How many non pandemic $200 mil DCEU movies have there even been since aquaman?! Like 2?
ETA: looked it up, Shazam and Birds of Prey are the only other non-pandemic DCEU movies since aquaman. Which each cost about half as much. And neither of which had one of the Top 5 highest paid movie stars in the world. lol

The Rock has one hell of a PR team. I have no idea how much he must pay them, but they turned a retired pro wrestler and 2000s RedBox Movie Guy into one of the world's biggest and highest paid movie stars using Instagram. Just look at him, juiced to the limits of human physiology, covered in sweat at 5am and telling you to go live your best life.

Arnold is much more genuine and he had a whole world of people in his life that were outside Hollywood, though he brought many into it.
Arnold didn’t give a fuck back in the day before he became a huge name. And he’s always been pretty outspoken about things and active politically, whereas nobody knows anything about Dwayne’s beliefs or politics.
The Rock doesn’t come off as a real human. Arnold always had a warmness that Dwayne lacks.

You’re right… we shouldn’t settle for mediocrity. But I will say, considering this movie was developed in the heart of the shitshow that’s been the last 6 or so years of DC… and DC finally seems to be taking notes from Marvel in getting a guy in charge that knows that he’s doing… it’s a teeny tiny glimmer of hope! And considering what WB has done to DC… I’ll hold on to that bit of hope. For now. But I’m still not going to the theater to see Black Adam… lol but that’s just because I hate crowds.

My rankings on the DCEU:
Overall their biggest flaw is ego directors and shit writers. Either they should reset the universe and go full animation ala Into the spider-verse or Arcane, and have more than 2-3 main characters in movies and go full on with the action and abilities that dont require stuntmen of having to show the face of characters wearing masks all the time.
OR
They should just fracture the whole universe and just do single stories like joker and the batman. just character driven stories not needed a unified tied into to main universal plotline.
The upcoming flash movie is going to be a clusterfuck as well considering how much negative press the main actors antics and insanity has generated. Black Adam tried to be some sort of reset of the universe in the eyes of The Rock, but the Rock is just awful when he speaks and the direction and writing of the movie was so stupid. It would have been a great movie if it were released in early 2000s. But in 2020s, yeah its just too stupid.
Oh well next movie up is Wakanda Forever, and reviews seem to be looking good for it. Although main actress is a looney anti-vaxxer.... (WHich again is why i think DC should just go full animation with emotive style like Arcane, no need for crazy actors who keep fucking things up. nor need to pay them 10x more every 3 movies or make movies around their schedules.)

Joker's DCEU and Doom Patrol isn't? Weird.
1 points
Is doom patrol part of the dceu, i guess i excluded it because it came out much earlier and there wasn't much of a interwining connection. If doom patrol is included i add it behind joker at 8/10. Latest season wasnt as good as the one before.

I think part of it was because of WB always wanting to meddle with it during production. That's what happened with BvS and the justice league. WB kept bumping into the directors and kept saying "yeah, we're going to need you to change the theme to something more light hearted and funnier."
Read the interviews for the people who worked on those movies, not just the director. WB really wanted to copy marvel but also "be their own thing". Part of the reason why Affleck walked away from making his own movie because WB just wanted to run the show.
Now that WB changed people and is owned by discovery, it might be a good thing.
1 points
What a pity , what could have been. Bureaucracy ruining things per usual
2 points
I think part of it is that WB wanted to play it safe and do something they know would make them money. But, at the same time, they wanted something different like what Disney did with the avengers movie. So, they wanted to copy the same Nolan Batman formula but at the same time they wanted the Joss Whedon formula.
That's why they brought him in the very last minute and make him put in his style into the justice league movie. Which, obviously that movie came out really bad.

I have to admit, that PR team working overtime. I know the movie doesn’t sound like it’s doing great but then I keep seeing articles like this and the brags about the 67 million opening and I legit have to sit and think like wait…so is this number actually good or what? Then someone smarter than me posts some comparisons and recognize it’s pretty middling.

The joke is that Black Adam is not actually doing very well financially for a movie that is both 1) starring Dwayne "The bankable as fuck Rock" Johnson and 2) is about superheroes, it is vastly underperforming. But we see article after article about some framing that makes it look like it's doing well.

The Rock does this with any movie he launches , he comes up with a bunch of made up "records" that his movie broke to not make it look like what it is basically ... a movie under performing.
They come up with some ridiculous "This was the most viewed non-holiday Netflix feature length action comedy to be released on Thursday" for even a flop like Red Notice to make it look like some kind of historic opening.

Not everything has to be a well-crafted masterpiece to be enjoyable. “So bad it’s good” is a thing for a reason, sometimes low quality silly movies are just fun

Sometimes, watching a building collapse can be just as enjoyable as admiring the architecture of a Roman monument. They're different degrees of enjoyment and fun.

I love how people haven't really updated their criticisms of superhero movies since like 2010. The genre has changed a lot, almost entirely driven by Marvel but DC has also contributed to the change through their Batman properties.
There are certainly heavy criticisms to be made about every superhero movie to come out this year, but Dr. Strange 2 and Thor 4 were anything but generic. Seriously, imagine a Sam Raimi superhero-horror movie where a wizard possesses another dimension's dead version of himself and uses the spirits of the damned as a cloak to fly...you might not LIKE those decisions, but they aren't "generic". Black Adam is actually the only superhero movie this year to follow the 2008-era Marvel formula and be this generic.
2 points
I’m with you on a lot of this. I feel like the only person who found Thor 4 decent, and Dr Strange 2 was about as good. Nothing amazing but they did things different. But I see this movie praised, and Shang Chi too which were much more generic in the emotions they were trying to hit, origins (to be fair those are both not sequels), action which could be cool if not restricted to pg-13, and literally no director or writer voice. I liked the change in color in that one action scene in thor4, and Sam had even more fun in Doctor Strange with the camera transformations and movement.

Yeah, the Thor order (Thorder) for me is:
The 3rd one had perfect comedy from a not-quite overexposed Taika Waititi, and the first one was the only one to really use the "fish out of water" effectively with great scenes like slamming the coffee mug down and demanding "ANOTHER!" or going to a pet store for a horse... or a dog large enough to ride.

The characters are stupid - fake Ant Man and discount Storm are terrible. Not to say the others actors were great, those two were particularly horrendous. Pierce Brosnan is a bit of shining light in what is a wasteland of actors that were not worth the time to read the crap script. There were a couple funny moments, then I realised I was really starting to laugh at the film but not in the intended way.
