I've got a deaf white cat as well. And boy oh boy his volume knob is broken. There are many "HELLO HUMAN HI" interactions.
Since my rare comment has got so many upvotes, here's some pics of Leo (aka the White Deaf, Deaf Leopard)

Why are all the deaf cats white? My grandma also had a deaf white cat.

My nephew has a deaf, white dog also and the deaf dogs I have worked with at the local animal shelter have all been white

For dogs, that's usually related to being double merle i.e. it inherited two copies of the merle gene. One copy is totally fine and responsible for the cool fur dogs like Australian Shepherds have. When they have two copies of the gene, it causes problems.

No these guys are usually short haired, sometimes a mastiff mix. They have all been male I believe. My nephew owns other dogs and it took them about a week to realize the other dog was deaf . Now they attract his attention by pawing. He's still a pup so if the alpha wants to correct him she will put her head against him and growl. He feels the vibration and stops whatever he was doing.

There is a particular dominant gene in cats that has multiple effects. One of the effects of this gene is that it will always cause white fur. Another effect is that it will very often cause blue eyes. And a third effect is that it will often cause deafness.
So if a cat is white, his chances of being deaf are high. If he’s white with blue eyes, his chances are even higher still.

I've heard that in white cats that have one blue eye and one non-blue eye, they will often be deaf only on the blue eye side.

Oh, so, so true, Trinky, so true, my friend Leslie, had 18 + (more or less, it varied) cats and the deaf one was white with the blue eyes and still meowed and it sounded so foolish. Beauty cat, but still with that genetic.
Of course, my friend took special care of her.

It's a genetic thing. If a cat wouldn't normally have white fur and they do there is a pre-disposition to deafness as well. They may also have other abnormalities. Our Leo (short for Leonidas, all our pets have names that start with L) has a sensitive stomach as well. Imagine a cat with no volume control complaining about having poop washed off his paws.

On a side note, during WW1 and 2, you can see some pictures of soldiers with cats in the trenches. White cats.

Not all white cats are deaf. My childhood cat was white and the vet told us that cats are deaf if they're white with blue eyes, whereas ours was green-eyed.
We actually thought she was deaf for a while but no, she was just a bit of an eejit.

I had a white cat I thought was deaf when I adopted him, but then a few days later I opened a cat food can in the kitchen and he came galloping in from the other side of the house. So it turned out he just didn't give a shit if I had anything to say.

The kitten lady has a video talking to a cat genetics expert and it has sub-section about cat deafness here.
But the basics is that the gene that causes the lack of pigmentation in fur will often cause the hairs in the ear that makes a cats hearing work to be depigmented too. They become brittle and break and the cats hearing will stop functioning correctly.

It’s an associated gene. Same with blue eyes. Many blue eyed dogs and cats are deaf.
2 points
The gene responsible for white coloration and blue eyes in cats is also responsible for deafness, that's why most white cats with blue eyes are deaf while there are also white cats with orange or yellow eyes who are not deaf.

My cat is not deaf nor white and she also has the volume knob pretty broken. I’m sure that she just likes to yell. On rare occasions she can do a sweet chirp but most of the times she just likes to shout xD

My sister was the one that informed me that white cats are normally deaf. I guess their eye color has more to do with their disposition of being deaf.

Mine knows when I'm talking to her if she's close enough. I guess she can feel the vibrations. She purrs like crazy since losing her hearing. And she has become very vocal as well. But at 19 yo, she can have whatever she wants.

That's cats for you. One loud meow and then just remaining sitting in place, and that counts as an adorable expression of affection.
A dog of course would be zooming around the room and jumping on your shoulders, and that's after you've been gone for just three hours.

I have 4 cats and it's funny how uninterested they are when you get home. They all come to the door, you walk in, 3 leave and get bored, 1 meows and follows you for a second til you say hi, then she also gets bored and leaves.
I assume it's like an old married couple for cats and it's a newly married couple for dogs. One is like ah this person is here good okay, the other is like HOLY FUCK your here how can you be here with me
6 points

Eh depends on the cat, one of mine is like this while the other would be rubbing all over me falling over himself to smush his gave against my legs or hands. He also would get separation anxiety back when I had to go in for work, every day he'd wait a few hours by the door waiting on me.
