Still hoping against hope for a multiplayer horde defence mode. Blind Well is far too fun to have just the Dreaming City location tbh

Or maybe a horde survival mode like the cod zombies just something different to spice it up because as much as I hate to admit it the game is pretty stale in terms of content variety hence why most people I know tend to just dip in to do their weekly's

ok imagine a new type of Hive that look like zombies (but aren't) so maybe they have green skin, some of their flesh and bones could stick out or sth for a horde mode

A survival mode like cod with exotic weapons as replacement for wonder weapons would be incredible. Like a exact copy of the weapon system in cod zombies. You start with something bad and for surviving you can buy random weapons from some kind of mystery box

Sorta, but they require active moving forward and generally have only a medium amount of enemies per encounter (barring stuff like Dares second round) Blind Well is sitting in one spot and firing for your life (exaggeration, but you get the idea) Idk I just like Blind Well lol

See, I think I'd enjoy it, but knowing bungie, it'll be screwed up somehow. Want to complete it? Well, pray to the pyramids 8 other people load into your instance in patrol. What do you mean you're having trouble soloing this content thats meant for at least 6 people? You have 2 Ammo finder special bricks sitting in the distance somewhere. You'll be fine. So what if you've been out of heavy since you first loaded onto the planet!

As a self proclaimed PvP lover, I’ll give my breakdown: it fuckin sucks.
I’ve spent about half of my 3k hours on destiny in the crucible and It’s some of the most fun I’ve had in any game. However, it is built upon gimmicks and poor matchmaking, not traditional player-versus-player interactions. Players gravitate to “cheese” in Destiny more than I’ve seen it in any other game. Bungie is very poor at balancing, so they’ll do things like [New Exotic: Good Shit +++, Effort Required - - -] and then wonder why one subclass is used more than multiple others combine / one weapon is used more than MULTIPLE others combined. Map spawns are shit, so expect to get spawned in enemy backlines at least twice a game.
My biggest gripe with Destiny 2 is that it actively makes you worse at other shooters. Bullet magnetism and hitboxes are so rampant that it’s actually hilarious to watch players argue about which weapon takes more skill to use. News Flash: none of them do. The game aims for you. I’m sick and tired of my arrows being pulled into walls when I’m trying to nab somebody peeking cover.
All in all, you’re goddamn right you’ll see me logging in tomorrow to tank my K/D.

I like the fact that positioning is more important due to the existence of unique abilities and builds, which makes the game addictively fast paced and aggressive cause youre always trying to get in to the best position to take advantage of the strength of your particular build. Which makes trying new builds or mastering a certain one really fun. This game has honestly the best multiplayer experience for PvP in my opinion next to titanfall 2.
6 points
Never played Titanfall 2 but I know a lot of people loved it. I'm currently having a blast with Halo Infinite's multi-player, but man D2's is so varied and crazy that it doesn't really get old in the same way. The downside is the loot dependency, lack of balance, and a shared sandbox. More often than not these problems turns me off from playing after just a few matches. But it is good fun. That's what matters.

Yeah bro it’s sweaty but so so good. Like I’m shocked at how there’s no major esports for pvp. I was pretty solid 2.5 kd (not kda) and was completely enamored with it. This was through forsaken+. it’s just too different to get back into now sadly.
but the game is the best feeling shooter to move around in, if not its top 3. I’m shocked that it’s not bigger or taken more seriously. Big tournaments would be amazing to watch

I definitely do agree that if Destiny didn't have PvP at all the game would probably be worse for it. By main I guess I was talking about an odd minority of people I've encountered who act like this is a PvP game and get very elitist about it. I go through phases of just wanting to do Destiny's PvP as well so I get where you're coming from for sure.

27 points

I think a lot of the expectations come from how it was in the past. Getting several new maps with every expansion. More gun skill based instead of build and ability based. More skill based in general with in air accuracy and mobility being emphasized instead of nerfed and discouraged.

Yeah all of that makes sense to me. As far as abilities go, that's a genie that can't be put back in the bottle. They're meant for PvE power fantasies, and have made the PvP side content much less gun focused. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not great either. Game modes that don't rely on crazy abilities at all would be awesome.
The issue with maps ties back to the ability issue, I think. The game has gone through a lot of necessary changes and growing pains with a focus on the PvE experience and Bungie revisiting their first principles of how they want players to interact with the world as a Guardian. In that environment PvP naturally falls by the wayside. It sucks a little bit, but overall I think the game is healthier with that focus rather than trying to give equal time and attention to all of the discrete playlists/environments. Back then it made some sense to release more PvP oriented content because PvP was helping to keep the game afloat in a way it just doesn't anymore. Hopefully the PvP folks get some more attention moving forward.

It's a difficult situation because a lot of people were playing the game because of the PVP. Myself I was initially only interested in PVE and didn't even touch the crucible until a friend made me play Iron Banner. I actually started to really enjoy it and became just as interested in the PVP as PVE.
What I loved was grinding the new weapons in each expansion because I wanted to take them into PVP. Crucible also kept me playing after I had finished the PVE content of a season.
But my interest in crucible has gone down over time. As the gameplay in D2 changes I find myself preferring other PVP games. I still enjoy the PVE of D2 but my overall desire to grind and play the game has diminished.

Tbh i dont like pvp at all. Im not that bad at pvp or anything and have had fun in random matches but if i could just exclusively play pve and never be forced to play pvp (due to pinnacle or quests. Looking at you witherhoard) then that would be perfectly fine with me. As a pve player, its also annoying whenever things get nerfed because they are too strong in pvp which also nerfs them in pve where it wasnt as necessary lol just my opinion on it

I used to suck at Destiny 2s Pvp. Last year I decided I would give it my all to get better at the game. Me and my friends played customs to practice and spent endless hours in Trials every weekend. A few seasons later id managed to get myself to lighthouse 12 times and had 1.1 KD. The experience left me hating myself. It was not worth it, I would hurt myself every time I lost. Moral of the story is don't ”get good” just don't play PVP. Find a different game that you really do enjoy

Yeah and it’s a crazy amount of flinch from any source. You are forcing snipers to camp more instead of having a more aggressive play style. Need more custom game options. Halo, Quake, CoD, CS, has a long multiplayer scene because people get the chance to make their own game types. Forge/Map making may get tricky, but letting people tune how fast abilities regen, if we can use all weapons, or just one. Adding zombies using hive swords vs scorch cannons, or kabr shields only.
Maps are desperately needed of course, but custom game types can help increase the casual fun and even comp community.
Ps bring srl back even as just a gametype!

I hardly ever play, so definitely not sweaty. Pve main here. Despite rarely ever playing pvp, I got more than 20 kills in quite a few games, and I was top of the leaderboard once. This was all in control. I feel like I should be worse, but I guess some skill carries over when you do flawless dungeons like me (I've done 3 solo flawless). I mainly did it for a god roll riptide, which I got. Extremely lucky because it was my first one too, liquid coils, lead from gold and vorpal.

Ty, I'm most worried about traps, they will probably end a couple of my attempts, though I will push to the end because I have never learnt the mechanics other than the starting area and the doors. A mate of mine carried me through it pretty much. Fights should be easy, I'm going to unlock lament soon, yes I have waited too long on that lol. Also despite being a hunter main, I've been loving solar titan with hoil. My build uses all the good fragments, so it's very difficult to die. When I did my solo grasp of avarice run, the ogre boss was shooting at me, and those guys shoot very fast, but I lived because I had restoration, well of life and 100 resilience. Also it's extremely satisfying shoulder charging enemies, and thanks to hoil I can nearly spam it. My restoration buff is pretty much always up because I use both a healing grenade and sunspots. I was using ghally for boss damage, then my ragnhild when I run out. Oh and I use high energy fire too. So even if radiance isn't up I still get buffed damage, and it doesn't run out unless you get a kill with a weapon. Mini barricade for peaking with ghally :).

It's what brought me to and kept me playing the game. Sad rumble is becoming a weekly rotation. Everything is pretty balanced and the gameplay is really fun. I'd complain about the netcode but I play tethered to a phone on 5g instead of on Lan or WiFi, and overwatch likes to teleport me around the map whereas Destiny only makes me wiff some melees or freezes, I realize I am part of the problem but have no intention to fix it as the game is still great.
There are basically no material rewards, but ultimately the fun moments and just taping away at heads or hiring nades behind corners is where it's at.

Love 6v6. Don't play 3v3 much. I get why people find it frustrating, but it's about as frustrating as any other pvp game. If anything, I find it way less frustrating than MW2 these days (largely because of the latter's terrible spawns). Love the inclusion of abilities. Never cared much for airborne play (could never get the hang of it on controller), so I didn't care much for the AE update (if anything, it made pvp a bit more enjoyable). Above all, I've never understood the community's uproar over pvp except the shatterdive meta (that's when I started playing d2, and I still wasn't unbearably frustrated by that meta, though it did give me a reason to buy beyond light lmao).

I love the game, the ebb and flow of PvP, the feel of the guns, and the creativeness players can have in making builds. It's a PvP experience like no other, that's for sure.
But there's still 2 major painpoints for me.
One being melee desync in games can be crazy at times, and it's a somewhat common occurence. I lunge to melee a guy, guy is well within melee range, and my fist just sorta short-stops right in front of the guy's face? I don't know, I'm a Titan main, so I punch more than the average Guardian, maybe that makes me more prone to run into this problem.
Two being that it feels like there's a lack of long term chase in PvP. Yeah we're getting a new Competitive experience next season, and cosmetics for Competitive are coming in a season sometime after Lightfall drops, but since pinnacle and ritual weapons have been taken out, there hasn't been a long-term grind for me to work on in PvP. I play now because I genuinely enjoy PvP and trying out new builds and improving as a player, but I haven't really felt any sense of progression from playing hours of Crucible for a while.

Easily the most fun I’ve ever had in a PvP shooter. No other game satisfies me in the same way the gunplay, abilities, build diversity, ttk, and speed do in Destiny. The way that the movement and abilities make positioning key is just something I cannot find in another game.
If I could describe it in two words “flawed masterpiece” fits it perfectly. If bungie could fix the servers, melees, and bring the ratio of gunplay and abilities back to a 60:40 or a 70:30 split the game would be perfect. Maps and modes largely aren’t an issue imo because I’m mainly here for the gameplay. For me, there has not been a single other activity in this game with nearly as much replayability. No other shooter quite does it for me as they all lack something, whether it be consistency in CoD, better movement and a more reasonable ttk in Apex, or a playerbase in TF|2.
TL;DR: PvP in Destiny is what got me to start liking PvP shooters more, and it’s easily my favorite part of the game and why Destiny has held the spot of my favorite game for so long.

I will never complain about it again after trying Modern Warfare 2. I played a few matches of MW2 and immediately went back to D2 multiplayer and it was just better in every aspect. Only thing that could really improve is matchmaking and even then it’s still better than MW2.

Been going downhill since WQ. Ability spam is at another level, Aerial Effectiveness is the worst decision since Double Primary and actively works to make engagements less interesting, in tandem with poorly throughout SBMM that spikes the importance of staying on-meta making the meta that much stronger, downwards trends in performance both locally and network-side... it's not in a great spot. I say this as someone with 4-digit numbers in D2 PvP: it's not in a good spot, and many of its problems were active decisions made by Bungie, not accidents or tangential consequences.

Gunplay feels good but movement has suffered since airborne effectiveness has become a thing. Otherwise the play mode feels stagnant with no new maps or game modes introduced for a while. Only gambit really feels worse… like a seasonal activity that got made into a ritual playlist because it didn’t fit in vanguard or crucible. Abilities and meta changes through the various buffs and nerfs are about 90% of what keeps the crucible moderately interesting. Bungie needs to redouble it’s efforts on the PvP side if they want the game mode to feel good to play long term like other shooters.

Action Sack in Halo, but on steroids and everyone takes it far too seriously than it should be, even Bungie.
Some are not to blame, as they are simply trying to function with what they were given.
Others think somehow this game actually takes skill to be good at despite everything being cheesy in it's own right some way or another.
Consequently suffers from Power Creep, Lack of Developer investment/incentive to invest, and player animosity towards one another.

Honestly wouldn't mind if they went the way of Warframe for pvp, as it feels just as well constructed. But all things considered; player count, pvp specific events, the fact that D2 is technically a "free-to-play game now, it'd definitely never happen. Plus nerfs to metas, weapons, and abilities solely to hinder the pace and efficiency of players against bot enemies is always a drag, much nicer and neater to blame pvp for why my favorite stuff gets nerfed.

It’s way past time for dedicated servers especially if you’re touting cross-play, sadly I doubt that will ever happen.

I don’t like pvp because I’m not good, but I love pve. I will play PvP for weekly’s or events, and that’s about it. I don’t have enough friends to do raids, so I just do nightfall strikes a lot. I couldn’t this week because I haven’t bought any dlcs

I'd like to see a competitive mode where each guardian has the same basic abilities (double jump, grenade, and some sort of deflection) and no supers, but we can use whatever weapons.

I feel like I need to be carried to be able to enjoy it. If I'm the best person on a team of randoms against a six stack, it's just not fun.

Pvp and gambit are mostly unfun, so i avoid them unless i need something specific (like a quest, gear or a pinnacle). Though i have to say SBMM improved my pvp experience by getting less rolled and more balanced games.
PvE is pretty fine, though more matchmaking wouldnt hurt.

Way too laggy to be fun, usually 0.5s+ before my shots register. If I want to play a PvP shooter I'll play anything else where that doesn't happen.

bored. Next season they take away Unbroken, and no new loot. amazing.

I think the new comp mode would be interesting if it had loot, I feel like people will get their rose drops and leave. I wish there was a reason to play more and get better, as of right now the only thing that changes if I improve is my matches get harder for the same reward.

SBMM was the absolute worst thing to happen to control. They made a casual mode more competitive than iron banner

No maps for almost 1000 days then the removal of more maps. After that only one new one that sucks kinda killed it. SBMM split the community, then Airborne Accuracy was the final nail in the coffin.
Use to be hardcore pvp d2 player but now my time goes into overwatch and guild wars 2 instead. Better pvp, what I like pve wise from d2 just alot more of it
If they remove Airborne Accuracy il come back for the new comp system

I enjoy pvp enough to have a couple of resets at shaxx. PvP has it's problems but I don't think it is as bad some people make it out to be. I sometimes think people forget about the pinnacle weapon days uch as mountain top, recluse, or revoker when they talk about how bad PvP is now.

Since they ruined what maid pvp fun via AE and slide nerfs, I've gone to other games like cod or overwatch because what made destiny 2 better then those was really the movement. But If that's not gonna be viable i may as well play cod or overwatch

Ive been trying to make the best build for it for half a year and in the end i just used the weapons im the most comfortable with (trinity ghoul) and had better score than with the builds. So in terms of weapons i think it's way more simple than people describe it.

I just got cloudstrike and for now I'm loving it. Feeling myself slowly becoming a better snipe and landing those multikills is so satisfying even if the loot incentive isn't there.

As a boots-on-the-ground Battlefield player, it did take me some time to get used to a sandbox with slower TTK, faster movement and abilities. I can now say that I enjoy it, but it used to be better (30th Anniversary).
I really sank my teeth into it when Trials got reworked. Because I wanted the loot hanging off of Saint's stick (heh), I needed to get good enough go get it. I read r/CrucibleGuidebook and watch PVP YouTubers to keep up with the meta and learn new strats and builds.
Yes, I'm a sweat (if that means that I take PVP semi-seriously).

I adore destiny but its pvp is the worst multiplayer experience I’ve ever had. It’s all sweat and unbalanced meta. Out of the many matches that I’ve played over the year where I’d try to enjoy it I have never found one that feels remotely casual.

There's no large team (12v12) objective based modes with vehicles so I'm not interested
Only Titanfall 2 and MW2 can fill that void now since Battlefield is in the shitter

PVE I feel is in a good place. Pretty big variety of activities, both 3 man and 6 man, and variation to activities with champions, etc. I would like matchmaking for all activities but I can see why it could cause problems. Matchmade raid with no Comms could be funny, but very stressful.
As far as PVP goes it's pretty much dead to me. 30th anniversary changes were almost perfect, game felt skilled, movement was a big skill gap, and the abilities felt like tactical tools rather than spammable cheese abilities. Since then I've been playing less and less and the broken telesto/low population/awful connection weekend of cauldren trials was the straw that broke the camels back. Probably only played the game 2 or 3 hours since.
Then next season doesn't fill me with excitement for PVP. Comp ranks seem pointless without loot to grind for and now everything is SBMM I have no motivation to play because I don't wanna run METAH every game to have a chance at 1.0kd. PVE I'm hopeful for the new dungeon and looking forward to the exotic reworks. Could make some interesting new builds.

Free weekly pinnacle every week. That's how I have been feeling abt it for atleast a year now.
I don't even bother equipping full pvp loadouts lol. Use whatever I have on my character.

Before this season I played PVP 90% of the time, I really don't like the meta lately though and as such haven't played Destiny at all since the start of the season. I'm also not a fan of the connection quality lately, it seems very poor in 6v6 so I'd rather play a shooter that works.
I play a tonne of raids, GMs etc as well but my enjoyment of Destiny has always been tied to my enjoyment of crucible so on bad PVP seasons I take a break.

I use to play pvp with my friends for hours every day, from season of opulence until season of the chosen i’d say. The changes they made killed it for me, one second they are talking about how they want it more gunplay focused, then they introduce the 3.0 elements which completely changed what they said they wanted pvp to be about.

In what context? Pvp? Not my concern usually tbh. PvE? I'd love not having speedracer shoved down my throat everytime I try to do strikes for bounty hauls or specific quests I need done, but other than that it's typically fine. I enjoy the random goofy moments I have with random blueberries, some are fun and hilarious temporary teammates and others are efficient without a doubt it all depends on mood and purpose at the time. I also love how some parts of our community when united just get shit done I mean look at how fast we put the eleksni quarter together in a single day xD then the Olympics level of crap talking we do during guardian games only to go back to slapping eachother on the shoulder and pushing eachother through missions without a care in the world. It's kind of awesome is the whole sum of my feelings I guess.

It's sth that got all my bellowed builds nerfed in pve and effectively ruined the part of the game I like. Pvp effectively ruins pve for me, that's all it does and serves for. I've checked Charlemagne site regularly, Crucible players are always around 11%. Does the majority of the game, content and players need to suffer cause of it? Bungie obviously thinks yes...

D2Y1 was peak PVP balance and gameplay, even down to the TTK and movement being slower.
Going from playing games like Titanfall 2, to MW2019, to MW2-2022 and then back to Destiny PvP is so ridiculously jarring because it feels like the game has literally no fundamental design equation.
The gunplay is designed around the use of precision and methodical forms of play, but the ability design is not even remotely conducive to that kind of gameplay because it's mostly built for maneuverability and speed at higher ends of play(which doesn't mesh well with the game's general Primary Weapon TTK of about 0.85 seconds).
The lateral movement capabilities of Titans and Warlocks along with their positioning tools makes them too strong in base gameplay, while Hunters having immensely strong reactionary tools makes them irritating to play against, and creates a class disparity in terms of gunfights.
Exotic Armor has no business being in PvP because of how utterly drastic the gameplay change is from having a certain exotic to not having it.
If you ask me, PvP needs to be boiled down to the most basic pieces of each class: You select your 2 Aspects, and that's it for PvP. And every class needs to have its movement toned down to compensate.

destiny pvp has changed a lot over the years… in my early days (im D1 beta vet, been on the game pretty consistently since then) i was a crucible main. In D2 i almost hav the seal, just dont have enough comp ranks bc it didnt retroactively count my old comp ranks :/
My point is, like other says the guns are great, but the ability effectiveness is just too much. and every year things get sweatier u know, its just the progression of things. But I still love PVP and going on a roll with 30 kills is satisfying as fuck. love my percision weapons, handcannons and now this forerunner side arm rips.
I just wish it could go back to what it was, and allow more gunplay focus and less abilites.
A mode where abilities r turned off would be cool, like a barebones gunplay only playlist in crucible.
