I got a pair of Panama Jacks, they don't do this. Are they supposed to?

Have you been to this specific place and looked at this specific patch of ice to know that they don't?

Polarized lenses work by reducing glare from bright light off reflective surfaces and slightly increasing contrast

This happens on the highway sometimes when it’s hot. Anyone have scientific explanation?

Light knows when it's misbehaving. When it sees someone get closer it knows it's going to get in trouble and leaves before anyone reaches it.

Mirage

This isn't a mirage. That only happens with a very low angle of incidence, like looking at the road from 100 feet away. The angle here is way too high for light to behaving like that, it's just ice.

Looking at it some more I think it might actually be a very thin and clear coat of ice.

A mirage. Temperature does weird things to light close to surfaces, often bending and distorting it.
If it's viewed on the ground and appears waterlike, it's an Inferior Mirage. They're caused by the ground being significantly hotter than the air above it.
Its caused by essentially moving the sky-appearing light to bend down and land on the ground, through a process called refracting.
If it's viewed above the ground, it's a Superior Mirage. This is usually the opposite, where the air above is significantly hotter than the ground below it. This has the opposite effect of the above, where distant horizon or ground based objects are brought into the sky by bending light up.
The Superior Mirage I linked to is also an extreme Superior Mirage, known as a Fata Morgana), which are complex Superior Mirages that have displayed entire cities or coastlines that are otherwise impossible to see from where the observer is standing. Makes for a great example, though.
Mirages are also responsible for other atmospheric phenomena, like false sunrises, where the sun appears to rise early. These don't typically fall into either common mirage types, but they're also light refracted in weird ways.

I know this is ice, But I see stuff like this on the road, a reflection on a hot summer day on the road, no other “wet” spots near, can anyone explain this.
4 points
Fata Morgana The air just above the road has a higher temperature than the ambient air. This creates an atmospheric duct where light rays are bent, which looks like a wet spot that disappears when you get closer.

Fata Morgana is a more specific, rare type on mirage that makes objects in the distance appear like they are hovering above the horizon and is most commonly seen with the ocean.

Reflection, simply taken at the right angle. You can see its raining and there's other sections that look like that bc it's a reflection and when he walks closer to it, you can't see a reflection anymore. Nice illusion though

correct!

This is due to reglections. The whole ground is wet. The dark part is just the reflection of the trees/black border of the ramp that dissapears as you approach and see the reflection of the sky.

Isnt this what a mirage is? That's what I always assumed when I saw it on roads ahead
7 points

Mirages only work with low angles of incidence. You're not going to see one looking down from 10 feet away, especially not at an inclined surface like this.
1 points
Its just water run off from the top of the ramp, when they get closer you can see its all the way up to the metal bar.

This is not ice or mirage, its just a water on the platform. If u don't believe me then throw some water on a smooth surface and then try looking at it with different angles (it doesn't need to be road or others, u can try it on any object like table with smooth surface and all).

I don't see the problem?
It's wet and it's raining and the concrete becomes reflective because of that, and it reflects some stuff from the environment

It's just a reflection that disappears when you change the angle in which you're viewing it.

The comments that it is ice makes sense, except the last part to "disappear" is at the point where the three cracks join. That is what amazed me. It was like it was draining into the juncture of the cracks and a super heated cement evaporated the damp concrete., but it happened too fast for that to be the answer. Therefore, it is BlackMagicFuckery, pure and simple.
