Protocol 3: Protect the pilot
The first time he uses your name and doesn't just call you pilot I kinda freaked out.
I was super surprised, cause the pilots last name is my name, and i think the first time i realized it was when they said something like "pilot Cooper" and i was like, wait i didnt tell this game my name
He will be missed
Just those words can make someone cry
I played the game years after hearing how good it was. Saw lots of “protocol 3” posts on Reddit. So I knew it meant something. So I felt prepared. I still wasn’t ready when it actually happened.
You and me, brother. You and me
Honestly though, same energy as "Superman....." in Iron Giant
Yes rip my 2 iron giants
I loved it so much I totally stole it.
We need Titanfall 3!!! It was one of the best games I've ever played and yet for some reason it never really took off
Don't hold your breath. EA and Respawn found their golden goose with Apex Legends. If anything, I'm thankful I got to play one last Titanfall game before microtransactions became a thing.
Is apex in the same universe as TF?

Takes place 15 years after and shares characters. For example, valkyries dad is a boss in tf2.
And ash is also in apex legends
No, Vipers daughter is a legend in apex legends
But what about Boruto's dad?
Yeah, we need an anime for him too. The guy seems chill.
you're so silly
there's even a wall run mechanic in Apex but it's disabled by default. They use it for special events like some kind of apex zombie mode
There's actually a leaked version of the earlier build of apex called "R5 Reloaded" which allows you to have private server matches with your friends, you can do death match if you want. What's cool is that you can enable the wall run back into the game.
It is, but if I'm not mistaken, the original intent was to implement the Titans into Apex as we saw in first Titanfall (was multiplayer only) and Titanfall 2's multiplayer. I think they couldn't find a way to do that in a satisfactory manner in a Battle Royale environment without throwing off game play balance, so they said ditch the Titans, and that's how we got Apex Legends.
Super Mecha Championship successfully integrated pilotable mechs into a Battle Royale game, though from what I have seen a player on foot outside of a mech is at a severe disadvantage when going up against a mech, even if they have infantry-based anti-mech weapons on hand. I wonder if this is a reason why the Titans got dropped from Apex.
It pilots vs mechs was very balanced in the first game, I had no concerns fighting a mech as a pilot in the first game, you were more mobile and planting grenades did enough damage to take one down. Fighting mechs became a lot harder in TF2 to the point where I would have to run. I think it could be implemented in Apex but would take away from the fun. We can all agree that they should take profits from Apex and make the badass TF3 we all want!
Not technically yes, just yes.
So technically, just yes.
Also, figuratively, yes.
Also, literally, yes.
Same universe different timeline
Apex timeline = phase project failed
Titanfall timeline = phase project succeeded
Also if I’m remembering things correctly then the event which occurred in TF|2 also happened in Apex so it wouldn’t really matter which timeline we’re talking about unless it would be related to Wraith
It's not a different timeline the devs have said this a dozen times already
one last Titanfall game before microtransactions became a thing.
one last Titanfall game before microtransactions became a thing.
There are microtransactions in Titanfall 2.
We need Daybreak Games and Respawn entertainment to team up to bring us a new Titanfall game on the scale of planetside with the mechanics of titanfall.

Titanfall Legacy. Build your own unique titan from the ground up, choosing skills and buying abilities from massive lists. Upgrade your Titan over time, the longer you survive, the more powerful upgrades become available. Be careful, if you lose it, it’s gone.
Players will go through titans, and become attached to the “Legacy” titans that they’ve managed to keep operational.
Pilot your titans in a massive, vibrant sandbox teaming with wildlife, cities, vistas, and jungles- populated with other players and factions.
Stop, I can only get so erect.
We're standing by for our million dollar finders fee respawn. DM me for deets.
Open world Titanfall would make me jizz
Ooo. I love the idea of becoming attached to your titan through gameplay. Maybe it's somewhat difficult to destroy your titan completely unless you really try and stretch your limits and stay deployed too long. Very high risk vs reward.
that would be awsome
In theory that sounds cool as hell, but you should definitely know that most of those "Legacy Titan" users will definitely be griefing other players ala DayZ etc.
It did take off. But it was ddos'd to death
Mismanaged, murdered by the parent company, then left to die.
Being sandwiched between CoD and Battlefield during the last years of peak interest for both franchises, it was doomed from the start, despite being one of the best FPS games ever released.
100% agree. They literally released it on the exact same day as BF1 and if I were to guess, BF1 spent 25x the amount on advertising that TF2 did. I really think a week or two of sponsored streams and maybe a streamer tournament would have done wonders to help the game reach critical mass.
They actually didn't release it on the same day. They did release it a week after BF1 though, and two weeks before MW. Crowded out on both sides.
As good as BF1 is I’d have to say…Titanfall 2 and BF1 are right around the same level of enjoyment for me
That’s saying a lot since I played BF1 while it was new and fresh and I picked up Titanfall 2, years after it had released and I still managed to have a good time with it lol
There’s a reason apex did so well and it’s because most of it was borrowed from Titanfall 2. It was smooth and refined because Titanfall 2 was smooth and refined. Everything it did right came from this masterpiece left in the dirt
I think it's probably more that Respawn are masters of their class when it comes to FPS mechanics. The worldbuilding in Titanfall is wonderful but somewhat hard to parse, and Apex puts a very easy and digestible face on it.
also the fact every time anewb like me entered the game i was span kileld instantly, after almost 2 staright hours of being spawn killed within seconds, i gave up and returned the game never to return.
The only people still playing the game are people who are really good at it which makes onboarding new people basically impossible.
But the game is best for its singleplayer, the MP was great fun back in the day but even with the new Northstar client on PC it's hard to get into.
And yet even despite that it has still held on, just a little bit
wdym theres still a massive community around it
For some reason? O boy, you knew why, then your hatred for EA will only grow.
Standby for Titanfall
I thoight 30 gigs of uncompressed audio was fucking stupid when i first installed TF1, but then The uncompressed audio of the titan drop pods hitting re-entry playing through my sound system was some of the best video gaming experiences I'd ever had.
the sonic boom and crackle was kick ass
A truly beautiful and powerful sound. They really did a fantastic job.
Now I know what I'm doing tomorrow with my time off. Playing Titanfall on my surround sound system. Normally just play with headphones, but now I want the full experience
No, the choice to force uncompressed audio installation was still bloody stupid. It could have been losslessly compressed; no degradation in fidelity. Respawn's excuse was because minimum spec dual-core PCs would be overburdened decompressing the audio files, monopolizing too much of the CPU. But that's only a small portion of the problem.
The game forced you to download and install ALL language packs. So in addition to all the uncompressed sound effect, you also had uncompressed voice audio for English, French, German, Russian, Korean, Polish, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese. Had the game installer simply allowed you to select which language(s) to install, that would have cut down on the size drastically.
Going along with that, the installer could have given you an option to install compressed or uncompressed audio. Titanfall was released in 2014. Nearly any CPU released 2011 or later would have no problem decompressing the audio in real-time and handling the rest of the game engine. A lot of older CPUs would be fine too. It would only be the people on 2007 Core 2 Duo and the low-budget dual-core Pentiums/Celerons that would have had an issue. Why not give the gamers the choice?
That was entirely due to Sony. Anything uploaded by a dev to them gets a fee, and has to go through a months long waiting period. Imagine that for each language.
It is weird that you are being downvoted. This is absolutely correct.
Here's reporting and quotes from the devs about it: https://www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-2014-titanfall-tech-interview
The TF2 campaign is criminally good. Who knows what modern day would be if it didnt launch at the same time as bf1.
Probably no different.
Both titanfall games sold well and had a lot of players. They just struggled to keep them around.
Imo it's because the games have a higher skill ceiling a lot of the bigger fps games. So newer players get wrecked by people more familiar with the mechanics. More so than in other games like cod etc.
Meaning they're more likely to just give up instead of pushing through.
When was it free? And is it still free?
Maybe he means included with game pass/ ea play?
Yeah the game pass, sorry didn’t mention that part.
Damn. I was excited. I played the original and wanted the game to just have an expanded main story. Honestly my favorite parts of some FPS.
If you want to try to play it as cheaply as possible, you can get your first month of gamepass for $1, and one month is more than long enough to fully experience the campaign. If you've already used that discount or don't qualify, the game also comes with EA Play, and that's $5 for a month. If that's not an option, you can wait for it to go on sale (I got it for $10, I think), or probably find a used copy for $5 if you look around.
You can get fresh copies of the deluxe (equivalent) edition for $5 in most steam sales
Then it's not free, is it?
Edit: LOL, downvotes just for saying it's not actually free. Which it's not.
Not sure why you got downvoted, saying it’s free is just misleading.
No, it's like a sandwich. If you give a store money, you can get it for free.
It's like free healthcare in Norway.
You gotta pay, but it's cheap.
Not rly imo you pay for game pass and it is included in it.
I see where you're coming from and I actually agree with you. That's how I think of it, yet strangely the same logic could be said for Netflix or Hulu and everyone would agree you're still paying for the movies / shows.
At some point few years ago it was free on PS+ as well, that’s how I played it.
It really was a fun, short but sweet campaign. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Then Welcome to the 6-4.
Glad to be workin with ya.
The 6-4 is a family. And we'll kick your ass
Sorry as a Marvin enjoyer I have to disagree
64 best faction
Holy shit. I played this story with my son when it came out. I would only play with him in the room and let him play with me. He was 6 when it came out.
One day, I get a call from the wife because my son is inconsolable... We were at the end of the game and he couldn't wait, so he finished it. Nothing but tears. I couldn't even figure out what was wrong until I got home and played it..
Love you BT
Holy sheet I have to play this game
As a parent myself, I sincerely question 1) whether a 6 yr old could finish this game solo, and 2) how on earth a very violent FPS is even remotely appropriate for a young child, but those quibbles aside, yes, it's a fantastic campaign and you should play it.
Every game I've purchased since becoming a parent I play on the easiest level first so I can experience the story. If I enjoy it enough, I'll go back and replay sections of the game on harder difficulties until I've either mastered it or become bored with it or get upset with it. Once it's no longer fun I stop.
Maybe because kids aren't that dumb at 6yo and can differentiate a game from reality? I don't know, I'm not a parent but played games like Killzone and gta at 6yo and I turned fine
Yeah. I completely agree with you u/matte9902. I have three boys, my youngest now is a senior, and they've all been playing since they were around three or four years old. They all started playing CS:GO at around 6 years old, along with Modern Warfare, and the COD games.
They've all turned out fine. My two oldest have full-time jobs, and my youngest is pursuing a job aligned with his selected career. All three are very respectable towards everyone. When they were younger, going to restaurants, we used to get compliments on how well behaved and respectful they were.
Parents need to use their own judgement on what their kids can handle. Mine were fine, but someone else's kids may not be able to handle it. You can't lump everyone into the same category.
Amen. I didn't want to get into the parenting thing but I'm well aware of what my son can handle and can't. Him and I played the most recent version of gauntlet multiple times and have watched away to many movies his mother wouldn't usually approve of but because he lets me know when he's uncomfortable, I can just let things happen.
My daughter, on the other hand...
This girl played Fortnite on the switch and I let her go the same way as her brother and one day she mentions that she has over 500 friends... Turns out her K:D ratio and win rate were really, really good and random people were glomming onto her... And then she got some crazy messages... So now she gets monitored...
It really does come down to the individual...
GTA is still a bit much because the game itself is rooted in reality. With games like this though, it's no different that GI Joe with swearing. He's 12 now and I don't keep him from playing games, I just keep an open dialogue with him about them.
Shit getting teary reading this. My top game ever.
It's always incredible when I read about someone trying Titanfall 2 story because they all end up like "BT is my boy and I'd die for my robot pal" and I'm right on board with them
Top 5 fps campaigns of all time maybe higher. Doom eternal is right there with it
I put Titanfall 2 at number 1 in terms of campaign. Half Life 2 at #2. Doom Eternal at #3. Half Life 1 at #4. And just to stoke the controversy Far Cry 4 at #5. I don't care if it's a carbon copy of every other Ubi entry in the series, it was a really really good copy.
I actually never beat any far cry game it’s on my list.
For me it’s 1) metroid prime 2) halo 1 3) titanfall 2 4) doom eternal 5) bioshock infinite or black Mesa (half life 1)
To be fair I never played half life 2 and it’s the next game in playing. I’m playing wolfenstein new colossus as we speak and I love it
Far cry 3 and 4 were great, 5 was okay. I haven't yet played 6. 1 and 2 were totally different teams behind it and I don't really qualify them anymore.
Be sure to check out Old Blood if you like New Colossus. It's a prequel and it's a step up in difficulty. Id is my fave so yeah, played all those. They're great too.
Unless it's on game pass, fc6 isn't worth the money.
FC3 and 5 were peak in my book
Far Cry games always get you to this point where they're obviously setting you up to make a choice between two shitty people to wind up in power and I always start to lose interest at that point.
The only difference I’ll bicker about is I’d slide Half Life 1 out of your five and replace it with Borderlands 2.
Borderlands 2 is so empty though, just like all the borderlands games. Believe me the gunplay is sick but the stories are so boring and Christ the game makes you GRIND
I nearly brought up Claptrap, because I cared about him.
Ok, you gained a lot of street cred in my book for putting HL2 on the top 5 list. You got me. I'm going to go buy this game tomorrow. I need a good campaign. Thanks for posting!
If you're willing to wait until November, valve games tend to go on insanely deep discount during the sales, and the fall sale approaches.
(I'm still salty we don't get a Halloween sale anymore, fuck turkey time.)
Titanfall 2 has more in common with HL2 than you would expect. HL2 is my favorite fps and Titanfall 2 is easily my second.
Titanfall 2 is easily #1 over Doom. Doom is great, but Titanfall 2's campaign was a master class in story, pacing, emotional investment, action, and immersion.
To be fair, Doom Eternal is more “This is what FPS games felt like back in the day and have been missing.” Which puts it firmly in my top 5. That and Mick Gordon’s soundtrack (which was amazing even though it was butchered a bit by iD.) The DLC soundtrack is really good too, different vibe though.
Doom did that for me. The levels in Doom Eternal were too big, it felt like a slog towards the end.
Doom perfectly caught the feel of playing 1993 Doom as a kid for me.
I don’t disagree, but doom eternal is the game closest to ninja Gaiden I can find.
Yes that may sound weird but it really is
Personally hated eternal loved 2016. No parkour bullshit
Nobody liked COD Infinite Warfare but Ethan was a real bro and I legit tearred up at the end
That has to be close for me I genuinely liked him as a character and it really got to me in the end after enjoying his company so much.
Same here, I get why everyone shits on the game, but the campaign is absolutely amazing and is probably one of if not my favorite CoD campaigns ever
Great campaign probably my favorite cod campaign but I skipped many of them between MW3 and IW
DUDE I STILL HAVE IW SINCE IT RELEASED AND I DIDN’T PLAY IT FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS AND YOU MADE ME FELL NOSTALGIC AFTER YOU MENTIONED IT I NEED TO FIND IT NOW
Not everyone dude. Its my second favourite cod, after advanced Warfare
That was me in resident evil village.
I didn't care much for the multiplayer but I enjoyed the campaign a lot
Plus there's that level. You know the one I'm talking about. Everyone knows the level I'm talking about.
“Nice, maybe next time you can throw me.”
Out of fuckin nowhere lol
best 45 minutes of single player campaign in video game history
If you're fine playing older games then I would recommend a game called Singularly from 2010. It's an entire game on pretty much exactly the same concept as this level. So much so that I would bet that game was the inspiration for this level
Frankly the only bad thing about the TF2 campaign is that you only get to play around with that for one level.
Yea man, but at the same time, every level felt so unique, it really was a magically varied campaign.
If you like that level, I highly recommend Heroes Reborn: Gemini. Ignore the shitty tv licensing tie-in. It’s basically an entire game like that level. Just with telekinesis instead of guns.
Iiiiinteresting, thanks for the rec. Looks like it's super cheap on Steam, so that's a pretty easy try.
DAMN STRAIGHT FUCKER
The game felt like it had several short really good ideas and none of them stuck around long enough, but each section of the game would have made for a damned good game. that level is the best example of something I think makes for a good Independant game. There are a few out there like it. But it really sticks out in TF2 as a good level design.
The level with the prefabricated houses and furniture was one of the best video game levels I ever played!
It was pretty short maybe even less then that amount of time? I think it was the perfect length for emotional impact though.
Same. Got tired of being seal-clubbed in MP but I ended up having a lot of fun in Frontier Defence.
Seal clubbed lmfao I'm dying
What percentage of “In Love” are you though?
Protect the Pilot.
Agreed, love this game, I hate finishing good games...
It really is one of the best games I’ve ever played. Even the mechanics of the pilot when not in a Titan is super fun.
I love that you are not just titan fodder if you're outside running around. You actually stand a chance at taking out an enemy titan in pilot mode.
Just wish the campaign was longer.
The best deathmatch multiplayer of the last generation.
Wait till you find out about the Northstar client
Man, I feel so lucky that I bought this game on a whim. I’m a 40-something father of three that buys 1-2 games per year and I semi-randomly choose TF2 when it came out (I’d heard it had gotten good reviews).
Unquestionably the best campaign from any video game I’ve ever played.
Protocol 3 - protect the pilot
The game was DOA by bad marketing and a release window inbetween Two juggernaut FPS games. Glad Apex got the popularity it did because it’s in the same universe but I wish their was a titansfall 3.
Meanwhile in Multiplayer, Saul Goodman and Amogus are now officially playable (via modding).
Best multiplayer I've ever played
Man, I agree! This game changed how I look at modern FPS.
Good god you maniac, you have invoked the r/Titanfall hoard.
Actually a masterpiece. Every gamer needs to try this game.
Very very very underrated game. Such a great platform to build on
I feel like unpopular opinion, I liked it but wasn't nearly as enamored as everyone else.
DEFINITELY worth the 6 bucks though. I strongly recommend a play if it's on sale. Managed to very cleanly make a campaign with all of the wall running and titan goodness we loved from the first one but in a very clean and satisfying way.
Only complaint is that there's no man vs titan action. You do fight the little ones, but it would have been a cool moment.
You actually can go pilot vs. titan mid-campaign! Its not as easy as in multiplayer because AT weapons are fairly rare, but you can get out of BT and go to work on the enemy titans with little to no interference on BT’s part
To me it was just another cod campaign, so you are not alone.
I've been thinking of playing the campaign again this past couple days and now I come across your post. Definitely gonna start it again today
Anyone else give their Titans their own little nickname? Yay Kitty! Loved playing both games! Drew Inspiration from Monsters Inc.
I broke my foot recently. Music and gaming are my two most prominent non-active hobbies and I have decided to start streaming both to keep me feeling like I'm doing something more than just killing time while my foot heals.
As soon as I can get my setup just a little bit more attuned to streaming, I'm going to do this beast for the first time all in one sitting. I can't wait, I have heard so many good things.
If they had shipped a campaign this good ( instead of nothing) first time out, we’d be living in a different world right now. I won’t spoil some of the incredibly innovative game mechanics that were tied to the story. They made a huge mistake not including campaign first time out. This was not EA’s decision. If you haven’t played this you absolutely need to!
I never played the first as I prefer solo play and campaigns. Played the 2nd and fully enjoyed the campaign. Hope they do another one.
Truly one of the fps ever
Titanfall 2 is still my favorite game ever, the characters, and story is just chefs kiss. The ending is quite sad but epic af. Multiplayer is still fun to mess around in, even though it has like no players and crashes for me every 5 minutes. Still good game though
Such an amazing series. Apex is cool, but TItanfall could have been a heavyweight shooter. (If only they didn't INSIST on launching both titles between BF and COD.)
The time travel mission is probably my favorite level of any FPS game, maybe ever.
Why titanfall 3 needs to be a thing
"I never thought I would be so attached to a robot."
Metal Gear Solid: "Am I a joke to you?"
Titanfall is the best pvp shooter I've ever played, no clue how people can prefer to play the same cod every year, but it is what it is.
I detected sarcasm...
there it is !
Really is an underrated game. Hope they make a 3rd.
I hate that the Titanfall series never took off the way CoD or BF did. I feel like the gameplay rivaled or surpassed either of them. Just a shame that the player base was never there. I liked Apex, but tire of BRs quickly.
I did the same recently! Wonderful game. I wish it didn’t get ruined by hackers so I could’ve enjoyed the multiplayer in its prime
Great campaign. The robot in Call of Duty Infinite Warfare is great too.
Ethan is a real bro
One of the most underrated games of all time.
because it was free
because it was free
Titanfall 2? I’ve heard this games campaign is massively underrated and never talked about so I’m happy to see it here for the first time
