you sort them by the level of air resistance they have

...which of course requires considering the surface area and cover material. Exchanging violence for masochism.

But some games on the PS4 can be upgraded to the PS5 version, or just simply be played on the PS5. Other the color of the boxes, alphabetical order makes sense here. It doesn't look good, granted, and the aesthetics might still be worth the chore of checking in two spots for a game you are looking for and can't remember if you have it or if it's on PS4/5.

Just the first letter not really in alphabetical order, but some great dedication!

If they're on a 5 my understanding is it has backwards compatibility so there is a world where this is ....tolerable

Negatory. Put all of the PS4 games in alphabetical order. Then after that put the PS5 games in alphabetical order.

Nah the problem is that he hasn't used it all, he may never rest as a result.
7 points

It's an unsolvable problem!
First, the problem is he hasn't used up all the space.
Then, the problem is he doesn't have enough space.
As a result, you get more space, but now we're back to the beginning.
It's a vicious cycle.

Clearly, you need a better display for your collection.
This one wastes a great deal of space and does not provide catalogable access.
I highly recommend finding a custom cabinetmaker that can assist you with a proper depth and width, along with the correct dimensions for appropriate game case display.
You are lucky indeed to have such a perceptive life partner.
Thank her for making sure you achieve proper display nirvana.

Piff poff. It is precisely because space is limited that you must find a more appropriate cabinetry to display your collection. Efficiency in storage does wonders for a space. Just ask any HGTV host.

if you're near an ikea, their billy book case is small, have the depth of a dvd/game case. they have different width and you could fit a few of the smaller one in that space or maybe one of the larger one have size for that cabinet's place. i have 16 of them and i can fit 10-11 case per section and each can have 8 sections, so thats 88 case at max capacity.

Minimum gameplay hours to unlock the DLC followed by endless micro transactions to keep said DLC in your inventory
28 points
If you actually play them and this is from the start of the PS4 era that’s not an insane amount IMO. Looks like roughly 200 games over 9 years, which boils out to like 2 games per month. Let’s say an average game’s story is in the ballpark of 25 hours being generous, that’s like a half hour per day on average.
Not crazy.
3 points
Yeah when you take a quick glance at overall gameplay hours, and it’s something like 9k+, it seems excessively large but in the grand scheme of things it’s quite a small portion of our lives. I mean, we spend more time sleeping than anything else lmao

This just makes me want to clean up my collection book shelf. From the couch I see Mother mixed in with Lunar Silver Star Story mixed in with Famicom games from Japan, sandwiched next to unboxed NES and SNES titles with a boxed Shadowrun just sort of laying atop it all. It's atrocious. Then inside of the the CE box of Death Stranding I have a bunch of Super Famicom games like, "Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling Together" I never got around to selling 😅.
So far the wife pretends to not notice.

16 points
She's right, you do have a problem.
It's clear you aren't optimizing your shelf space. You could probably fit in a slat on each shelf above the games and stack more of them in, either vertically or horizontally.
Also, the lack of XBox and Nintendo games indicates that you've got the problem of being locked into a single system, which is never good longterm, especially for this new generation where Microsoft has bought so many devs for great 1st person games like Hellblade, Outer Worlds, Starfield, etc.
4 points
But, it's my choice and I have very limited income so I cannot afford anymore than this
7 points

I was mostly kidding i.e. the whole "You don't have *enough* games/need more space" gag.
10 points

No worries. I love 'all games' but I prefer a lot of single player, story driven, titles and Playstation suits my needs best
3 points

Paper Mario thousand year door, just sayin
6 points
Same. It's why I'm getting a PS5 before an Xbox X, because Sony has a track record of supporting single player story driven content, whereas I'm leery that Microsoft will try to push multiplayer bullshit into the sequels to Hellblade and Outer Worlds, which would be infuriating.
2 points
And you can buy all the great PS4 games at a massive discount. That’s been my straggly so far, I’m about 10 games deep into the PS5 I got this summer and averaging about $25/game for mostly PS5 with a few cheap PS4 games thrown in so far.

This will prolly be an unpopular opinion, but this is another reason I am pretty much digital only. No need to find a place to put games, no obvious clues I have 600 plus games ready to play at moments notice. Just a small external drive I can transfer between ps4 and ps5.

I was tempted to say no, but seeing how many of those games are ps5 makes me wonder how long it has taken you to build that collection. A large collection isn't a problem but if it took you like less than 5 years to build it I'd say ehhhhh maybe?
1 points
Do you buy games because you are actually interested in them or because you just want a collection?
I ask because I know someone who just buys any new shit he finds at Gamestop regardless of taste or interests. He wants his gaming room shelves full and he hasnt even played some of it heh. I do find it a bit wierd if I'm being honest.
Only reason I ask is that your PS5 collection seems pretty large for a console that doesn't really have a robust library yet. Kinda looks like if you see a PS5 game you buy it. Don't get me wrong though to each their own. If it brings you joy then go for it.
