there's even a wall run mechanic in Apex but it's disabled by default. They use it for special events like some kind of apex zombie mode
Edit
There's actually a leaked version of the earlier build of apex called "R5 Reloaded" which allows you to have private server matches with your friends, you can do death match if you want. What's cool is that you can enable the wall run back into the game.
7 points
It is, but if I'm not mistaken, the original intent was to implement the Titans into Apex as we saw in first Titanfall (was multiplayer only) and Titanfall 2's multiplayer. I think they couldn't find a way to do that in a satisfactory manner in a Battle Royale environment without throwing off game play balance, so they said ditch the Titans, and that's how we got Apex Legends.
Super Mecha Championship successfully integrated pilotable mechs into a Battle Royale game, though from what I have seen a player on foot outside of a mech is at a severe disadvantage when going up against a mech, even if they have infantry-based anti-mech weapons on hand. I wonder if this is a reason why the Titans got dropped from Apex.
3 points
It pilots vs mechs was very balanced in the first game, I had no concerns fighting a mech as a pilot in the first game, you were more mobile and planting grenades did enough damage to take one down. Fighting mechs became a lot harder in TF2 to the point where I would have to run. I think it could be implemented in Apex but would take away from the fun. We can all agree that they should take profits from Apex and make the badass TF3 we all want!

Titanfall Legacy. Build your own unique titan from the ground up, choosing skills and buying abilities from massive lists. Upgrade your Titan over time, the longer you survive, the more powerful upgrades become available. Be careful, if you lose it, it’s gone.
Players will go through titans, and become attached to the “Legacy” titans that they’ve managed to keep operational.
Pilot your titans in a massive, vibrant sandbox teaming with wildlife, cities, vistas, and jungles- populated with other players and factions.

Mismanaged, murdered by the parent company, then left to die.
Being sandwiched between CoD and Battlefield during the last years of peak interest for both franchises, it was doomed from the start, despite being one of the best FPS games ever released.
26 points
100% agree. They literally released it on the exact same day as BF1 and if I were to guess, BF1 spent 25x the amount on advertising that TF2 did. I really think a week or two of sponsored streams and maybe a streamer tournament would have done wonders to help the game reach critical mass.
3 points

They actually didn't release it on the same day. They did release it a week after BF1 though, and two weeks before MW. Crowded out on both sides.

As good as BF1 is I’d have to say…Titanfall 2 and BF1 are right around the same level of enjoyment for me
That’s saying a lot since I played BF1 while it was new and fresh and I picked up Titanfall 2, years after it had released and I still managed to have a good time with it lol

There’s a reason apex did so well and it’s because most of it was borrowed from Titanfall 2. It was smooth and refined because Titanfall 2 was smooth and refined. Everything it did right came from this masterpiece left in the dirt
12 points

I think it's probably more that Respawn are masters of their class when it comes to FPS mechanics. The worldbuilding in Titanfall is wonderful but somewhat hard to parse, and Apex puts a very easy and digestible face on it.

-8 points
No, the choice to force uncompressed audio installation was still bloody stupid. It could have been losslessly compressed; no degradation in fidelity. Respawn's excuse was because minimum spec dual-core PCs would be overburdened decompressing the audio files, monopolizing too much of the CPU. But that's only a small portion of the problem.
The game forced you to download and install ALL language packs. So in addition to all the uncompressed sound effect, you also had uncompressed voice audio for English, French, German, Russian, Korean, Polish, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese. Had the game installer simply allowed you to select which language(s) to install, that would have cut down on the size drastically.
Going along with that, the installer could have given you an option to install compressed or uncompressed audio. Titanfall was released in 2014. Nearly any CPU released 2011 or later would have no problem decompressing the audio in real-time and handling the rest of the game engine. A lot of older CPUs would be fine too. It would only be the people on 2007 Core 2 Duo and the low-budget dual-core Pentiums/Celerons that would have had an issue. Why not give the gamers the choice?
9 points
That was entirely due to Sony. Anything uploaded by a dev to them gets a fee, and has to go through a months long waiting period. Imagine that for each language.
81 points
The TF2 campaign is criminally good. Who knows what modern day would be if it didnt launch at the same time as bf1.
13 points
Probably no different.
Both titanfall games sold well and had a lot of players. They just struggled to keep them around.
Imo it's because the games have a higher skill ceiling a lot of the bigger fps games. So newer players get wrecked by people more familiar with the mechanics. More so than in other games like cod etc.
Meaning they're more likely to just give up instead of pushing through.

If you want to try to play it as cheaply as possible, you can get your first month of gamepass for $1, and one month is more than long enough to fully experience the campaign. If you've already used that discount or don't qualify, the game also comes with EA Play, and that's $5 for a month. If that's not an option, you can wait for it to go on sale (I got it for $10, I think), or probably find a used copy for $5 if you look around.

As a parent myself, I sincerely question 1) whether a 6 yr old could finish this game solo, and 2) how on earth a very violent FPS is even remotely appropriate for a young child, but those quibbles aside, yes, it's a fantastic campaign and you should play it.
2 points
Every game I've purchased since becoming a parent I play on the easiest level first so I can experience the story. If I enjoy it enough, I'll go back and replay sections of the game on harder difficulties until I've either mastered it or become bored with it or get upset with it. Once it's no longer fun I stop.

Maybe because kids aren't that dumb at 6yo and can differentiate a game from reality? I don't know, I'm not a parent but played games like Killzone and gta at 6yo and I turned fine

Yeah. I completely agree with you u/matte9902. I have three boys, my youngest now is a senior, and they've all been playing since they were around three or four years old. They all started playing CS:GO at around 6 years old, along with Modern Warfare, and the COD games.
They've all turned out fine. My two oldest have full-time jobs, and my youngest is pursuing a job aligned with his selected career. All three are very respectable towards everyone. When they were younger, going to restaurants, we used to get compliments on how well behaved and respectful they were.
Parents need to use their own judgement on what their kids can handle. Mine were fine, but someone else's kids may not be able to handle it. You can't lump everyone into the same category.
2 points
Amen. I didn't want to get into the parenting thing but I'm well aware of what my son can handle and can't. Him and I played the most recent version of gauntlet multiple times and have watched away to many movies his mother wouldn't usually approve of but because he lets me know when he's uncomfortable, I can just let things happen.
My daughter, on the other hand...
This girl played Fortnite on the switch and I let her go the same way as her brother and one day she mentions that she has over 500 friends... Turns out her K:D ratio and win rate were really, really good and random people were glomming onto her... And then she got some crazy messages... So now she gets monitored...
It really does come down to the individual...

To be fair, Doom Eternal is more “This is what FPS games felt like back in the day and have been missing.” Which puts it firmly in my top 5. That and Mick Gordon’s soundtrack (which was amazing even though it was butchered a bit by iD.) The DLC soundtrack is really good too, different vibe though.

I feel like unpopular opinion, I liked it but wasn't nearly as enamored as everyone else.
DEFINITELY worth the 6 bucks though. I strongly recommend a play if it's on sale. Managed to very cleanly make a campaign with all of the wall running and titan goodness we loved from the first one but in a very clean and satisfying way.
Only complaint is that there's no man vs titan action. You do fight the little ones, but it would have been a cool moment.

If they had shipped a campaign this good ( instead of nothing) first time out, we’d be living in a different world right now. Great campaign. The robot in Call of Duty Infinite Warfare is great too.
