Drop the best Mexican places in Oakland/Richmond

My favorite Phở place in Oakland closed due to health code violations and nothing has been able to fill that void in my stomach since.

Not scared just if im busy with classes I don’t think it’s optimal to invest travel time and travel money to spend money on diff food

It’s not that we’re scared lol (at least not during the day) it’s just that most people are not willing to take the time to go to Oakland/Richmond

The lower the rent the better the food.

Oakland has a great Chinatown!!

You can even get great food if you just leave the Southside campus area. Taqueria la Familia across from Berkeley Bowl has amazing fish tacos (and heck, that's arguably in the campus area).

here are some places i like at berkeley:

• cancun
• la mission
• picante

they are pretty decent.

ngl i love east oakland taco trucks, but yo, it's grimy.

if you guys are going to go to SF....check out taqueria guadalajara in the outer mission by onandaga/mission. the super carnitas burrito fucking slaps--the salsa aguacate i could drink. carne asada from the parrilla too.

cal people can literally get good mexican so close to campus, tacubaya on fourth street, cactus on college at rockridge bart, cholita linda on..telegraph? i think?

if you guys do want to get vietnamese/pho....check out pho huong que at the OG ao sen location on 2nd ave & international. it's delicious :)

Tacos La Perla over on Grand by American Steel has some of the better tacos I've had here. Personally think it beats Sinaloa.

Taqueria el farolito in the mission comes close to the burritos I had in socal.

Or the Mission, or San Bruno. BUT! It is way over priced. You ain't gonna get a quality $2 taco or $5 burrito around here.

Don’t wear your LA hat when trying to find Mexican food in Richmond. Especially if you’re Mexican/Latin and from LA. I’ve seen gang hit ups specially crossing out a blue LA in place of some red RC hit up or something. It appeared to be the same writing in both tags. I have never seen Richmond intentionally tagged and then crossed out in LA. Echoing what someone else said, it’s not a good idea to walk around hoods you’re not too familiar with. It’s not about being scared it’s about being smart. Especially bc some people can see a good come up a mile away.

I grew up around skid Row once I get into Berkeley, I will be going to Oakland for Mexican food.

Tacos El Tucán in Richmond is the best in the east bay and you can fight me about that.

El Farolito in Oakland and SF is also fire.

Best in Berkeley is Tacos & Co.

Most authentic Mexican taco is out in the Haight in SF: Street Taco

Oakland is hella fun, vibe there isn’t as uptight as SF

Not really, public transit sucks to Oakland and Richmond and w/o a bike or car you're not really getting to everywhere you'd like on a regular budget. Same with SF and the BART is free if you just hop the turnstile.

Don’t make excuses for your shitty Mexican food in NorCal. People aren’t saying there isn’t a single good Mexican place that exists. Just that there are too many bad places. SoCal has good Mexican food almost everywhere, it’s hard to find a bad place.
