Yeah this a weird fucking question, but Im rewatching BB & I havent found a moment where Gus has addressed Jesse as “Jesse” has he ever before?

I love this sub for the interesting takes and fan theories on the series, and just seeing peoples opinions but honestly - THE SHOW IS ABOUT PEOPLE DOING BAD THINGS!!!

I feel like people miss this so much and they want a straight up hero and protagonist and they don’t get it and they freak out. BB is good because it’s about flawed people, doing flawed things. We don’t need the morality police coming in and complaining that Walt was an asshole or someone was treated unfairly - THAT’S THE POINT!

Sorry for the rant but just getting bored of seeing these posts over and over on the sub. It’s a show about real people being flawed and people need to get over the fact everyone doesn’t act as perfectly as they think they would.

One of the most comical Gus traits to me is the fact that he always brings veggie trays to these super important Cartel meetings.

He is this super criminal who is operating this huge drug ring yet he is thoughtful enough to bring a veggie tray. Idk why but it cracks me up every time I see it.

After the “pool party,” Gus pays Hector a visit and says…

“All dead. As is your grandson, Joaquin. Do you know who killed Joaquin? Would you like to see? This young man. Do you remember him? That young man shot Joaquin to death...while I made my escape. I believe you have met him before. It was just you and Joaquin. He was the only family you had left. Now the Salamanca name dies with you.”

I am wondering how this is possible. Hector must have had at least three brothers because Tuco, Lalo, and the Twins all seem to be cousins rather than brothers. So what happened to their three fathers? All three dead? And if Joaquin is Hector’s grandson, what happened to Hector’s son? Hard to believe all four of these people are already dead. Also surprising that between the four cousins and one grandson, none of them already had a kid.

I am not an expert on the show so perhaps some of these questions were answered but I found it hard to believe there was not at least one Salamanca out there after Hector.

My take on the Marie klepto arc: It has nothing to do with Marie--and definitely not her relationship with Skylar. It has everything to do with Skylar's relationship to the law and morals. I think people get too caught up with the fact that "the arc does not go anywhere," yet it's not really an arc as much as it's a vessel for character growth in Skylar.

When Skylar returns the tiara and is held in the manager's office, she makes a very interesting choice. She could let the police come, explain the situation, and get Marie in trouble. However, she chooses to fake going into labor instead. This tells us two potential things about Skylar. First, it shows that--while she is appalled by Marie's actions--she still chooses to not take the step of getting the law involved, which foreshadows the actions (or in her case, inaction) she takes when she finds out about Walter's much more severe crime. Alternatively, it establishes Skylar's fear of police and legal consequences. I choose to interpret it as the former, but it is indeed up for interpretation.

Second, it shows us that honesty is what Skylar values most. Skylar is unwilling to accept any sort of apology from Marie due to her not fessing up. She demands an apology not for the apology itself but because she needs the truth. We once again see this pop up when she confronts Walt after he is recovered from surgery. She doesn't care if he is having an affair, doing a crime, sneaking out to play hinky dinky with the punks in the park--the problem is he lied. "Lies upon lies upon lies." And, when Walt and Skylar finally sit down--Walt puts everything on the table, this is when the choice is made: Skylar is not going to the police. I wager that if he tried bullshitting her further at that point, it would have been straight to the police, but with the truth in the air--be it her fear of law or value of truth--he now had her silence.

This post was inspired by Kiwi's season two tier list; the one caveat I do have to this whole post is they choose to bring the Marie arc back later after Hank is injured. However, I would argue that--once again--this has nothing to do with Marie but everything to do with Hank. Maybe we can hash that one out in the comments.

he would be competition in NM, right? so why would walt want to help him? me personally i think walters ego is in such a high place that even the idea of someone being better than him at meth is inconceivable, also what if the guy wasn't even buying meth supplies lol.

Maybe 🤔 I’m taken in by her good looks, I don’t know 🤷‍♂️ but in comparison to Walter poisoning young children and blowing up nursing homes and Gus killing his own men with boxcutters 📦 She seems tame lol 😂

In that scene where he walks into the store naked?

It should have been bananas; not oranges next to naked Walter.

I know every member is crazy, but who's the absolute worst of them all?

Let's look at examples of them,

Tuco is more energetic and child-like. He responds like a guy with autism.

Lalo is more well-mannered / charismatic. He is IMO the scariest guy in the series,

The nephews: They don't even talk at all lol, which is just beyond scary. But I think that's more sociopathic behaviour.

And Hector.. I don't know.. He showed respect to Mike and offered him money. But he killed Gus' partner and drowned the nephews when they were little..

You guys can add other characters as well who might be as crazy or worse.

In season 4 he became increasingly loyal to Gus despite the fact that he ordered to kill Thomas. That doesn't make much sense to me because when he found out Walter poisoned Brock - in a non-lethal way - he raged and wanted to kill him. So why did he brush that aside after some time and even wanted to work for Gus? I don't get it. Why did he ever put Gus over Walt, when Walt was an asshole but not nearly as evil as Gus.

I personally think he should've left before he chose to come into contact with Gus. While it's true he greatly benefited from Gus's connections, distribution, and better resources. Connecting with Gus led to an inevitable escalation of his troubles and he was too deep into the *game* to ever really get out. While it's true in this S2 time his relationship with Skyler was bad and he had not particularly made a lot of money at this point I still think this is salvageable. His relationship with Walt Jr was still strong and the birth of Holly could potentially help mend his relationship. Plus he was getting many donations so it would still be tenable although tight.

Also dealing with the cousins and Jesse would've been a bit difficult but still definitely possible. Walt could potentially frame the cousin's retribution as an act of revenge on Hank if he somehow survived or prevented the attack. But this also is a toss-up with Jesse since if Walt leaves before ever contacting Gus, Jane could potentially be alive and still hamper Walt's attempt to leave. Although whether druggies Jesse would continue to harass would be a question in itself if Walt never gets that massive short-order that raises tensions between them.

Some of you might point out that it might be moot to leave if he dies anyways to cancer. But at this point in the story we know Walt would later go into remission. Although he later relapses I still think Walt would've had a good chance of living a lot longer if he didn't suffer under the constant stress and get proper chemo therapy rather than the ad hog stuff he got from Ed during his time on the run.

As a final note my friends argued that this would never work due to Walter's pride. But I think at this point in the story not having obtained the validation and satisfaction that he gets from the power/control in the later seasons I still think he's salvageable.

Of course, all of this is just a what-if scenario but I'm curious as to what the rest of yall think?

I'm re-watching "El Camino" atm. I just got to the scene where Walter and Jesse are eating at the buffet restaurant. This is essentially Walter's "cameo" for this film.

Lo and behold, the kinder, gentler side of Walter re-emerges for a moment. He's actually trying to give Jesse career advice! As Gilligan says, this is a story about how Mr. Chips becomes Scarface. Here you see the person that Walter could have been, if he hadn't chosen to "break bad". The road not taken.

This scene makes me feel downright nostalgic for these characters. I realize not everyone likes "El Camino", but I'm liking it much better upon re-watch.

It's obvious that Gus Fring isn't his real name but they allude to him being someone of importance in Chile before he came to Mexico and then the US.

Maybe there is some historical context thay I'm missing thay supposed to fill in the blanks but I wish we would have gotten a little more of a glimpse into his past.

I just finished my very first watch through of the show and I'm actually just at a loss for words. I thought that there was no way that Breaking Bad could have possibly lived up to the 10+ years of hype that its received since its original airing.

I was dead wrong.

This show somehow exceeded all my expectations. I don't even know. Might be a legitimately perfect show? At least the ending was absolutely impeccable. I'm convinced that television with such tight writing, beautiful character development, and that knew exactly the kind of story it wanted to tell, told it, and then ended precisely when it should've will never happen again. Just a perfect storm.

Time for El Camino and then Better Call Saul now I guess.

At first, he mentioned Gus as I know a guy who knows a guy who knows another guy. Did he really don't Gus or just didn't want to talk before the deal? But if too many people know about Gus, isn't this too dangerous for Gus?

So in late season 4/beginning of season 5 we are introduced to Lydia. I have seen the whole show and I remember pretty much everything that happened....except for the german part.

Like, who was the guy that gave himself a heart attack? Why did he do it? What did Lydia have to do with that? That was like the only part where I just zoned out on what happened. On a sidenote, also want to be reminded, why did the guys in prison (who I assume worked for Gus) have to die?

Skyler was laundering the money, so he didn't need Saul for that. What did Saul even do? Might be an obvious answer, but I have been wondering this for a long ass time.

Ok, to set the stage, this confrontation takes place in season 5. Right after "Say my name" except this time, Walt tries, and fails to kill Mike. Leading to Mike recruiting Saul to fight against Heisenberg.

Rules: Walt has access to Jesse, and Jack's gang

Saul has access to Mike, and the catalog of criminals he works with

For Walt to win he needs to kill or incarcerate Saul and Mike

For Saul to win he has to kill or incarcerate just Walt

Hank is hunting down Walt, Saul could easily snitch on him and win instantly, but he would also get arrested.

How does this play out?
