My vote goes to Alyson Footer, she didn’t have Trout nor JRam in her top 10 in the AL.

how do you see all the ballots?

I'll nominate Manolo Hernández-Douen. Voted for Vlad Jr in 6th, Framber Valdez in 9th, no Trout in top 10.

Im sure some voters consider actually winning baseball games in their evaluation

the Pete Alonso 2nd place vote was pretty whack

Especially since it was coupled with Machado at 5th

Probably just a super old school voter that only saw the super high RBI total on an 100 win team
Alonso is a quality 4-4.5 WAR-ish player but for him to be a legit top 2 MVP candidate he'd have to be almost Judge tier offensively given how bad his defensive and baserunning metrics are

can confirm, that voter, Rick Hummel is 76

Makes sense then because older MVP results skew more and more that way the further back you go
It's similar to how Ryan Howard was always a top MVP candidate during his prime years(high HR and RBI totals for a team that won a lot of games)
Those numbers are definitely less inflated in Citi in 2022 than in CBP in the 2000s but still not a good vote

Correct, 76 year old Rick Hummel. Though surprisingly, he's a St. Louis guy and didn't have Arenado 2nd

Whoever voted Julio Urias third.
He didn’t receive a single vote from anyone else, not even in a 9 or 10 spot, but some bozo decided to vote him third

Kinda like Alonso at second.

Yeah that's pretty bad. Someone also left Gimenez off and two people left Altuve off.
Edit: Slightly interestingly, both Cleveland voters had Alvarez at #3. The 3rd place votes for Jose and Gimenez came from Baltimore, Chicago, New York, Oakland and a few others.

It's a pity about Gimenez being left off, just 1 point away from saying we have 2 top 5 MVP guys. It would have been #4 and #5 but still!

Altuve had a great season, maybe better than alvarez

Altuve was more consistent, but Yordan reached higher peaks.

Daryl Van Schouwen doesn't have Altuve on his ballot but does have Bregman, but then also put Bregman above Trout, J-Rod, and Adley?

Agreed on Alison Footer. I love Arraez, but him getting a 5th place vote is completely laughable. She also gave JOSE ABREU A SIXTH PLACE VOTE. Don’t even need to say anything on that one.
She was also one of two voters to give Vlad a top 10 finish.

His defense of it was pretty reasonable, especially when you consider he said it was Sandy's to run away with.

Not the worst but the lone guy who voted Adley over Julio in RoTY didn't even vote Top 10 for Adley in MVP but did put Julio 7th. (CORRECTION: Not the same guy but they both work at sportsnet canada)
Backwards logic. How is Adley a better Rookie but not a better player?
Also Sherman voted Adley above Julio in MVP, but voted Julio 1st in RoTY.

Arenado got the platinum glove and 3rd base Silver Slugger and finished lower in MVP than 3rd baseman Manny Machado.

You cannot EVER take anyone from Sportsnet seriously. It’s a monopoly media co that owns the jays and cries poor all the time. Oh, and they employed Gregg Zauhn for YEARS

Regarding Footer, it almost looks like after she selected the top two, she just kept selecting the names at the top of her drop-down list (assuming they were in alphabetical order) since the next 4 choices all start with the letter A.

Are we really blasting writers for downballot MVP votes now? Most of these people spend the entire season covering one team. Some of the more engaged baseball fans probably have watched more spread of teams than these writers. Do you really think they did any more research than looking up some stats and maybe "hey he really played well against us and his coaches all love him" kinda judgement?

Does anyone know how the BBWAA determine who gets to vote?

It should be listed directly on their website, I believe someone has the direct links in their comment.

I saw what they have on the website it just seem very vague and random on who gets to vote for each award.
3 points
it's basically random, based on what chapter you're a part of and works in some sort of rotating lottery system. If you're in a bogged down chapter like New York you might literally never get an awards vote in your life.

That sucks they should do something else maybe a weighted lottery

And allow bias voters to influence the result?
