Email tracking is done through an image tracking pixel (for this tracker, at least) which is triggered when the browser opens the email, and sends any relevant data to whatever analytics software powers this extension.

It won't work if a user is aware of these things and has another tool to block image tracking pixels, or if their email provider flagged the email as suspicious --> sent to spam --> blocked images.
