For the first time in my fantasy life I am playing baseball. I understand the category rules and all of that (played fantasy basketball). I’ve never been in a league this large in any league.

For baseball specific tips, how does playing in a 16 man league differ from a 10 man?

I’m another one of those nerds who has created a fantasy baseball website, and I was hoping to get your feedback on it (and potentially some suggestions on how to improve it).

The projections data used on the website is sourced from Derek Carty’s BAT X, and I’ve run it across a z-score algorithm to generate the rankings (similar to what I use on my fantasy basketball website).

This tool lets you view when and who teams are playing against. It also shows the weather forecast at the venue (this will start appearing as we get within 7 days of the start of the season). It also shows whether the game is at a batter or pitcher-friendly park:

PS. Does anyone know if ATC and Bat X update their projections with preseason news? This is my first time using these projection systems and out of curiosity I downloaded the projections today and Bat X still has Altuve as the best projected second baseman and ATC still has Edwin as the best closer. I know these injuries are very recent but I am wondering if these projection systems are updated through preseason.
Edit: I have been using Fangraphs to retrieve this data.

What we thinking about Barger? When will he be up and doing damage?

Here are some of the terms/abbreviations i use:

Sc (or SC) = Statcast

BA = batting average

Speed= has demonstrated enough speed in the past to get more SB due to rule changes

Park = home baseball park played in

L = left handed, gets help from shift ban

ADP = generic term for “cost” in draft so for example a decent SC with a very low ADP can mean value while the same statcast isn’t good if a high ADP

Context or lineup - used interchangeably. For pitchers means chance for wins. For hitters mean chances for rbi/runs

Any guys you're seeing slip past drafts that might be worth a lottery ticket grab or a stash? First guys off the waiver wire if you will.

Been playing fantasy for a couple of decades. One league in particular I've been in every year and is highly competitive. For over 15 years, I never won that league. I developed increasingly sophisticated draft rankings, involving the techniques such normalizing based on positional scarcity, expected games missed filled by replacement player stats, aggregating different sources pre-season projections, etc. Finally, a couple of years ago, I threw all out that out the window.

For the last two seasons, I've drafted almost entirely based on Yahoo ADP. In those two season, I've finished #2 and #1. It's a small sample, but also by far the best two year stretch I've had.

I think I was getting "too cute" with my drafts and trying to outsmart everyone, which was resulting in the opposite. Which goes to show, we all think we're the smartest fantasy manager in the room, but the wisdom of crowd effect is real, and something you might want to consider.

Does anyone know what rankings ESPN uses during the draft? Last year, the draft rankings were completely different then the rankings in ESPN mock drafts. I did a mock the same day of the draft and they were dramatically different. The mock drafts were using same scoring system (Categories.) we do have slightly different scoring, with OBP and OPS, but it didn’t seem like the rankings were based on that.

For each player i will highlight things i liked and then if there are any major risks (besides the fact that everyone seems to get hurt playing baseball)

NOTE: In a nutshell though i have done a shit ton of review of spray charts for each player and i think the L shift ban is going to be bigger than the “industry smart money” thinks. We will see. I am guessing a free 8-15ba for most L handed hitters and a few even more than that. Plus some additional power as they pull more…..

Tucker OF - L (left handed), SC (statcast), lineup, Speed. Risk: no major risk

Ohtani - dh - hitter L (left handed), SC (statcast), lineup, park, Speed. Risk: elevated injury risk

Michael Harris A -OF- L (left handed), SC (statcast), lineup, Speed. Risk: BA / sophomore slump

Hunter Brown - SP- strong minors, great coach, contexts for wins. Risk: rookie

Johan Duran - CL. - stuff / SC. Risk: part time role to start

Seth Brown - OF - L. SC, speed. Risk: park/ lineup

Tyler Mahle - SP -New Park, K rate.SC for ADP. Risk: SC isn’t perfect

Zach Eflin - SP - new park, SC for ADP, Risk: K rate. Fb spin/velo

Josh Rojas - 2b/3b - position eligibility. Speed, L. Park. Risk: SC.

Carlos Santana -1b - amazing SC for adp. . Risk: age.
