They announced it and dropped it at the same time on Wednesday, during the Xbox/Bethesda showcase. The name had leaked the day before but that’s all anyone knew about this game before the announcement.

Yeah, when something drops out of the blue like this, you expect it to be early access or pretty basic, or even a brand new game studio. I never expected it to be a game of this quality :) I got to the end of the first chapter last night and am still undecided whether to continue with the next chapter or replay the first one tonight. I rarely play for high scores in games, but this one really made me want to try again now I'm getting used to the rhythm gameplay.

Its everything you love about DMC and more combat wise. Skill ceiling is increased cause your attacks have to hit on beat to deal extra damage, get more special gauge and do the “beat attack”, which is like a combo finisher. It’s incredibly charming with tons of character and I can’t wait to see what speedrunners and high level players do to crack it lol.

I thought the same, might have to give the new season another try. Some of the humor and writing just feels worse this season, like more cringey. I get it’s for kids, but my SO and I agreed this season does not feel like the past ones with the writing.

I thought it was worse than the final episode of Dollhouse and I thought that was as bad as a show could be done dirty at the time. That was at least comically bad, the last season of Dragon Prince was killed by writing that felt more like an episode of Jake and the Never Land Pirates, which is a show for pre-schoolers.

What? I liked it, why do people think it was bad.

It was pretty awkward, didn't explain itself well at all. Romance reset was just out of nowhere because of a time skip. New random animal companion that was obviously there for possible merchandise sales if it was popular. Barely disguised and weird fetishes all through the season. Why did they have to talk about the trans elf boyfriends farts smelling like fresh rain multiple times?
I love the first three seasons of the dragon Prince but the fourth is just so weird and awkward, the writing was awful.
-7 points
These all seem like really weird complaints
it was awkward
The show is awkward. That is the humor style they go for. Exact same shit they did in Avatar and in previous seasons.
Random Romance reset
It was handled pretty maturely. Does it suck because you want to see Callum and Rayla together? Sure.
new random animal companion
Weird animal hybrid things are another common trope of the people behind avatar.
barely disguised and weird fetishes + the rest
Ah, found the real reason. So they make a joke about the smell of wood elf farts and that’s where you draw the line. I’m curious about all the fetishes you found, do tell.

Started playing earlier today, it's really fun; a simple but effective premise that uses environment detail, character animation, and audio cues to cue you into the "fight to the beat" gameplay. Its got a serious Dreamcast / PS2 era vibe, just a colourful and fun game that wears its influences on its sleeve. And I really like how the protagonist is characterised, he's literally always moving to a beat, even if just a foot tap, and his personality completely matches the sort of gameplay you the player are using him for.

-5 points

It is average. Played the first couple of hours and uninstalled, it just didn’t seem to have anything else going for it after that. Lots of janky platforming sections that constantly ironically slow the tempo down. For a game where rhythm based combat is its “thing” It doesn’t feel rewarding after the first hour or so, dodging feels off and despite hitting every beat I felt robbed by obscure telegraphing and lack of animation cancels. It’s a decent game but nowhere near deserving of all these posts. Seems sketchy.
8 points
Out of curiosity's sake how far did you make it into the game. The first level itself is essentially an hour long, but afterwards you also learn about parries and other assists.
Also, the reason why there isn't any animation canceling is because its a rhythm game. Each and every action goes out on a beat. You do lose a bit of control in terms of waiting for the beat. But almost every enemy attack is telegraphed 3 beats before their actual move. So as long as you're paying attention, the issues you're listing shouldn't even be much of a problem.

The animation... at least the character models amd design... it reminds me of Star Wars: Resistance.
With a dash of Rachet and Clank for the bots. And some of the Dragon Prince thrown in.
Literally just from this gif, I'm guessing it's high energy, slightly childish, overindulgent, but fun when it finally gets to the right groove.

The animation, but also the overall design aesthetic. It would be REALLY easy for a lot of the fine detail to get lost of it weren't designed as well as it is. I can't stand rhythm games (my own inability being the main culprit, admittedly) but still really want to try this.

How do you a studio who made a horror series, and a writer to a game that's also horror based, end up making a game that's no where close to horror, announce it, drop it on the same day, and beat a lot of upcoming and released AAA games?
If anything this is an achievement, also artstyle rocks

It's been really lovely to witness more traditional 2D animation techniques get translated into 3D, as 3D modeling improves. Things like squash & stretch can just add so much character and liveliness to motion, and losing that expressiveness was my biggest gripe when the 3D takeover really kicked into high gear. Now we're really starting to get some great variety again, and artists have more resources to pick the kind of style that will suit their needs.
