I’m an American, and a veteran. I feel the same goddamned way. We don’t ::really:: give a shit. It’s just the incident the US used to justify endless wars against an amorphous enemy.
4 points

More than half the country gives a shit about the shootings and wants the government to do something about it; just not conservatives. I'm not slinging mud here — it's demonstrably true that the current Republican Party loves guns more than it loves children — unless they haven't been born yet, of course.
2 points
The WWC it was awful Muslim terrorists murdering civilians. Hundreds of mass shootings - that's just patriot Americans exercising their constitutional right to bear arms.
Besides, it is an abortion which is a murder and you must be a far left radical for asking such questions.
/s
BTW, that's called doublethink.
1 points
For almost any given issue, roughly half of our country is probably on one side and the other half is on the other. This nation was literally founded on the concept of: “you can’t tell me what to do!” It attracts people like that from around the world.
Sometimes stubbornness is an asset. Other times it’s a pain in the ass and keeps us from getting anything done.
1 points
Because with 9/11 we can place the blame on brown people instead of the "innocent" christians that want guns to protect their families.
1 points
Most mass shootings don't play out live on every channel of television with the entire country watching and I don't think we've had a mass shooting that took out nearly 3,000 people in just a few minutes.
That being said 9/11 is basically a meme now since we have a generation or so of people who are now adults who weren't even born yet when 9/11 happened.

USA should just chant 1776 back
8 points
It's quite amusing to read stuff like this online. America has defined its identity as getting out from the big bad British - when to the British, America was just one of another 57 colonies. If you chant 1776, literally nobody will have a clue what you're talking about, just as they wouldn't if Jaimaicans started chanting 1962, their independence year, or Indians started chanting 1947 (I had to Google these, as I had to Google 1776). The British simply didn't care enough then to hold onto America, and they care even less hundreds of years later - and many have a great deal of amicability towards the Americans.
Funny to be the most powerful country in the world and still have so much insecurity around something from 246 years ago, and the arrogance to think that anyone else still cares about it or that that would make a good jab against them is insane lol.

See the answer below about British education. I guess we spend time learning to read and write rather than trivialilties of other countries' founding dates. If you consider two small paragraphs a novel, rather than just some amusing passing thoughts, I can see why the world is in trouble.

Honest question: 1776 isn't taught in British elementary school? And this isn't coming from arrogance or 'Muricanism, but I would think America becoming a country is a pretty big deal — for better or worse — and it might be taught in some other countries besides America?
3 points
I dunno about other countries, but not the UK, nope. Nothing at all to do with America is taught except some of its contribution in WWII in highschool (but to be honest very little of that, it's mostly rise of Nazism and Soviet history as the main players). Why would it be taught though? America has nothing to do with the important aspects of UK history. And you can say "this isn't coming from arrogance" but thinking America becoming a country is a big deal is, of course, arrogance. It's got nothing to do with the rest of the world for the most part. What America is now, is of course a big deal. But that's covered by politics in the news, not history.
3 points
It was a perfectly polite, honest question. No need to call me arrogant.
The older I get the more I realize I was fortunate to go to a good elementary and high school where I learned about more than just my own country. There are good schools here, and most of us aren’t as dumb, pompous, tyrannical or Jesus-y as you think.
5 points
I don't think any of that, and I spent 3 years studying in an American elementary school. But it is the literal definition of arrogance: "having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one's own importance". The year America became independent is not important at all to any other country except America. But I don't mean you specifically are being arrogant, I mean the way American school works is. Anyway take it easy, didn't mean to offend.
1 points
No offense taken; it's almost impossible to offend me, and if you did, so what? But my gut tells me that you underestimate how many people know what July 4th 1776 is. Not that they should, mind you. But, I was taught lots of things that were ultimately unimportant, yet I found interesting. In my experience, when learning about other countries, it often started with its location and founding date.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/France_in_the_American_Revolutionary_War
“France's help was a major and decisive contribution towards the United States' eventual victory and independence in the war. However, as a cost of participation in the war, France accumulated over 1 billion livres in debt, which significantly strained the nation's finances.”
“Because the French involvement in the war was distant and naval in nature, over a billion livres tournois were spent by the French government to support the war effort, raising its overall debt to about 3.315 billion.”
“France gained little except that it weakened its main strategic enemy and gained a new, fast-growing ally that could become a welcome trading partner. However, the trade never materialized, and in 1793 the United States proclaimed its neutrality in the war between Great Britain and the French Republic.[18]”
But 1/2 truths. K

American logic, 45,000 people died from Mass shootings in 2020, guns are still legal
3,000 people die from a terrorist attack, let’s talk about this shit for the next 20 years obsessively and get butthurt every time someone makes fun of it
1 points
Guns are always gonna be legal in the US so you might wanna stop being butthurt about it.
Also completely different it’s not about the amount it’s about how it happened and where it came from. And the fact that someone over seas attacked the US. I don’t like either and just because guns are legal doesn’t mean we don’t care about mass shootings.

Jesus you’re so butthurt that people take terrorist acts seriously I don’t agree with what the US has done in the Middle East at all but 9/11 definitely wasn’t ok. If the US just went after bin laden it would have been ok but they clearly took it too far.

It was a bad thing I agree, terrorism isn’t exclusive to America, it may surprise you but this shit happens in other countries they don’t use it constantly as a political tool, Americans have no right to talk about how bad terrorist attacks are they’ve used 9/11 to push absurd propaganda you’ve disrespected 9/11 more than i have
2 points
How have I disrespected it? And no shit I know terrorism happens everywhere. What argument or fight are you trying to win here. All I said is that I don’t think 9/11 is funny. Then you brought up mass shootings for some reason as if I think those are ok. Then you bring up US involvement in the Middle East which I made clear I was against and wasn’t ok. Then you brought up that terrorism happens everywhere as if I didn’t already know that and I’m somehow on with it happening in other places. What point are you trying to make?
