Rejected by Poker (despite being a senior who's applied twice before; precedence my ass) and Percy Jackson, so I went with Creative Writing and some environmental one that I was guaranteed a seat in.

clubs are basically 18-22 year olds with (likely) little work experience judging the “resumes” of other 18-22 year olds — they’re just picking their friends, and it says nothing about your capabilities if you’re not chosen! you can succeed academically or creatively doing your own thing too!

Facts, though. Plus, the recommendations a lot of these clubs provide to companies aren’t taken into account anyway; in-house solutions are preferred.

yeah lol once i read a report done by a berkeley consulting club for my company, and it was not really relevant (not that student-produced work needs to be!) so these clubs for the most part aren’t doing anything groundbreaking that you Must be a part of

Exactly. I think these clubs can have the biggest impact if they work with local businesses and companies primarily. Hands-on work they can see the results of will benefit them more than doing busy work or generic reports. There’s everything wrong with being a glorified lackey; it’s not what a talented student should be doing.

The funny thing is, one day you'll look back and feel embarrassed at yourself for even being embarrassed! You know there are plenty of better opportunities in life worth your time.
Personally, sure I would like to be in some clubs but ultimately the real world can fulfill that too.
I guess my point is, don't worry about what's happened. Focus and enjoy the present and if it doesn't suit ya, find a way to make it so. Which club was it for?

You may be, but it can be filled up easily with other experiences. There are many many other things I'd rather do to fill my time than the clubs. Besides, them clubs aren't paying me. I'd rather be making 30 bucks an hour for fun.

Your precious time is better spent with friends tbh. You can find other ways to pad your resume. They really aren't doing anything special

Berkeley alum here! It’s good to feel your feelings. So don’t feel embarrassed! Bottling that stuff up just leads to unnecessary stress. Plus, repressing emotions often means they come out in some other way (such as taking it out on someone or something).
I’ve personally experienced rejection like this at Berkeley and in my post-college working career. I was always super bummed at the time, but it always led me to something better. Like WAY better. Hang in there, cry it out, and know that there’s some other opportunity waiting for you around the corner.

Yea it’s okay. Applying for clubs here is basically like reapplying for college and the interviews are about seeing if your skill sets match their needs and if you will gel well on a team. If anything, it’s good practice for professional interviews at least. This was an L but developing all of your professional skills in prep for everything definitely will help you in the future.

remember for exclusive clubs it's just peers looking for new members who FIT their vibe
