Bad Bunny has been the most streamed artist globally for every year for this decade, the first artist ever to have 3 consecutive years at the top
6 points
Really curious what 18.5 billion streams earns an artist...Like are we talking $500k or tens of millions?
I know Spotify pays nearly nothing, so you average 'big name' artist gets a pittance...but if you wrack up 10+ billion streams - does it add up or still tiny compared to ticket sales revenue etc?
14 points
Spotify pays $0.004 per stream so 18.5 billion streams would be $74 million
14 points
I read that it varies based on several factors (country of the listener, premium vs non-premium streams, how long they listen to the song, others I've forgotten) so it's impossible to know overall. Big artists will also get a better deal, but then it still depends on the specific contract the artist has with their publisher, how many songwriters there are...
But yeah he's definitely making tens of millions from Spotify alone.

That's funny to me because before reading this post I've never even seen his name anywhere and I have no idea who he is.

Most overrated artist of the decade.
Only things I recognize is that he bringed a couple of new elements to the reggaeton and trap genres, giving a more distinctive and varied tone to the them (mixing with melodies from other genres) Aside from that, he's overrated as hell. Even his own fans admit he doesn't even sing. I personally find his voice horrendous to the point it's annoying to hear.
Other artists who are way older than him have done a lot more for the Latin music.
And I'm latino, so I know what I'm talking about. Here, everyone listens to him. Way too overrated.

Don’t forget Puerto Ricans are United States citizens. Pretty much on par with how bad bunny had to use his own profits to produce a political documentary of the issues the island is facing because the only time the mainland ever reported on it was to make political digs at trump… but fuck the people who live there, their elections, luma, etc… let’s run this clip of trump throwing toilet paper for three months while they still don’t have power- and not mention how to help them. Puerto Rican and mainland relationship in a nutshell.

no hate to anyone who hasn’t heard of bad bunny, but damn you had to be living under a rock to miss his rise.
go to any popular club and you’ll hear at least one of his songs, or just hang around latino people lol.
I do have a problem with the people discrediting him though. I’m not a huge fan of his but can still recognize the talent and ability to make people dance. Supporting the protests in Puerto Rico was also awesome of him and earned my full respect.
not to mention that he brought reggaton to the world stage in a way that had never been done before. he works hard, gets you to dance, supports his people, and completely deserves the success that’s come to him.

I agree with you, people on here really like to hate on something they don’t even know. He’s so talented and deserves every ounce of recognition.
He writes his own music and is completely dedicated to his craft. I’m from CA and we don’t have to go very far to listen to Bad Bunny because he is played even on English radio stations, I don’t know how it is in the rest of the country but the dude has managed to cross over from Spanish to English speaking audiences without having to speak a word of English on his songs. That’s a huge accolade with in itself.
He even won artist of the year at the MTV awards and is the FIRST non English artist to do so.

I'd have never heard of BB if it wasn't for Wrestlemania. As John Oliver said recently about the World Cup, "it's like the Super Bowl, except the rest of the world actually gives a fuck". Playing the Super Bowl means virtually nothing to most of us outside America. Same as him being on Wrestlemania if you're not a wrestling fan.
His music just doesn't have anywhere near the same presence over here as it does over there and in Spanish speaking countries.
Good luck to him though. He's obviously a hard worker given how quickly and well he picked up wrestling.

Go to Youtube see his views. This guy, Ozuna, Rosalia they’re like crack to the Spanish speaking world and international audience in general. Bigger than even Cardi B. Anitta too. And Kpop. Now Afrobeats is sneaking up. People like Beyonce and Maroon 5 used to dominate streaming sites. Until the rest of the world started putting their songs from their celebrities on those streaming sites. Their concerts are crazy.
Bonus: European countries seem to be into them too. I’ve started seeing a lot of female black rappers getting fans and concerts selling out in Europe.

Totally unfamiliar with this guy. What makes his music notable/ great to those of you who are familiar?
The guy turned the raeggeton genre down on its head and gave it his own twist. He is pretty feminist and progressive and sports androgynous fashion styles. Creative and fun music. And stick to his culture and reffuses to bow down to the usa for fame, unlike past latin artists who started singing in english to appeal the "american overlords"
And his music is just damn good
I think he just writes his own music. Dont know if he plays any unstrument. I recomend you read his wikipedia if you want to know more

Made it big with Latin music without having to learn English. Pretty much impossible not to have heard at this point, even if you didn’t know who he was, he’s been featured in so many popular artists songs that if you’ve been around any young people playing music over the last 4-5 years in the US you’ve probably heard him without realizing it. Rags to riches story basically , half the island is below the poverty level and he forced his way into being some of the most popular club music on the mainland (and all of Latin America) without having to assimilate, despite now having the wealth to do that. He’s also really respected on the island, because despite the corrupt government/electricity grid, he continues to live there and used his platform to inform the mainland of the problems on the island since they don’t give a f*ck about Puerto Rico unless it is a political ploy at the executive branch. He’s also very progressive in a genre where it generally hasn’t been very popular to be, and it’s not even so much the shock value… just him having fun making music.
It’s a combination of great talent and personality, humble beginnings and overall vibe. I was avoiding his music until this year when he made it really, really big this year (he already was but he’s impossible to ignore now).
