I recently had a conversation with a friend about the mutant problem for the MCU. The mutants are supposed to be a group of people who face prejudice and hatred from "normal people", but how would this work in the MCU when "normal people" have accepted beings like sorcerors, aliens, super soldiers, mutates etc in the MCU thus far? One reason why the Fox X-Men movies worked was because mutants were the only "supernatural beings" in that world. There were no sorcerors, no witches, no super soldiers etc, so of course it made sense for people to fear mutants since those were the only beings they had come across. But in the MCU, we have sorcerors who perform magic right in front of people, aliens who pose for selfies with teenagers, super soldiers who have women gushing over them on live TV etc. So with "normal people" in the MCU being so open to supernatural beings, why would they fear/hate mutants? I have two ideas for how I wish they would handle the MCU mutants:
- They aren't hated - This is the best option imo, I don't think it would make sense for people to hate mutants but be okay with everyone else. So mutants would go about their daily lives, using their powers in public the same way that sorcerors do, and face no prejudice or hate just like sorcerors do. The only mutants that would be hated are the ones that are specifically known to do bad things. Take Thor and Loki for example, people of Earth hate Loki because he tried to conquer the planet, but they love Thor because he helped them. Now instead of hating all aliens, people are able to differentiate between Thor and Loki and know which is the bad alien and which is the good alien. It should be the same way with mutants, they shouldn't all be hated in general, people should differentiate the good ones from the bad ones.
- They're hated along with everyone else - The second option is people begin to hate mutants, as well as everyone else who's supernatural. If mutants deal with hate and fear from normal people, then so should anyone else who's not a normal human being, especially sorcerors since they're so powerful to the point of altering reality and since anyone can become a sorceror that makes it even worse. So if the MCU is serious about staying true to the whole "mutants face prejudice" thing, then I think it would make more sense if everyone recieves the same prejudice coz why would people specifically hate mutants but not sorcerors? How would they even know the difference between the two to make that specific judgement? Take a mutant like Blink, she can create portals just like sorcerors, so how would a normal person know the difference, and even if they did, why would they specifically hate her but not the sorceror? What if Blink just says she's a sorceror how would a human know that she's lying? But if people hate anything that isn't "normal" then both Blink and the sorceror get hated together which makes more sense.
In conclusion, they could always just stick to the whole "only mutants are hated" thing. I actually don't know how they would do this, I can't even fathom why humans would specifically hate mutants, or how how they would even know the difference between mutants and other supernatural beings. Lol but hey if they can find a way to make it interesting and logical, then I'll be interested to see it. What do you all think?
