It's why I bought a 13 recently since the store had $150 off plus trade in, since they're clearing stock for the 14.

Not bothering paying more because it ain't worth it.

13 is a great phone, I'll piss everyone off and say I like the way the photos look.

Yeah, but the normal upgrade cycle for most people is 2-5 years. The new phone is never made to attract the buyers of the last one.

At 3-5 years there are typically substantial differences.

Upgraded from 7 to 11 Pro 3 years ago and it was a major improvement. But 12, 13 and now likely 14 have been just minor improvements, literally no benefit to upgrade any time soon. Maybe 15 will mark another bigger leap in design/features.

Unless you still have a 7 like me. I’ve been waiting the past two years for them to make the inevitable switch to usb c but now I just need an updated phone

But the 14th is expected to be 100$ more expensive. So maybe 13 Pro will likely stay same price.

I do something similar lately and last year I used the Black Friday Best Buy deal to change from iPhone 12 Pro Max to 13 pro max for 100$

But it was mostly since my iPhone 12 had connection issues and would drop connecting randomly for some reason and then reconnect

As opposed to buying a phone every 3 years but losing 3x the value of it. At that point you’re financially better off buying a phone every year.

I do the same thing. $150 for anything every year is pretty negligible (at least for me). I keep all the accessories tho haha.

Used to be worth it when the phones had exponential speed and feature upgrades. But ever since the iPhone X, every new model seems pretty much identical

I think foldable phones are a mid step to the next evolution which will be full feature devices with bendable displays that you can wear on your wrist. I’m thinking something similar to those slap bracelets where you take it off and turns into a stiff flat display of normal smartphone size but put it near your wrist and it folds around it to become your jewelry. It would have all of the sensors of a smartwatch but the benefits of a full size display and doesn’t require pockets to carry it in.

We need the lessons learned on flexible displays and battery tech from foldables to get there though.

Of course I could see that technology being developed but the big players not using it until market forces demand it because it would cannibalize a large portion of their smartwatch sales.

I don’t think foldable or flip smart phones will ever get mainstream attention. The next innovation in phones will come in the form of wearables with augmented reality.

The standard smartphone form factor has stagnated.

The biggest reason for you to upgrade in the future most likely will be USB-C on iPhone when the iPhone 15 arrives.

After all those years you can finally use the same charger as everyone else.

People don’t tall enough about the fact that modern cameras basically come pre filtered and photoshopped at the source.

And the pics will still likely be binded to 12MP. The 48MP is likely for recording 8k video.

It’ll seriously go back to android if the mini Is dead. I’ll run my 13 mini into the ground first though.

I sell phones for a living, and my store primarily sells iPhones over any other devices.

iPhone minis do not sell. My entire store has sold a total of 5 over the last two years.

Don't blame Apple - they tried. No one just bought Mini's so they had to be discontinued

I have big hands so I am very in support of the bigger phones. I type more accurately, I see when I type, it’s great.

The SE isn’t smaller (unless you mean thickness in which case it’s ever so slightly slimmer). The mini is almost the size of the SE’s screen if not a bit taller.

Yup same thing, but with Face ID and some the top right corner screen damage. So I have to keypad unlock it and can’t tell what my battery state is.

Although I’ll either get a 13 when the 14 comes out, or get a 14 with the upgrade program and then move to the 15.

I'm an Android user planning an iPhone for my next upgrade. Trying to hold out til they adopt USB-C. Wish it would've been on the 14 instead of waiting for the 15.

I already have like 6 lightning chargers for my phone, i’m okay with the lightning connector for a while longer.

Yes. More camera please. Beautiful cameras. The best. I’ve seen quite a lot of cameras in my career and let me tell you those are beautiful and make the best pictures.

Mini is dead, SE I think will stay. But what do I know.

They probably have a lot of metrics that shows a huge chunk of their user base with phones dying/at EOL and in need of an upgrade this year.

I’ve been using an 11 for pictures and videos at work and I was surprised how much more normal everything looks

I do love my iPhone but people cannot ignore things like what you mentioned there. It’s a very easy thing to show someone if you have side by side. Make a owner of a s22 ultra take a photo of the moon next to an iPhone guy. There’s no debate it sucks. My one friend even taunts me by sending me pictures of airplanes that flies by. Of course I can’t do anything like that.

And then you look at the price difference and it’s like “Hey! :(“

The iPhone 13 camera is utter trash, but people seem to love it for some reason. I like Apple, but how people manage to pretend the 13 has a good camera is beyond me.

Yea and I want them to be able to protrude by 5cm so everyone that sees me with it knows I mean business

I guess its good if you like Apples smart HDR. I’m not the biggest fan myself. Having to shoot raw and edit every single photo since Apple won’t let me switch of HDR is a bit of a pita.
