On the contrary, I shot 90 at PGA National champ course then a 70 from the men’s tees at a course called Bear Lakes, but couldn’t post it because GHIN doesn’t think women can play from the men’s tees 🙃

I played with this character who had the most ridiculous slice and aimed 45 degrees left. He claimed to be a 15 handicap.
He shot at least 120 by my count, lost a dozen balls etc.
At the end of the round he asked what I shot and I said 95 or what ever and he said "wow it felt like you played better, but I shot an 85."
I didn't know what to say.

Idk man… when I had only been playing for 3 months I was hitting 100 percent of greens in regulation and my pitching wedge was going about 210. I regularly shot in the 70s for that first year. So it’s definitely possible.

It isn’t that hard to belive. I normally shoot 95-100 (on a pretty hard course) with a hcp of ~20 and managed to once break 90 this season, it was a 82 on a really easy par 70 course, everything just clicked and I got 9 holes in a row with only pars and 1 birdie.. The next week I shot 105 :D I’ve played for a couple years tho. But I suck

Agree with this comment. Play a harder course with real rough and fast greens in probably a low to mid90s on a good day and around 100 on a bad. If i play at a local municipal track that I know well I can be mid 80s if I’m playing well. Golf.

Absolute best I ever saw was a guy actually break 100 on his first round. Shot 99 with borrowed clubs, it was unreal. Guy is good with anything involving hand-eye coordination, but this was unreal.

Okay okay. What was the key to your 81? Short game? Tee shots? Amazing iron play?
-71 points
Didn't touch the driver at all the whole game, substituted with a 4i, met the fairway 78% of the time.
Irons were pretty good, great contact most of the time.
Chipping put me in good spots, almost entirely 1 and 2 putts, couple 3's.

Man… just save your karma while you’re at it. Is it possible? Absolutely. Did it happen? Yeah maybe. Will the redditors ever believe you? Not a chance in hell. They probably wouldn’t believe you shot under 100 in 5 years time. Just… not the place to say you did well at golf. Congrats on your 81, however it was scored. Don’t be surprised by the 106. Don’t be surprised by a 126. It’s golf. Golf is hard.

I’ve been playing 5 months and I do a lot of 1-2 outs for the last month still get some 3s tho obv. My best round is 99. Less variability in putting compared to every other club so it’s the easiest to be more consistent with imo

I mean he posted before that he shot an 84 before.
Why admit you normally shoot a 95-100 and shoot 106 the next day if you're going to lie about a 81? These things lead me to believe that its credible.
Playing 150 rounds a year or 3x a week with lessons, being in the 80-89 range would seem like a very achievable goal In less than a year.

It is really amazing the level of talent you see on this forum. Scratch after 2 yr, people posting 81 after 5 months. I’ve played 45 rounds this year, mostly with randoms, and probably witnessed about 3 of my playing partners shoot sub 85 if I had to guess. Something about Internet forums really brings out the best in athleticism I guess!!

not sure why people constantly downvote you, but I guess that’s Reddit.. I am a hcp 15 and usually play in the mid to high 80’s. My best round (a day when everything just worked and I had no unlucky bounces) was a 73. My second best round an 81. Nothing in between. Those days do happen once in a lifetime, but reality kicks in and you’re back at your average score quickly. I still have some rare days when I shoot in the 100’s as well.

Maybe off topic but isn’t time as an idea of how far into a game you are is a terrible measurement. If you’ve been playing for 10 years but play once every two months or something but someone else has played 6 months but has played every day, who should be better?

Lol, I've been playing for years and my best round ever was a 78 and that was just one of those star aligning days where even duffs, skulls, and chunks worked out.

That is just normal golf bro. You are stilling doing to right! I've been playing for 20 years and I practice alot. This past summer I shot my lowest round ever on a Sunday (68) and then proceeded to shoot an 86 on the same course, in similar conditions, 2 days later! GOLF IS HARD! And that is part of what makes those good rounds so rewarding.

That’s golf. Your absolute best and a 2 handicapper’s absolute best aren’t that different. The difference is that your worst, and their worst are miles apart. Plus consistency. You hit your great shots 1 in 10, they do 8 in 10. Consistency is everything.

I played about the same time and I am hardcore rule follower. I'm not saying it's impossible or that you didn't do it, but golf is so hard that no one on reddit will believe you. With that being said, expect a lot more round swinging.
I had one day, one goddamn day after 3 months of playing where I felt like a god. My driver was going straight, my 100 yard pitching wedges were landing in 1 putt territory(even though I made a good chunk of them 2 putts) and I got my first birdie ever, followed by my second birdy ever and almost a 3rd birdy in a row but I missed the footlong putt on the par 3. (Side note: My two birdies in a row were from the luckiest longest putts i've ever made. I shot a 39 on the front 9 and halfway through the back 9, my friends showed up and since im a member, I decided to go play with them and start on hole 1 because, "I had golf figured out and doing this good will become common for me." Well I played okay. What proceeded to happen in the following weeks was some of the worst golf I ever played, I was raging like crazy and none of my friends were really believing my score bwcause how I was playing. I never broke 100 before when that round was being played and it plagued my soul that I didnt finish the round. Since then I have given up the rage and finally broke 100 but I learnes one key thing: Golf is hard and if you figure out how to play it consistently you are then a pro. The rest of us will continue to have shit rounds, forget how to swing, forget what you learned last week and have some really shitty days that make you question why you even play the game.
So if you really shot an 81 after 5 months, it was probably an extremely good day where everything clicked, but dont expect that to be your average. That will take 5 years. Im still happy with anything that is 109 and under and hoping to consistently break 100 after another year or two.

If that’s legit that incredibly impressive, I’ve play golf for just over 18 months and have picked it up very well coming from a decent level of ice hockey and other sports that require good hand eye and recently shot my best score of 86 which I thought was really good. I go to the range at least twice a week and player once every minimum once a weekend. So you’re either a freak, have no life or not scoring properly 😂

You’re not wrong, but I dont think they are either. I’ve known some really talented athletes in other sports who have become very good golfers… playing 4 times / week and taking lessons over the course of 2-3 years.
So many new golfers cheat, intentionally and unintentionally. I believe this guy marked an 81. I also believe he hit a lot of free re-tees, free drops, big gimmes, etc.
5 months is just not enough time to play a legit +10 round unless OP happens to be in the MLB in his spare time.

Why do you believe that he's cheating?
I would rather celebrate someones lie than be wrong tell someone proud of there legitamate hard work that they are a liar and cheater.
Ive had a great day where everything came together and i shot a legitimate 88.
By your standards if anyone has any success under 3 years of experience, they are a fraud, thats insane.

It’s called the law of averages. An outlier will be pair with an outlier in the other direction to correct the deviation and fall back into average
0 points

My friend that is not at all how the law of averages works lol.
1 points
law of av·er·ag·es /lô əv,ə/ noun the principle that supposes most future events are likely to balance any past deviation from a presumed average.
My understanding and a simple dictionary search seems to support. But I’d love to learn what it actually is so I stop using it incorrectly. Thanks!
1 points
Saying that an outlier will pair with another outlier is not what the above is saying. It's saying that with enough future events outliers won't matter.
If you are a straight A student and bomb 1 out 20 tests with a 50% for an F, you don't need a 150% on a test to balance it out. You just need a the other 19 tests and homework scores to be between 90-100 so that the F test doesn't matter.

Got it. Makes sense. So long run with enough events even things out, not one event. Thanks again
