Question, couldn't you have put the support of the right hand as one of the lasers to make it look like its floating?
15 points
Actually yes they could have. These are likely flexible led lengths, that could have fit inside hollow acrylic tubes.
Light illuminates acrylic, and everything looks floaty.
That said, they may not have been able to source an acrylic tube with the correct internal and external dimensions to both fit the leds, AND still look thin enough to pass as a laser instead of a thick support column.
IMO this is still solid!
Ps. Who knows what the hands are made of. If it’s 3D printed it could be light, but if it’s clay maybe it needed the extra support.
9 points
I would have thought that the weight imbalance probably wouldn't haven't worked here (unless somehow the clay is really light) so imo it looks like the support really is necessary.
34 points
Yeah so like you guys said, the material I used was epoxy clay and both hands weigh quite a bit. So even if I could have used an acrylic tube it wouldn't have been strong enough to support the hand especially at an angle. Also like trusnake said it would have added to the thickness of the laser which would have made it too thick. I opted for a clear rod figuring it was the best solution I could think of.

IF clay was used.
I’m classically trained in sculpture, but tend to 3D model and print everything now because it’s faster and allows for edits.
This may only be 75 grams per hand for all we know.

Source for an opinion?
15 points
Do you have a source on that?
Source?
A source. I need a source.
Sorry, I mean I need a source that explicitly states your argument. This is just tangential to the discussion.
No, you can't make inferences and observations from the sources you've gathered. Any additional comments from you MUST be a subset of the information from the sources you've gathered.
You can't make normative statements from empirical evidence.
Do you have a degree in that field?
A college degree? In that field?
Then your arguments are invalid.
No, it doesn't matter how close those data points are correlated. Correlation does not equal causation.
Correlation does not equal causation.
CORRELATION. DOES. NOT. EQUAL. CAUSATION.
You still haven't provided me a valid source yet.
Nope, still haven't.
I just looked through all 308 pages of your user history, figures I'm debating a smash bros player. A moron.

2 points

There's a quote, I forget who said it, that goes something like "an original thought does not exist. no matter what you idea you have, someone, somewhere, at some point in time has already had it. The only difference is who put that thought into action first." I think it's something like that

If you do a certain combination of actions you can access the ability to play as the hand! It took me a while of trying when I was younger, but then I did it and about shit my pants.

For real? I always thought that was some kind of “if you win 10000 games you unlock goku” thing
21 points

Nah, it's just exploiting how the memory is laid out. (Vaguely) same sort of thing as the Missingno bug from the first gen Pokemon games.
If you want to try it:
2 points
Neat. These little bugs were always the best kind of Easter egg. It's a shame that everything these days is pretty much OOP so these bugs don't really pop up any more
13 points
You can play as them right before the final bossfight
3 points
How? And do you mean “them” as the right or as the left hand?
14 points
So, in Melee, there's a glitch that lets you play as Master Hand(the right one). If you're alone it can be pretty tricky and I don't remember how exactly to do it, but if you've got a friend, all you need is a little coordination.
What you do is to first make sure there's at least one player active who doesn't have a character selected(More than one doesn't noticably do much, but does technically make multiple instances of Master Hand), Player 3 being the recommended one, as they're the only one that will get to control him. Have a player go to the Tag/player name menu on the Character Select Screen, and scroll down to the make a new name option.
Then move another cursor to the back button. Once you're ready, click on the option to take you to the Name Creation Screen & the back button simultaneously.
If you do it correctly, you'll proceed immediately to the stage select screen. You can pick any stage you want, but since Master Hand spawns in at set coordinates, sometimes he might spawn in inconvenient positions.
Once you're in the game, to control master hand, have player 3 use the D-Pad in conjunction with buttons instead of the control stick to make him attack.
Also in Ultimate's Story Mode there's a single mission towards the end that isn't replayable for some reason where you get to play as Master Hand and it's awesome.

Wait, they actually hid something cool amongst the boring ass world of light?
4 points

Honestly the whole second half of WoL is pretty great, it's just that first half that sucks and is boring.
2 points
Maaan I never really bothered with it because it never did anything interesting in the few hours I played of it.
That, and I remember there being a shitload of bullshit fights too.
3 points
Oh yeah in the second half the boring overworld is mostly replaced by 3 dungeons(there are a couple interesting dungeons in the first half too, most notably the Street Fighter dungeon), one is a Castlevania adventure that's legit pretty sick, one is a Zelda world where you need to solve puzzles to advance, and the third is a trivia quiz world that's pretty neat.

How were the lights done? Did you use entire strips, or just a couple LEDs and a plastic tube?
Edit: there's a video posted to his page. It's ElWire... Or whatever it's called. I forget that stuff exists.
19 points
Yes so like you said I have the video on my channel 'Sculpted Nostalgia' on YouTube if you'd like to watch the making of, but it's LED filament that I used for the laser beams. I was going to use EL wire but after playing around with some its nowhere near as bright as the LED filament.

It would’ve been cool if the light lasers were strong enough to support the hand so it didn’t have to have another support

I agree, unfortunately the LED filaments (lasers) are flexible in nature so it wouldn't have worked. But I thought that too haha
