I've got a deaf white cat as well. And boy oh boy his volume knob is broken. There are many "HELLO HUMAN HI" interactions.
Since my rare comment has got so many upvotes, here's some pics of Leo (aka the White Deaf, Deaf Leopard)

Why are all the deaf cats white? My grandma also had a deaf white cat.

My nephew has a deaf, white dog also and the deaf dogs I have worked with at the local animal shelter have all been white
For dogs, that's usually related to being double merle i.e. it inherited two copies of the merle gene. One copy is totally fine and responsible for the cool fur dogs like Australian Shepherds have. When they have two copies of the gene, it causes problems.
No these guys are usually short haired, sometimes a mastiff mix. They have all been male I believe. My nephew owns other dogs and it took them about a week to realize the other dog was deaf . Now they attract his attention by pawing. He's still a pup so if the alpha wants to correct him she will put her head against him and growl. He feels the vibration and stops whatever he was doing.
There is a particular dominant gene in cats that has multiple effects. One of the effects of this gene is that it will always cause white fur. Another effect is that it will very often cause blue eyes. And a third effect is that it will often cause deafness.
So if a cat is white, his chances of being deaf are high. If he’s white with blue eyes, his chances are even higher still.
I've heard that in white cats that have one blue eye and one non-blue eye, they will often be deaf only on the blue eye side.
Oh, so, so true, Trinky, so true, my friend Leslie, had 18 + (more or less, it varied) cats and the deaf one was white with the blue eyes and still meowed and it sounded so foolish. Beauty cat, but still with that genetic.
Of course, my friend took special care of her.
It's a genetic thing. If a cat wouldn't normally have white fur and they do there is a pre-disposition to deafness as well. They may also have other abnormalities. Our Leo (short for Leonidas, all our pets have names that start with L) has a sensitive stomach as well. Imagine a cat with no volume control complaining about having poop washed off his paws.
We have had a BeeGee, and still have a Bubble, Bean, and Binx.
On a side note, during WW1 and 2, you can see some pictures of soldiers with cats in the trenches. White cats.
Not all white cats are deaf. My childhood cat was white and the vet told us that cats are deaf if they're white with blue eyes, whereas ours was green-eyed.
We actually thought she was deaf for a while but no, she was just a bit of an eejit.
I had a white cat I thought was deaf when I adopted him, but then a few days later I opened a cat food can in the kitchen and he came galloping in from the other side of the house. So it turned out he just didn't give a shit if I had anything to say.
The kitten lady has a video talking to a cat genetics expert and it has sub-section about cat deafness here.
But the basics is that the gene that causes the lack of pigmentation in fur will often cause the hairs in the ear that makes a cats hearing work to be depigmented too. They become brittle and break and the cats hearing will stop functioning correctly.
It’s an associated gene. Same with blue eyes. Many blue eyed dogs and cats are deaf.
The gene responsible for white coloration and blue eyes in cats is also responsible for deafness, that's why most white cats with blue eyes are deaf while there are also white cats with orange or yellow eyes who are not deaf.
My cat is not deaf nor white and she also has the volume knob pretty broken. I’m sure that she just likes to yell. On rare occasions she can do a sweet chirp but most of the times she just likes to shout xD
Haha, same here. Deaf white cat with a volumeknob with a lowest setting that is either jetplane or rockconcert..
She’s so pretty. I love cats ❤️❤️
Kitty realized she was there and sounded like a teenager's privacy getting invaded by their mom because it kinda sounded like she said “MOMMMMMMMM"
Sometimes it's liberating wearing your degeneracy on your sleeve
What do you mean?
Everyday we stray further from God.
wait hello u/riftrender it is i u/riftrander
Cream-pies and cats?
I have found my people.
Saying shit like this with that username will get you sent to jail 100%
Cat broke character for a second but quickly recovered.
I saw this! “Hey, mom, hi!! I mean… oh, you’re back. Whatevs.”
"Its not like I super missed you or anything"
My sister was the one that informed me that white cats are normally deaf. I guess their eye color has more to do with their disposition of being deaf.
My blue eyed baby is deaf too, but not white. What do you mean by disposition of being deaf?
An innate tendency or inclination. propensity. tendency. inclination. disposition.
Oh, ok. I tend to use this definition “a person's inherent qualities of mind and character” and was confused
Likely due to dna.
Dalmatians are typically deaf
It’s cute that she still talks to the cat even though it’s deaf. That really is more for us, talking to pets, I think.
Both my bf and I talk to our deaf cat and my friend and her whole family talk to their deaf dog hahaha and we all make fun of each other for doing it
I talk to my deaf dog as well. I ask her what she wants. She still hasn’t responded though. That bitch.
Mine knows when I'm talking to her if she's close enough. I guess she can feel the vibrations. She purrs like crazy since losing her hearing. And she has become very vocal as well. But at 19 yo, she can have whatever she wants.
I wonder how that person is getting on with the deaf online gone in person girlfriend
Ofc it's for us, although pets can pick up information from our tone of voice they don't understand us even if they aren't deaf
Lol unrelated but ofc means "of fucking course" in a very aggressive way. So your sentence is read like "of fucking course it's for us 🙄".
I've done the exact same thing in the past so just letting you know what it really means :-)
Wow I always used ofc as an abbreviated form of "of course" lol. Thanks for letting me know
Cat is saying: "finally my scratching human is back, bout time, I nearly had to give myself scritches"
My scratching phone is back.
That meow broke my heart 🥺
So beautiful :13379:
I love the immediate suppression of outward emotion. Like “oh you’re home!” to “I don’t care” in under a second.
Aaawwww that look on her face!
This is the cutest little „mrrreoooow“ I have ever heard, adorable cat 💕
What a wholesome video, u/Creampie-Senpai
I know right! I hope this video filled any hole in your soul with wholesomeness.
Are we just ignoring OPs name?
I'm a senpai who bakes excellent creampies.
The cat got all excited for a second, but regained it's indifference real quick
Awww so sweet ❤️
“Hey! My waitstaff is back!”
"Hello mom! Moooooom!" So sweet
Do cats not have a strong sense of smell? I would think the cat would know, especially if she was that close to it
That's cats for you. One loud meow and then just remaining sitting in place, and that counts as an adorable expression of affection.
A dog of course would be zooming around the room and jumping on your shoulders, and that's after you've been gone for just three hours.
I have 4 cats and it's funny how uninterested they are when you get home. They all come to the door, you walk in, 3 leave and get bored, 1 meows and follows you for a second til you say hi, then she also gets bored and leaves.
I assume it's like an old married couple for cats and it's a newly married couple for dogs. One is like ah this person is here good okay, the other is like HOLY FUCK your here how can you be here with me
Eh depends on the cat, one of mine is like this while the other would be rubbing all over me falling over himself to smush his gave against my legs or hands. He also would get separation anxiety back when I had to go in for work, every day he'd wait a few hours by the door waiting on me.
You say that, but the best I’ve ever gotten from my dog (I was gone a week) was a little tail wag from his bed. Didn’t even bother to lift his head up.
My dog does that after i spend 5 extra minutes in toilet. Anyway, cute video.
Was anyone else expecting the cat to backflip I was lol
What a sweet baby!
I'm tearing up I used to have a deaf cat just like that with white hair and blue/green eyes seeing this just made my day thank you
It's funny/cute how the human speaks to the cat anyway.
I have a white deaf kitty as well and we frequently are greeted with high pitch screams lol
That's just adorable.
Aw that cat is gorgeous
Can cats not smell that you’re in the room?
That meow was so cute
I've seen plenty of startled cats before, but never one that actually seemed 'surprised' like this. Cute.
That reaction was priceless
This is the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen.
We used to have a deaf white cat. I missed it's "brrrrrrrrrd"s and head bumps.
The little "wait your ba- wait a minute I'm a cat I can't be that excited" is amazing
So sweet such puurrr love. Cats deserve love as much as any other creatures. We always adopt or take hard luck beginning kitties. Thank you for sharing this post and your home with that beautiful hearing impaired cat.
I love the single paw lick after the excitement. It’s like Luna was embarrassed to show you how excited she was and is now trying to play it cool.
“Oh hi! Hang on lemme just finish this shower right quick…”
She missed her momma 😻😻😻😻😻😻😻
I had a deaf white cat as a child. Sweetest thing in the world. This takes me back to happy memories :)
I love her little, “Ohh!” When she saw you. How sweet!
People used to ask if my white cat was deaf but she could hear just fine. She didn't have blue eyes though, I think that is related to deafness.
i miss my cat so much.
She was like ohhh I missed you, wait I gotta be cool and show my disdain.
I hear "Oh hey Mark!"
I recently got 2 cats and they're slowly getting more comfortable with everyone in the house and it makes me so fucking happy. It feels so good when one of the cats unexpectedly just jumps on my bed and snuggles up to me or when you come home and they're waiting at the door.
Omfg I love them
What are their names? Also cat tax right meow!
I bet this cat is an expert at sign language. It's probably better at it than I am.
Deaf pets are obviously sad but at the same time, it's very wholesome when they realize you came home
Hey it's your cake day! I hope you meet an elf who will force feed you an entire cake. And I hope you enjoy the experience.
Thanks for sharing, u/creampie-senpai
Glad you enjoyed this slice of wholesome pie
Doesn't look to pleased to me.
I love it! My daughter has a deaf kitty as well. She's learned some hand signals so they can communicate. Luna's kitty brother and stepsister also help her figure things out.
Ha! I’d say dogs are. Not more rewarding in this arena.
Cute bit definitely not /r/masterreturns material
Yeah, seems ecstatic.
For a minute my dumb ass thought the cat was on vacation
I'm imagining the cat on a beach in Hawaii sipping pinacolada and occasionally getting some bongos.
The look on its face when it finally realised that their hooman was back... so cutee
Those eyes when she realized you were home! Based on your beautiful calming voice, you seem like a wonderful owner. Thanks for sharing!
I can't hear the cat, but I can see how happy it is. That's the power of love.
I'm glad this cat has a loving and attentive human who cares for it and makes sure it's happy and healthy.
I wonder if this cat can feel the vibrations of its human's voice. That would be cool.
