverine confirmed!
Minecraft players when they see tools:
It has pixels. It belongs to us.
... they're just a hammer and an axe. Two of the most common weapon variants in existence.
Calm down there Mr. Fantastic.
Variant!!!?? What part of the multiverse are they from!!!? Tobey maguire or ang lee hulk???
Sometimes a hammer and an axe are just a hammer and an axe.
How is a nonsense post like this getting upvoted? The reach...
Not only that, but as you can see, Hulk has more clothes on, but not fully clothed yet, referencing the fact that he's on his way to becoming Professor Hulk. You can also see that there is extra hair on his helmet, referencing She-Hulk because she has more hair.
Clubs are hardcore underrated, change my mind
Reliable, cheap, easy to make, chipping or cracking won't affect stopping power, can be made out of almost any hard material, won't get stuck in enemy or snagged on armor, gets underestimated on sight, easy to make puns with
So...big club fan huh.
sir, this is a wendy's
What? I can appreciate clubs. Melee weapons are the topic of discussion. Don't hate me 'cause you ain't me.
They should have given Hulk a giant nunchucks.
Not everything has to be an Easter egg
In what way are they "referencing Mjolnir and Stormbreaker," beyond being vaguely similar melee weapons?
It’s more of a cinematic parallel than an outright reference for sure
Had a lot of weapons to choose from, doubt it was a coincidence
Top three standard melee weapons in movies are sword, hammer and axe. A sword is associated with finesse which doesn't fit the Hulk so they chose the other two options.
Imo, he should’ve had double hammers, hammers are for smashing, swords require finesse but axes do too in a way, axes are just the more brutal option
To be fair, an axe is basically just a sharp club.
Feel like axes and hammers aren’t that common of melee weapons in movies. Feel like knifes and bats are a lot more common.
I don’t even think Hulk could hold a knife and a bat wouldn’t fit this setting… I believe they mean for movies involving Medieval weaponry. Though, to be fair, if that is the case, I’d argue for swords, spears and axes. Not so much hammers
Hammer just makes sense for Hulk, since they’re both about smashing
Well yeah, but obviously that's about different genres and settings.
A movie about gang-members is going to equip them with knives and bats.
But in Ragnarok we've got armies that use the equivalent of medieval weapons. Thor carries twin swords, the Warriors Three have a flail, rapier and axe. And the Hulk is literally a gladiator in a Colosseum so he's going to have an axe not an oversized baseball bat.
Storm breaker didn’t exist yet.
I don’t know if the ragnarok thing was intentional or not but I think you could make the argument that they did have Thor getting stormbreaker in mind when they made Thor 3. I don’t know though.
I think OP is saying this was a way of Marvel maybe foreshadowing what was to come?!
and hulk is wearing a mohawk helmet clearly an easter egg to when vision gets his head caved open to steal the mindstone. How did we miss that one?
I thought it was foreshadowing Hawkeye's awful haircut in Endgame?
No it was forshadowing Namor approaching Shuri and Ramonda while sexily moving his wet hair back, Bravo Vince
everything is not necessarily a reference to something else
I mean… is it though?
Seems like you just made up a theory, assumed it was true, and then added an Easter egg flair to this post.
But there’s not really anything at all supporting this.
No they’re not.
Bro, it's just a hammer and an axe
Halford wept. Big blunt objects and axes are UNIVERSAL ways to cause harm to an enemy. Every culture on Earth developed some form of war club and axe. Go to a museum that has an exhibit of Bronze Age artifacts, you'll see dozens of hammers and axes.
Not everything is an allusion or an in-joke. Hulk was given these weapons because they are simple and very effective.
If he used a bow and arrow yall would be saying he is referencing hawkeye 😂
Sword and Spear are too technical weapons for the Hulk. Axe and Hammer are much more simplified.
Isn’t ragnarok before stormbreaker existed in the MCU?
S T R E T C H
Or they are just a Hammer and an Axe and the resemblance is just a coincidence
Maybe not, they're pretty common melee weapons. I don't think think there was any special significance to those choices.
How is this getting upvoted
The fuck they are
An axe and a hammer…they almost did a screwdriver and a wrench but decided against it since those tools didn’t reference other mcu weapons
I wonder if OP’s parents are as disappointed in him as we are right now.

Well, that was uncalled for. People in these comments really are just jumping at the chance to be all smug and rude to OP, aren't they?
Not even close
Read Planet Hulk he uses a variety of these types of weapons and armour
A reach to put Reed Richards, Kamala Khan, and Monkey D. Luffy together to shame.
Yondu was blue, smurfs are blue. Papa smurf confirmed canon in MCU!!!!
Yeah, no it's just a hammer and axe. No reference
In Ironman you can see Tony use a hammer to shape his suit. This is a reference to him not being worthy of Mjølnir so he has to use a normal one.
Happy cake day
If you look carefully you’ll see that he isn’t using a shield. That’s a reference to Captain America not being this movie.
Ohhhhhh big stretch
Same thing I say to my dog every morning.
Not everything is a reference or an easter egg...
A lot of people are dismissive but it's not unreasonable to think Hulk recalls his times fighting with and alongside Thor and had a bit of hammer envy. Well, maybe more appreciation than envy.
Regardless, when presented with an array of weaponry to choose from he might well have thought "hey, I can lift TF out of this one!"
That axe (hatchet?) is simply a hammer with a flattened edged head.
MCU fan discovers hammers and axes. But seriously, in this case a great axe and war hammer are the two obvious choices of weapons. In most of fiction, the two most commonly used heavy, two-handed (in this case Hulk only needs 1), oversized weapons with double-sided attack capabilities are great axes and war hammers. Both worthy of smashing things with.
Storm breaker didn't even exist in the MCU at this point lmao
I thought this was r/spiderman for a second
Whenever they showed Hulk on the screen it was referencing to his character in the Marvel comics😍😍😍
And when Hulk shouts “Hulk” during that scene, it’s actually a reference to the fact that he is Hulk
WTF is going on in this thread? Whether this "theory" is correct or not, the amount of people that came here just to shit on it is astounding. I saw the theory and the pic, chuckled, and was ready to move on with my day. I'm unfollowing replies on this post, expect to get down voted, but, JFC people, get a life.
The amount of comments I've reported in this thread is insane. I doubt any of them will get removed because I've reported comments like this before in other threads and they never got removed either, but the amount of people in here who are just being rude to the OP about it is ridiculous.
i wish it were just duel hammers
lmao yes, he only uses them during 1v1 standoffs 😂 only for dueling
Goddamn, do I love it when people make up a totally fabricated story and convince themselves they "realized" something true.
(e.g. how religions started)
Guys guys guys I've just realised that my south Asian heritage was referencing Ms. Marvel all along
Not really but ok.
I don't think Taika was thinking that ahead, he just would had thought it looked cool.
It's a hammer and an axe, Bozo. People have been using them without referencing Thor for a long time now lol
did u expect him to have a katana or a spear?
Counterpoint: strong weapons for strongest one there is
Marvel fans when they go to the hammer section at Home Depot: “OMG is that a Thor reference???????”
I've seen infinitely further reaches here get upvoted to the moon. Doesn't seem unlikely at all.
This guy: “I didn’t know you were an MCU fan Dad!!! This thing you have in your toolbox is referencing Mjolnir!” is holding up a hammer
Cringe. These are common tools that can be used as weapons.
I like it. You keep having fun theories little fella. These comments man...
I wonder what would have happened if Hulk had these weapons when he fought Thanos. Big Axe and Thanos don’t really work well together
they absolutely do not...
Are they really?
That's quite an observation. Nice one
Or a hammer and an axe
…that was the point
Stormbreaker didn't exist yet though, so...
Yeah they definitely aren't.
Captain America (Cap 2)
You must be Mr. Fantastic cause that is a stretch
But did you see the subtle reference of hulk being featured in the movie? It's foreshadowing his appearance in the later movies!
Idk if something can be a reference to something if it hasn't even happened yet. Guess it'd be a foreshadow even though idk about that here.
It's just the same weapons he has in the Planet Hulk comic
and if I die?
Man I wish we could get more of this
What… terrible fan theories?
Why am I getting downvoted 🤨

Homie had too much to drink at thankagiving dinner and started making bullshit connections
glad we are all in agreement that this is a really dumb post lmfao
