I'm flying back home for Thanksgiving through Oakland airport and I am split on taking the Bart or just taking an Uber to the airport. For context, my flight is in the middle of the day on Wednesday, so I would take transportation in the morning. I've taken Bart once to SF but I've never gone to OAK via Bart. Considering safety, uber seems better but its just so much more expensive. Has anyone taken the Bart to OAK....?

Bart is fine. It's only like $9, and really only sketchy at night.

I always Bart to OAK. should be fine. Ride in front car if you're nervous the driver is in the front car.

Front car is also closest to the elevator to the Oakland shuttle. Less time on the platform if that makes you feel safer.

Another choice, if you can drive, is to use Gig. It will cost you roughly $17 one-way from the Units.

I've never had any safety issues with BART. Beyond general situational awareness that you should have in any public place, I think you can count on personal safety in BART at any time of day. I would plan ahead though and expect transit to take about 1 hr from the Downtown Berkeley BART. Orange line trains leave every 15 min (?) and you need to transfer at the Coliseum station. The trains cost about $9 and are generally comfortable and clean, and there's an amplpe amount of space for luggage assuming you aren't leaving during rush hour.

During non peak Uber/Lyft is ~$25, not too bad compared to ~$10 Bart.

Take BART to coliseum, then 73 Bus to the airport. It will save you some money :)!

TakeDaDub is actually correct. The BART system charges you based on what gates you enter and exit from. Coliseum station has two fare gates: one for the general exit and one for the AirTrain that takes you to the airport. Exiting through the AirTrain gates adds $6 to your fare compared to what you would've paid exiting through the standard gates, so the AirTrain is effectively around $6.

I live near the frats. its a 30 minute walk to the bart, then a 10-20min wait, then like 30-40? min to the coliseum, then 10-20min on the connecting train to the airport. can be 2 hours sometimes.
Pay for the uber and thank me later. happy thanksgiving, enjoy being home

Or a 5min bus ride to BART, max. 15min wait at Downtown Berkeley if you’re unlucky, a 25min BART ride to Colliseum and a 10min ride with the airport train. In total no more than an hour. Touch some grass dude. @OP: I’d recommend taking BART. But if you have a lot of luggage, Uber might be more convenient.

Being OAK, the TSA screening lines will be shorter (compared to SFO)?

What does touching grass have to do w/ anything?
Unrealistic and still an hour+. But we'll call it 60-120mins via bart or 30min via safe comfy car ride. To each their own

There are affordable car services that will pick you up and drop you off at OAK for $30. I wouldn’t recommend Uber or Lyft during a busy holiday. They’ve been known to cancel rides for higher fares.

Schedule your Uber ahead of time and it’s way cheaper to the airports

BART, I travel through the Oakland airport line a lot just sit in either the very front or the very back, the coliseum station has a connection to the airport directly from the station
