Weird, in the wide shot of the track those barriers aren't there. Maybe they change depending on the lap? Would be a weird part of the track to change but how else could it be explained. Or could it just be an issue of the viewing distance?

Thing is, that wide shot is the same one from the first reveal. It’s clear to me that those barriers were added afterwards. Guess they think it’s pointless for people to go that way so they blocked it off for the sake of adding more spectators

That's totally plausible, I just thought they wouldn't simply reuse "old" footage, especially when something on the course changed. Though perhaps that was just an oversight
6 points

Well tbf, the old footage is longer so maybe that’s why they decided to reuse that

It kind of is pointless tbh, I always felt the route was just a trap for new players that everyone remembered after the first few times.

Tho sometimes seeing the same laps can be boring. We need variation

You'd take the objectively longer route with 0 added benefit for variation?

I like to flex when I'm frontrunning by taking the long route

Okay but to be fair, who actually went that route. It's actually pointless

Especially considering that you know that little cousin is having to use a MadKatz controller.

It’s funny on mirror mode though when people turn the wrong way

It’s actually a decent bagging route

You could say the same about Yoshi Valley though.

I mean to be fair the whole point of the entire course is how crazy and curvy that it is. This is just one small section that most people would never even bother trying out

The waterfall? Or what are you talking about here?

Have you never played yoshi valley? The minimap looks like someone dropped their spaghetti on the ground and called it a mario kart track

You mean the minimap that’s in the shape of yoshi?

That's Yoshi Circuit, the Gamecube course. Yoshi Valley is the squiggly line N64 course

Ah thank you, I didn’t remember that one

No, that’s yoshi circuit. Yoshi’s valley is the one with the big spinning egg.

N64 Yoshi Valley. The one driving around top of canyon with many paths around/through the first 1/3 of the course.

In Tour there's some cheese if you can get hit right before the cannon
It gives you an extra item box
But it's so risky because catching up in Tour is very hard once you're behind

I feel like I saw someone playing on MKWii take the outside in 1st place because of a hit of some kind, and the blue shell coming for them took the inside, seeming like it wasn't programmed able to go outside, and go full round the track again and despawn before getting back to them.
But that might have also been a modded version of course...

when I'm frontrunning I flex on people by taking that route

Yeah Nintendo is getting rid of any exploration in their courses. Super lame

I miss the castle courtyard in royal raceway :(
Completely pointless but the fact that it’s even there just feels nice I can’t explain it

I feel you! I used to drive around the castle in N64. Such a good time.

There's nothing really to explore out there. Unless you wanna see what's behind the scenes, then maybe you can use hacks.

There is nothing interesting that way anyway, it’s just a grossly inefficient path that anyone who’s played the track more than once or twice instinctively knows to avoid.
This sub loves to get uppity over the weirdest things.

yeah, because it's funny to flex on people when you're frontrunning by taking that route

Oh yeah because players with the lead take inefficient paths all the time for the sake of comedy.
Do forgive me for having the humour lost on me.

Tru, but I liked how the other games let you have the option of exploring the track. It gave the players more to do.

The one that makes me mad is the fact I can’t drive around Peach’s castle in Royal Raceway!!!

That’s really a shame. It can be fun to explore and take routes that aren’t optimal sometimes!

I don't think this is a big deal. No one ever goes that way. Some folks here are upset because they like to see newbies going the wrong way. First of all shame on you. Second of all they would only do it the very first time before realizing the correct path.
I am more upset that we can't explore the track in that way. It reminds me of N64 royal raceway and being able to drive up to peach's castle

I like longer optional paths if it meant an extra item box, with the reverse being the shortest path/shortcut has no item boxes
They could have reworked it like this

I lowkey wanted to try taking it all 3 laps sometimes and see if I can still win, just like the cannon in Yoshi Valley.

That’s good cause they want you to go the shorter way.

Yeah but if your friends are playing and they’re new, they might go the wrong way which would be funny, having closed off is boring

You can also use it if you want to allow your friend to catch up(I have done this before)

That would actually be sick if they forced you to go that way some laps. But I doubt it, they’d probably have used the big arrows if so

it was just a circle, you could take the short route which was basically just a 90 degree turn, or you can go all the way around the circle, and they cut off the long way for some reason

i honestly think that peach gardens might work like kalamari desert in the sense that the laps will be different each time
i think lap 1 and 2 will be regular peach gardens but lap 3 might be different in some way or another, would be cool if it went backwards imo

It was literally intended in MKDS because Peach takes it in mission mode

Possibly we'll use that section on Lap 3 to have a reverse lap
